Historical Traveller Reviews of Seattle Hotel

Great place to stay as long as you get a sea view!

from LMel
Agree with a lot of what has been said on other reviews. We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Our room was lovely; bed very comfortable, (we had a king size - seaview), great bathroom with robes, nice toiletries etc. The bento boxes in bed for breakfast were a great idea and we also had a lovely meal in the evening in the restaurant attached to the hotel. We left feeling really relaxed and having had a great time.

At the end of the day it does depend on what you are looking for - This is a fantastic hotel IF you like a chilled out environment where the staff leave you to it (although at the same time our one request in relation to missing coffee/tea was dealt with immediately), are willing to pay the extra for a sea view (afterall what else would you go to Brighton for - and the back rooms really do have a great view of Asda!) Also its worth pushing the boat out - no pun intended - for the a king size room too as these are more spacious and having our own small balcony was really nice. Also you need to not necessarily be bothered about being in central Brighton since it is 2 miles away.

But if you like being a bit out of the centre of Brighton, would enjoy having a nice stroll along marina walkway, want a good selection of bars and restaurants on your doorstep, its a really stylish, comforatable and chilled out hotel to choose for a short break.

Mostly great...

This hotel is just outside the centre of town, at the marina. There are a few 'outlet' type shops and a number of chain eateries. The view of the actual marina is nice.

There's a free multi-storey car park on the complex and you can get a bus into town.

Rooms are modern and the bathrooms felt very clean and new (if a bit cramped when sitting on the loo!).

The lounge where you can get snacks and read the papers is lovely and the attached seafood restaurant is excellent. The bento box breakfast in bed is fine but expensive.

Our only gripe was that when we did have a problem with something in the room, no-one seemed that bothered. On checking out when they asked if everything had been alright, they weren't actually listening to our answer. Being British we didn't push it. But that's the bit we now remember.

A good base for visiting Brighton

Stylish new hotel on the boardwalk at the Marina, 2 kilometres from the centre of Brighton. With free parking and a shuttle bus into town, this is a good base for visiting Brighton. The marina area itself is lively at weekends and on summer evenings with a good selection of bars and eating places. There are some clothes shops and an Asda supermarket nearby for essential supplies.
Rooms are well equipped if small with no wardrobe, just a hanging rail for clothes. In contrast, public rooms are spacious and stylishly furnished. The restaurant is noisy – woodblock floors – and tables are small but dishes are tolerably priced and attractively presented. Staff are attentive and friendly though you may not like their casual clothes.

A real Christmas treat

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our first Christmas away from home and we were not disappointed. We arrived Christmas Eve in the pouring rain to a real walm welcome. The staff were full of Christmas cheer and it was a real pleasure to spend Christmas in such wonderful surroundings. The room had a fantasic view and the Christmas lunch was something else. We were served by the MD and General Manager of the hotel who were not too proud to muck in! The wine flowed and the Champayne reception was an unexpected bonus. We could not fault the hotel or its staff and our only wish was that Christmas night could have been served with some entertainment to round off the weekend. Nevertheless we intend to return next year to celebrate New Year in style.

A happy new year to all the staff and our thanks again for making it home from home without the washing up!!!

What are these people talking about. My wife and our baby boy stayed at this hotel and I have subsequently stayed on business. I Like nice hotels and I like excellent food. I found the view over the harbour georgeous, the staff attentive and the food fresh and well prepared.
I have stayed in many hotels for business and pleasure around the UK, mostly 4 or 5 star and I would definitely recommend the Seattle to anyone...and do eat in the friendly restaruant.

My partner and I stayed at the Seattle for just one Sunday night as we were feeling frivoulous and fancied watching the stormy waves crash over the harbour wall whilst sipping cocktails! The hotel is certainly different to the anonymous hotels that line most streets in Brighton, it's certainly no Hilton or Quality Hotel! We stayed in a sea view king bedroom, on the top floor, with its own balcony. I certainly would recommend paying the extra for the sea view as no-one would want to stay at the marina and have to look out at asda for the whole of their stay! I found the staff friendly and helpful and any request was met with a warm professional response. Room service took a little longer than it should have done but I wasn't charged for the food as a result. True, this hotel is not in the middle of Brighton and, yes, the marina is a bit of an eyesore, however there is no other hotel like this in town and it's therefore certainly worth overlooking these negatives. Make sure you visit the Black & White bar on the top floor with its relaxed and chilled atmosphere, almost like going to a friends house for drinks. Recommended!

Super-king room or bust

from A TripAdvisor Member
The simple fact is this: if you don't get a top floor room with its own balcony, then you will be disappointed. These are the ones shown on the hotel website. I booked a kingsize room initially, and the room was on the second floor. It had 1 narrow french door opening on to a SHARED balcony with 5 or 6 other rooms. You could just about see the sea over the harbour wall from here. For the money, this room had insufficient light, and NO sea view from the bed.

I complained and we were upgraded for free to a super king on the top floor, which was beautiful, with large double-doors onto its own balcony and a lovely view of the sea, just as in the website photo.

Otherwise, the hotel is decorated in a modern, fresh and stylish fashion, with an inevitable nautical theme. We liked it a lot, but this will of course depend on your taste. And possibly age!

The main Brighton pier is a pleasant 35 minute walk along the sea front.

Great time was had by all.

I recently stayed at the Alias Seattle in Brighton with my family for my parents surprise 60th birthday party. Having booked it, I then read some poor reviews so was quite anxious upon arrival. Our whole experience was great. The staff were friendly and personable. The rooms were lovely and the atmosphere relaxed. The marina was buzzing and the 45 minute walk into the city centre refreshing. If you have a modern open mind, you'll love its contemporary style and laid back atmosphere, whilst still maintaining great service. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. After reading so much negative feedback I thought it only right to comment positively.

– nearer its namesake than the town centre

from A TripAdvisor Member
We recently spent a day in Brighton and, having stayed at the Barcelona in Exeter, were hoping for similar from the Seattle. Both share a parent's idea of cool and the furnishings in reception look like the owner's wife has been given an open cheque to scour the boot sales of Britain. I recognise retro-chic when I see it and this ain't it.

The hotel is a good 45 minutes' walk from the town centre and the hotel's approached through a desolate part of town on foot and through a concrete overpass by car. The many and varied views from the hotel include an Asda, McDonalds, Beefeater and multiplex and a spacious concrete multi-storey car park.

Drinks in the bar are fairly expensive and the staff give the impression that they are 'resting' actors doing one a favour rather than serving. I agree that if a weekend in Brighton appeals, stay at the far superior Hotel Du Vin. If, however a weekend in Brent Cross By-Sea is your cup of tea, then go ahead and stay at the Seattle

Just a warning

It was a last minute decision to revisit the marina after 15 years and what a massive change - 14 new blocks of Barratts housing, Seattle Hotel, many bars and restaurants serving international food, Asda, Mcdonalds, a casino, multi-storey car park and lots of discount shops.
We booked a double seaview room (£290 for 2 nights including breakfast and £40 to spend in the hotel bars or restaurant) but were disappointed in that our room opened out onto a communal balcony (lots of cigarette ends lying around and the sun loungers needed cleaning). Hence we could not draw our curtains at all - surely a blind would have been a better idea. Also for anyone over 6 foot tall it was very uncomfortable to sit on the loo which was tucked into a corner and to put the bath plug in you needed to either get into the bath or be a gymnast to reach round the shower screen. It would have been nice to have had a gown and body lotion provided. Maybe it is still early days but the menus in the Black and White cocktail bar were dog-eared although the international choice of cocktails was impressive. I doubt if we will ever stay there again.
