Historical Traveller Reviews of Ramada Jarvis Brighton Hotel

Came for a rest went home shattered

from A TripAdvisor Member
We chose Ramda Hotel because it had a pool and was on offer from an internet company we had points with so it was FREE. The room we had was clearly meant as a disabled room so their was plenty of space but it was poorly decorated and well worn. When we first saw the room we were tempted to turn it down but then realised being at the back it would be quiet and as we had gone their for a rest that would be perfect, we couldent have been more wrong as in the room above were the only children in the Hotel at that time and their is clearly no soundproofing so their parents werent the only ones woken by them at six am. We were tempted to ask for a change for the second night but we didnt see them around so thought they had gone home, wrong again six o'clock start again the next morning. we went down to breakfast which was good but it seemed everyone in the room was our neighbours all having had the six am start.
We had a meal in the Hotel which was very nice but overpriced but the service was very good and the staff were pleasent. The Bar was nice and again Staff helpfull and pleasant I think in future we will choose newer Hotels in the hope they may be soundproofed

Give it a try!!

We have just returned from a lovely weekend in Brighton. The Ramada Jarvis is certainly not one of the best hotels we have stayed in but we considered it to be good value for money for a hotel with a pool on the seafront (we booked online). The whole hotel needs refurbishing but the location is good and the staff were very helpful - particularly the guy who sorted out a car park space for us when they were full up! Parking is a nightmare in Brighton so be prepared to walk and take some comfortable shoes. The breakfast was excellent and although the leisure facilites are old they are ok. Would we go there again? - perhaps when its had a facelift?

Fantastic hotel

My partner and i stayed at the hotel from Friday to Monday. We had a free upgrade to a wounderful Seaview room with balcony !
The leisure club could do with some updating but the pool, sauna and jacuzzi were all free so who complaining....

We ate in the restaurant for Breakfast and dinner and we were really happy with the choice of food, even though Brighton is full of restaurants...

The staff were really friendly and we will really make a return visit...

The only hurdle was the trouser press not working, we informed reception and within the hour we had anew one fitted !! well done guys..

Not as bad as others have made out!

Myself and my partner stayed for one night on 27/07/05. We stayed on the first floor and found the room to be large with a recently redecorated bathroom. The swimming pool was small and the changing rooms dirty but we had use of a spa, sauna and sunbed. Did not try the dinner but the breakfast served in the ballroom was good. The hotel is well placed with only a short walk along the sea front to the West Pier. Overall I would reccomend this hotel. It doesn't pretend to be the Ritz and if you can see past that I'm sure you will have a good stay.

Tatty

from Beardsh
Luckily we had good weather whilst we stayed at this hotel as otherwise we would have had to stay in the room longer than just to sleep.

The position of the hotel was good but weekend parking facilities pretty rubbish.

The room itself wasn't terrible, it was clean with a new bathroom but the decor was dated and furniture obviously used. It was cramped, the tv was on the table where the cases should've been kept and the furniture was badly laid out - it would've been better with a single bed in. The bedspread didn't match the rest of the room and was faded beyond recognition, had been stitched in several places and really I wouldn't have let my dog sleep in it so that spent most of the time on the floor. No noise was experienced though it was on the side of the hotel which was a residential one way street and therefore pretty quiet until the bin men arrive!!

The breakfast was poor and the 'ballroom' where we had to endure eating it was vile. One of the lifts stank and the communul corridors, stairs etc were terribly tatty and poorly furnished. We never used the pool facilities - I really didn't fancy.

We stayed on a 2-4-1 deal making a double room £75.00 per night B&B which frankly was a rip off. The remainder of our holiday had been significantly cheaper staying in both a caravan and travelodge where the stay was far more pleasant.

Never again! Completely put me off Brighton for life.

I wish I'd read these reviews first - Fawlty Towers is a great description.

One saving grace was the staff who were pleasant throughout despite most of them speaking very little English.

Never Again!

This hotel was shocking. We stayed there for our anniversary in July expecting something reasonable and were astonished by the standard of this hotel. We paid £92 for a 'box'. The entire room was 'shabby' to say the least, smelt awful and then to top it off when we arrived home later in the evening we had no hot water and were forced to change rooms at 1.00 a.m. The staff were not that apologetic. We were moved to a larger room (they obviously allocate the small rooms to you if you book a cheaper deal) but is was still not very impressive.

We will never stay there again....

t understand the negative reviews.

I was a bit concerned about staying in this hotel having read the negative comments posted by previous guests. However, my concern was misplaced.
OK, it isn't 5 star, and it is somewhat overpriced if you don't manage to get a deal, but the staff are friendly and professional. The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable if a bit small. The breakfast was exceptional but they need to learn how to make tea properly! As for noise, there was a Wedding Reception being held on the 2nd night of our stay, and we heard nothing at all.
I was not at all disappointed by this hotel and would stay there again. If you can, book on line or by phone well in advance to give yourself a good chance of getting a good deal on the price.

Not as bad as some of the reviews make out...

from A TripAdvisor Member
This really wasn't a bad hotel. However, it seemed to depend on what room you got as to whether it was quiet or noisy, or if you had a new bathroom or a slightly shabby one. We went as a hen party, and got a very good deal (about £50 per night). It was just what we needed - comfy beds, powerful showers and a great breakfast. Don't stay here is you want luxury, but if you're happy with something fairly basic and get a good rate, take it for what it is. The location is pretty good by the way.

Good Value, if you get a deal

Managed to get a room for just Easter Saturday night on the net for £75 (list price £130). Great location, excellent staff, clean, well decorated room. Infinitely better than the Old Ship up the coast which costs almost 3 times as much (WITH an internet offer) and is a dump!

Fantasic staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
Me and my partner stayed for a couple of nights late January 2005, this hotel is not as bad as other reviews state.

Admitted the room was not mint, but I did not go to Brighton to sit in the hotel room all day.

I can not comment on value for money because I did not see the bill, but the staff were great, espically the maid who made us breakfast even though we were late.

Don't rule this place out.

Get a cheap deal Log on to the Ramade Jarvis Hotels website to get a cheap deal. We had to pay in advance, with no return for a cancellation. This way, we got our room for £50 a night, including breakfast!

Fab tapas I'd thoroughly recommed Casa Don Carlos, a wonderful tapas restaurant.

Great free museum in Pavilion Gardens - try the cafe in gallery too. Very good on social history and much more too.
