Lovely Hotel...!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe arrived at the hotel at 12.15pm, a little early to checkin but the friendly receptionist took our case off of us so we could go off and explore Bournemouth til our room was ready.
On our return to the hotel we were given our key and popped in the lift up to the second floor to our room 212...wow! what a room. very spacious, clean and well appointed. The best feature though being the sea view and view of the pier from the floor to ceiling window. The rest of the room was fab. Lovely bathroom also.
During our stay we also used the bar area and room service, both great. One moan though, on the evening of our stay the hotel was occupied by a large group of people attending a function. on our return to the hotel from the gig we'd been to at the BIC we requested room service only to be told it was unavailable due to volume of people at the function and that they were just 'too busy'. My hubby wasnt happ with this as we were paying guests like the rest and 'our money is just as good as theirs' so he ot on the phone and had a moan. He spoke to a different memeber of staff who appologised and made and brought up our sandwiches pronto.!
Breakfast was good. Again the restaurant was busy but after a 10 minute wait for our order to be taken the restaurant manager himself took our order and it was brought over very quick. All hot and well presented.
All in all it was a fab stay and i would recommend the hotel to anyone. All staff (apart from the one refusing room service) were amazingly friendly and helpful.
Oh...one other small gripe...our room was very HOT! Not sure id fancy sleeping in room 212 in high summer.
Great place for weekend stay
from JuliaLondonThe staff were so helpful that they offered to show us the rooms before deciding which we liked best. We chose two sea facing rooms which were a good size and fantastic views.
We also had a 4 year old with us and opted to eat dinner early. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and my son pretty much had his meal tailored to what he most liked.
Most of the guests appeared to be in retirement and my son was the only child, but no one seemed to mind him running about.
The only minor downside was the car park was full when we arrived but spaces soon came available.
We have stayed at the Marriott up the road, which was okay, but compared to the Hermitage not the same value.
Friendly and Comfortable
from A TripAdvisor MemberI spent 3 weeks here and if I went to Bournemouth again I would always choose to stay here!
Lovely Stay at the Hermitage!
from A TripAdvisor MemberIt was for a rather posh party and the hotel excelled! The hotel is very plush and the standard rooms are nice -
(didnt see the higher standard ones)
The food was simply lovely, we had a 3 course meal on friday night for £18.50 per head, service was excellent too.
The location is one of the best, right on the pier almost and a 5 min walk thru the park to town.
The hotel layed on a 7 couse banquet sat night which was divine, and again the service and staff very helfpul and pleasant.
Breakfast was good too.
All in all a great stay at a lovely hotel - very reasonable and would reccomend to anyone - would also stay there again, or at least go there to eat!!
Great Location
from Mooms77Great Location
from A TripAdvisor MemberAlthough we only paid the standard room rate we were upgraded to a room with a sea-view, which we had not expected. Our room and the dining room were both nicely decorated and clean.
Overall if ever we were to visit Bournemouth again, we would definitely return to the Hermitage, as we were made welcome & comfortable, no fault could be found during our stay.
allround good place to stay
from A TripAdvisor MemberHaving told the reception staff at the Hermitage our bad experience the night before we were offered a supreior room for the same rate as a standard room .
The staff were helpful in recommending good places to eat and always friendly and helpful.
Room was good with a sea view ,food was freshly cooked ,overall a place to recommend and stay again.
Good - but not that good
from CRC47The hotel seemd to be catering for 'older' people, although that was probaly just an impression gained from a one night visit.
The breakfast was adequete and well served by a friendly waitress, although it was nothing special.
On the whole I thought the hotel was average (maybe a little above) and I'm suprised it occupies such a high position in Tripadvisor's ratings (maybe Bournemouth hotels arn't that good).
We paid £90 for 1 nights B&B through laterooms; which wasn't exactly a bargin. I think average sums up the whole experience.
Loved the friendlness
from A TripAdvisor MemberVery very good, easily deserves a high rating.
from btlSuperb position opposite the beach and overlooking the main park.
Very highly recommended especially for those of us who are single travellers.
Also high praise as when going out first night reception had clearly made a slight error on someone elses registration which once corrected was followed by real sincere apologies plus an offer to give the 2 adults and 2 kids a free drink in the bar or have one sent up to the room as a way of saying sorry, how good to see.
Top Local Tips for Bournemouth
Chomp chomp chomp Eat at the fish & chips place across the street. It has a great outdoor terrace on the 2nd floor. Beautiful view and delicious food.
nightlife dont go to bliss its like well expensive
Spread your wings Bournmouth has a good sized town and a fantastic beach when the sun is out, that is by far its strongest point and attracts young people in droves. However, the planners have got it seriously wrong in Bournmouth. Allthough it has its gems such as the main park from the beach to the town, which is illuminated at night, it is a road dominated and ugly town, with tourist facilities poorley sign posted. The restaurants when you find them are pretty good. Strangely the beach front looks a bit of a shambles and some of the better hotels are in town. However dont just stay in Bournmouth, Poole is probably more up market, more scenic and has equally good restaurants, my tip is La Lupa. Also go to Lulworth cove which is near by or a trip to a country pub such as the Piddle Inn. Swanage is also more up market and has a good beach scene with a surprisingly good restaurant scene (though you will need to book) on a weekend. Avoid Weymouth, used to be great, but no more, the people suck.
