Historical Traveller Reviews of Jurys Inn Brighton Hotel

Convenient for station, standard motel

from dancer62
This hotel has only opened recently, and offers some good advance purchase rates on its website.

Parking is in the station car park opposite at GBP 10 per 24 hours.

All the money has been spent on the public areas. The room was disappointing - not much better than the Travelodge, but quite OK.

Location is great if you need ot go to Trafalgar Place or the station. Otherwise there is nothing really close by. If you don't mind walking, you will find places to eat in town. But you'll want to take a taxi back as it's all uphill!

Will stay there as long as the rates are reasonable.

Great hotel, grumpy service.

We booked a night in Jury's inn as we were staying in Brighton for a friends birthday and wanted somewhere cheap (we paid £55 for three!). The hotel itself was fab with fresh paint, clean and well decorated rooms and being by the train station we didn't have to pay a taxi to haul our luggage around Brighton.
The hotel is situated just north of the lanes, so it's a bit of a trek up a hill but we managed to stumble back ok!

The only reason I'm not marking this hotel as excellent is because of the staff. During our check in the receptionist didn't make it clear that we could pay by cash which caused some stress, and then when exiting the hotel later we were shouted at across the hotel because we were walking through the tempremental doors (that had no sign on them to state you should be careful!). So generally the staff were rude, which dampened our stay.

We didn't eat in the hotel we opted to have breakfast in the lanes as there are some great cafes, but be warned nothing opens until 10am! However we did venture into the bar where we enjoyed some beverages at a reasonable price.
Overall I'd say this is a great, cheap hotel to stay when visiting Brighton, I just hope the upkeep of it is maintained to a high standard, as it was only months old when we visited.

Fantastic hotel - great bargain too!

I booked this hotel for two nights for two people last minute from Late Rooms. We paid £55 for the first night (Thursday) and £79 for the Friday night - breakfast not included but can be purchased from the restaurant for £10 for a full english - (lovely food, all self-service buffet) although we did note that a sign on reception whilst checking out was a special offer of breakfast for £5 if booked in advance - bargain!

The hotel does not have a car park but is right next to the railway car park (very secure and safe) and I could see my car from the hotel. It does cost £10 per day/night though so can work out expensive if staying longer than a few days.

The hotel looked lovely from the outside and even nicer from the inside - I could not believe it is rated as a 3* and can only think it is due to the car parking. The reception area is gorgeous and very modern and the bedrooms even better! We had a very large stylish room with lovely lighting around the room. The cleanliness off the hotel is amazing and very impresive!

Staff are very polite and professional - although information given at check in was very little other than giving us a room card and telling us about breakfast! Although it was late and nearly 11pm. I asked for directions to the room and worked out that your room card is also needed for lift/stairs access - which is very secure and a great idea.

The bar is nice and serves food throughout the day. We went for a quiet drink on Friday night and it was just right, nice atmosphere but not too busy. We were able to relax on the huge leather sofas and enjoy a few glasses of wine.

This is an amazing hotel for the money. I would definately go back and stay at this hotel and would be keen to try other Jurys Inn Hotels.

Great Place

from janesta
I loved the room, and the prices were good. Breakfast was excellent. I would have given this hotel 5* but it does not have it's own car park. You have to use the railway station one opposite the hotel at £10 per night.

Brand new, clean, great location

from syllabub
I stayed here for one night in Jan 2008 in a twin room. I usually stay in a different sea front hotel when I visit Brighton (the Belgrave) but this time we decided to go for the Jurys to be closer to the station.
The hotel is brand new and very clean and is situated right behind the station, so very handy if you have an early morning train.
The staff on the front desk were very friendly and helpful. However there was quite a wait in the morning for check out. The rooms I found just the same as any other jurys, which are fine, but I missed the character of the hotel I usually stay at. We didn't have breakfast in the morning, which I do now regret after reading the other reviews on here.
If being close to the station is important, I would definately stay here again! Otherwise, next time, I'll go back to staying at the Belgrave.

Great value hotel with tatsy breakfast

from TheBrowns
We stayed at this hotel for 1 night and like other reviewers were very pleasantly surprised. As the hotel was new the bedrooms, bathrooms and public areas were all spotlessly clean. The bedrooms were a very good size with good facilities and the beds were very comfy. The buffet breakfast was very tasty and excellent value at just £5. The hotel is a short walk to the centre of town and benefits from this as I can imagine that other hotels in the centre of town could suffer from noise at the weekend. Would definitely stay again.

great accomodation

from sjohns14
we stayed from 1st Feb to 3rd Feb for a weekend away. Great hotel, great accomodation, next to station 10-15min walk to the seafront. We payed an additional £5 per person for breakfast, which we recommend. Excellent cooked breakfast probably one of the best i've had in a hotel. Very friendly staff, would definetly go again or to another Jurys hotel. I would say the facilities are better than premier travel inn and travel lodge hotels. Excellent value for money.

Really good hotel

from UKMunchie
10 friend and I have recently stayed at the Jury's Inn for New Years Eve just gone.

I have to say that the room rates are really reasonable and the rooms were fairly standard but very clean and modern.

The hotel is located directly opposite the train station which is excellent. The main centre is a 10 - 15 minute walk, which is ok.

If your after a nice hotel to stay in with reasonable rates for a weekend away, I would definitely recommend this hotel. The staff are really helpful & very friendly.

Brand new hotel - Comfortable stay with a few teething problems

from Five-Oh-States
I stayed here on business a few days after the hotel opened and had a pleasant stay, despite some teething problems.

The hotel is located right next to the station but about ten to fifteen minutes walk from the main shopping, dining and drinking areas of Brighton. This means that it is in a marginally quieter location than other hotels but not as convenient for leisure activities.

The spacious reception area felt much more like a "proper" hotel than many budget hotels and the check-in process was swift and accurate. The adjacent bar looked quite inviting.

My room was reasonably spacious and simply but stylishly decorated and the (accessible) bathroom was absolutely huge. In-room facilities included an LCD television, a desk with tea and coffee making facilities, internet access, an easy chair and table and a rather small double bed redeemed by achingly cool LED reading lights. A "do not disturb" hanger was not provided but I was pleased to see that my handwritten note in the door's card reader had been replaced with a proper hanger by morning.

So far, so "Above average" but now for the "Okay, but some problems"...

When I stayed the weather was absolutely atrocious so I opted for the in-house restaurant rather than a wet and windy walk into town. The very basic choice of fixed-price three course menus was a little disappointing, although good value, and the service was pleasant but a comedy of errors. After much to-ing and fro-ing the waitress and I managed to establish that there was both red and white wine identifiable only by brand, rather than by region or variety. Fearing that the bottle, half-bottle or by-the-glass question might send her over the edge I opted for a bottle of French-sounding red which was perfectly OK. The standard of the food was acceptable, if a little clumsily presented, but it took about 25 minutes for a bowl of soup to arrive and another 10 minutes after the soup had been eaten for steak (medium) to be served.

Finally, one of the lift carriages came to rest about two inches above the ground floor, leading a number of people (myself included) to trip on the way into it.

Overall I'd be tempted to rate the hotel "Above average" but some fundamental problems, which may well be fixed by the time you read this, bring it down to a "Neutral / average" in my eyes.

I'd certainly stay here again if I could get a decent rate, as the experience is SO much better than the Premier Inn - but I'd probably give the restaurant a miss.
