Historical Traveller Reviews of New Steine Hotel
From the moment we tripped through the door, leaving liberal deposits of confetti, we were given a warm welcome. winter pimms all round. Our room was the one shown on the website, with pic on the wall of the lady with the afro and the brown cover on the bed. It was a strange room to get into as the door was set in a tiny alcove but once you were in there it was lovely. The bathroom, minus a bath but no matter, was beautifully tiled and spotlessly clean, as was the room. The breakfast we were very impressed with, the food was lovely and the staff were great. The dinner however did leave a little to be desired. the first night we had confit of duck which was lovely but they were no vegetables, only a small portoin of salad. The chips however were amazing and I would stay the night to have them again!! The second we had beouf bourginon which was ok. It wasn't very attractively served. just a large pile of beef stew with potatoes mixed in. The beef was both in large lumps and shredded and once or twice I think I spotted a vegetable in there. Saying that, the beef carpacio was brilliant as was the ameretto ice cream of which my husband had two portions!
All in all our stay was wonderful and the staff were friendly, helpful and well informed.
Be aware these rooms are not ensuite
Booked this Hotel for 1 night as had business in Brighton. Staff were very friendly and helpfull. Rooms comfortable but not what you would think of an AA****. The one thing you should be aware of however is that rooms are not ensuite. My room was accross a landing and down a few steps to toilet and shower room, my colegue however had to descend a flight of stairs to use facilities.
Food good and staff very helpfull and friendly as I said but lack of ensuite means a no return for me. This is not mentioned on website or while booking. Rooms also a lot smaller than those shown.
First Class Service - a definate YES!!!
After reading a selection of reviews on the Hotel I wasn't sure what to expect but I was bowled away at how good the Hotel was. Firstly the location is ideal - only 5 minutes from the pier, a few seconds from the Seafront and restaurants and bars within walking distance. Mainly the service was impeccable - we were greeted on arrival and offered a tea/coffee whilst we checked in - all very efficient. We were then shown to our room and the Hotel facilities fully explained to us. The room was a Standard Double which was very clean, not huge room but ample for a few nights stay - toiletries were ample and towels fluffy. When we needed an ironing board one was delivered within minutes. Before we went out in the evening we had a quick drink in the bar and the same person who checked us in was there and was more than happy to explain all the best places to visit in Brighton. The next morning the breakfast was lovely and they seem proud of their Sussex fair - all well cooked and well presented - and again the staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough to help - all in all a great stay and wonderful introduction to Brighton - well done! My recommendation is don't believe everything you read - check it out for yourself!!
Loved our weekend stay
My partner and I had a great weekend in Brighton and this hotel just added to it. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our meal included in the romantic weekend offer was FANTASTIC. The food was gorgeous and looking at the price they charge for the set meal I would not hesitate in recommending anyone to visit the Bistro. The room was decorated tastefully. We spent our time out and about exploring Brighton so we were not at the hotel in the day, but at night they did offer a bar service downstairs in the reception. The breakfast included in our stay was very pleasant, a standard offering of full breakfast would be expected in most hotels but the food again did exceed expectations.
Very good all round!
Nice hotel, good service
Just returned from a weekend in Brighton. New Steine Hotel was great and I'd definitely stay there again. It's basically a flash B&B/boutiquey type place with nice decor and some beautiful art in the dining room/bar. Breakfast was nice, although some people couldn't fit in the dining room and had to eat at their sister hotel, just down the road.
Staff were friendly and gave us a complimentary pot of tea as we were waiting to check in. Very helpful.
We stayed in room 202. It was clean and modernly decorated, although quite small. Recommended.
Not what we were promised!
After a lengthy search, I chose this hotel based on the prospect of getting a bigger than average room with a sea view, billed as 'Luxury double with seaview'. To our surprise, we arrived to find we had been given the basement room & there was no option to move into a seaview room as none were available! This had not been explained during booking. Luxury double really seemed an exaggeration! In the hotel's view this was justified by two things: the room's size- large enough to fit our travel cot so obviously a a larger room...and the existence of a bath in the ensuite! The room's comfort also left alot to be desired. The light and unlined curtains did nothing to prevent light from penetrating the room - most significantly from a lamp post situated right on the pavement outside our room. In addition, the radiators could not be adjusted leaving us hot and dehydrated during the night. Both room and ensuite were far from luxury- fittings were cheap, decor was tired and down at heel and the hotel seemed to be stingy on the small details- such as the quality of the tea/coffee/
biscuits, quantity of toiletries (eg only one to share between two) and fluffy towels available (only one each and not all that fluffy). These touches that you would expect to find in a boutique hotel were absent. To compare it to a B&B rather than a hotel would do many B&Bs a disservice. When paying £115 a night you expect a lot, a lot more than this!
Great location, staff, experience
Really enjoyed my stay. Room was clean and comfortable, staff friendly, breakfast tasty. Great location, particularly good for the Sussex Beacon Half Marathon start - only meters away. I strongly recommend it.
Really enjoyed it
My partner and I stayed at the Trouville Hotel for one night in August 07 and we were made to feel very welcome indeed. We had a double ensuite room with seaview and balcony which was nice and clean. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice served in a modern well presented setting. We enjoyed our stay and would definately return to the Trouville again on our next trip to Brighton.
A lovely Easter break
We booked the Trouville Hotel directly, as it was recommended in the "AA Britains Best" guest houses. It was spotlessly clean and in a great position in Brighton - easy walking distance to all the main attractions and beach. We had a nice sea view and managed to park directly outside the hotel. The owners were very helpful and friendly and happy to suggest places to visit. The full English breakfast was a very good start to the day. The price was very reasonable for the area and we would certainly go again or recommend this hotel to a friend.

A Tired Hotel
We stayed at this hotel on a visit to our son one weekend. It was in a nice regency square with lots of other hotels. We obviously picked the wrong one. The place was very clean but the rest of it was not worth the money. The owners seemed to have given up on the guest front and are just going through the motions. No help on what to do in Brighton. Minimal breakfast served slowly and no atmosphere. if you are going to Brighton look elsewhere. The last straw was that we purchased a parking voucher and due to off hand instruction still ended up with a parking ticket !!. Then they tried to charge us twice for the voucher!! Try New Steine area by all means but forget this one, they are just not bothered.
Top Local Tips for Brighton
We ate in a nice restaurant round the corner from New Stein Hotel called No Name. It was a nice relaxing bistro type place with good food.
