Historical Traveller Reviews of Novotel Bristol Centre Hotel
What a greta place to stay !
What a great find this hotel was. We had booked a family room for two nights. The room was very clean and and nicely decorated. The main bed was super - loads of room. The childrens beds were the 'pull down' type but very clean and comfortable. The bathroom - I'm usually unlucky with hotel bathrooms being dirty, shabby etc, but this one was great, you can even here the movie that my husband was watching whilst in the bath thanks to the piped-through sound. The parking was secure and easily accesible. The staff were very friendly. Now the best bit - BREAKFAST, wow it kept up going until the evening with a choice of everything possible and again very friendly staff. Would highly recomned this hotel.
Excellent hotel, great staff
We arrived relativly late in the evening with two small kids. The underground carpark was easy to use and the cot and fold out bed had been set up for us. The room was excellent and the staff were great. There was a discount on the breakfast if you paid for it the night before £12 was steep but we got it for £8 by pre-paying at the desk.
I would definitly go back to this hotel. Top class.
Loved this hotel
This is a very clean and comfortable hotel and it is very centrally located. The staff were very friendly and polite, both in the Reception area and in the bar/restaurant. The bedroom was quite large with a good sized bathroom. The breakfast was extra but well worth the money- a buffet complete with full English as well as continental breakfasts. The staff at the breakfast were courteous and friendly. We had dinner in the bar one evening and the standard was excellent. This hotel is very close to the station and about a 5 minute walk from the shopping areas. I would definitely go back to this hotel.
I went to Bristol for a shopping weekend with my boyfriend and paid a low rate for this hotel online, so I wasn't expecting much from it. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The room was very large and tastefully decorated and the staff were friendly. The best thing about the hotel was the breakfast buffet, which included everything you could ask for, and sustained us until dinner-time! The hotel is in easy walking distance from the centre of Bristol, and the free parking was a bonus (although the parking spaces were very small!) The speaker in the bathroom was slightly odd, but I would definitely recommend Novotel.

Paid £89 for my husband and I overnight with breakfast, reception staff could do with a smile to greet you! free parking with lifts straight to reception. Rooms spacious clean and modern, including bathroom, shower could do with more pressure, thats the only down side! tea and coffee maker great for the mornings, after the night before! Very comfortable beds but the pillows are square, take your own if you want comfort. Certainly reccommend this hotel.
We went to the Aqua bar for a meal with friends Harbourside very nice and upbeat. Then on to Oceanos Club, well worth the visit.
Good hotel with even better service
The Novotel is a decent refurbished hotel. I've stayed a few times and they have a wide variety of room styles and in particular bathroom styles. The bar and restaurant are comfortable and drinks prices are reasonable for a hotel. But mini-bar prices are silly (even sillier than they usually are elsewhere). The breakfast choice is limited but they do a good variety of food in the evening at reasonable prices. Where the Novotel excels is with its efficient and friendly service.

Just back from a short stay at the Bristol Novotel. This is a great choice for Bristol City Centre. We got a great deal: room only for £55. The check in was quick and efficient. The rooms were a good size with contemporary decor, slightly bland maybe but very clean. The bathroom was great with a large shower. The bed was very comfortable and we used the sofa bed as the second bed. It's surprisingly comfortable and shouldn't pose a difficulty if you want a twin. It's the best sofa bed I've seen in a hotel. The room view was a bit uninspiring and we did hear ambulances as mentioned in an earlier review. They didn't bother us too much. We didn't try the restaurant for dinner or breakfast. The only fault I could find was the smell of smoke in the room when we entered. It was classified as a non smoking room and it was very unpleasant. We opened the windows to alleviate it but it did linger.
Otherwise this is a great hotel at a very reasonable rate. I 'll use it again next time I 'm in Bristol
Good Standard of Hotel

My husband and I stayed at this hotel on a Friday and Saturday night in December, Christmas party season. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay with very few complaints. I was slightly worried when I realised that there would be Christmas parties down stairs, however, I was pleasantly surprised when I couldn't hear any noise and had 2 very comfortable and undisturbed night's sleep. The rooms are well designed and of a high standard, the decor is slightly bland. We were impressed with the breakfasts as not only did they offer the usual fried breakfast, they had an array of yogurt drinks, fruit, meats and cheese something for everyone. The hotel is in a great location for exploring the very impressive city of Bristol. The only small complaints we had were that when we arrived back at the hotel at 12.30am and parked in the car park nobody was around to let us through the security system into the hotel and we had to walk up the ramps. Also, we arrived for breakfast at peak time on the Sunday morning and the hot food items were not being replaced quickly enough. These small points did not spoil an overall excellent stay.
Modern and clean
This is the second time we have stayed here.
Lovely modern rooms, excellent value if you book well in advance.
Masses of food for breakfast, but tea on cold side.
Mini bar very expensive, but I would never use it anyway, so not an issue. Minibar fridge useful for storing our milk and drinks.
There was also a safe.
Handy for train station and not too far to walk into town.
Very comfortable hotel
I stayed in the Novotel for 4 separate weeks, staying in a different room for each week. All rooms were the same, very comfortable and very well fitted out; my only criticism was the fact that the décor was mostly white/very pale neutral colours. There were plenty of towels, toiletries, tea, coffee etc. The queen size bed was generous albeit it a little firm (ok for me, but I can imagine some not liking it). The room was fully air-conditioned which was essential because if you opened a window it was quite noisy from traffic and a large building site opposite. A nice point was that the minibar was more like a convenience fridge as there was no problem in being able to store your own stuff in it, unlike some hotels where the contents are electronically tagged and as soon as even touch something, you are automatically charged. The drinks and chocolate bars available were, as is usual for minibars, extortionately expensive. The restaurant and room service menus were quite reasonably priced (pasta meals started at about £7.00). There is ample free and secure underground parking which is a real advantage for central Bristol. The city centre and harbour side are only about 10 minutes walk. The only thing that really annoyed me was that lift because it always stopped at reception which was a pain if you were going down to the car park and back to your room. Breakfast was OK, but the staff did not seem to realise that you need boiling water to make a decent cup of tea and not luke warm water that had sat around in a pot for 20 minutes. The toast provided was also normally cold and not toasted enough (there was a self service toaster, but its design was very poor and quite often the toast fell out the back and on the floor! However, overall I liked the Novotel and would stay again.
Top Local Tips for Bristol
The shopping in Bristol is great but the town is very undulating...so lots of walking up and down hills..also the traffic can get extremely congested throughout the day. Great servise in Wagamama's ..unlike the service in Covent Garden !
Cheap and great - Greek restaurant on Gloucester Road / expensive and great - Hotel du Vin
