what a wonderful freindly family run hotel. They do not take stag or hens you get a great nights sleep and a fantastic breakfast.Great value for money. The basil fawlty review obviously had an axe to grind.May be they were loud and noisy and were told to be quite as that is how the hotel is run.
A great stay

Good food. Rooms although smallish were comfortable nicely furnished and spotlessly clean. Everybody was friendly and helpful and were only too willing to be of help. The hotel was in a very convenient position and great value for money.
Would certainly recommend it.

I have stayed in some excellent B&Bs, mediocre B&Bs and a few places I'd never visit again out of choice. But I have never been to a place where the owner verbally abuses you! I can only assume this is why they make you pay up front when you arrive so it is very hard to escape.
If it was just a case of the measly two tea bags per room, cold morning shower and too many guests squeezed into tiny rooms with very squeaky floor boards (all being the situation here), I would just put it down to a bad choice by us and not gone back again, unfortunately this was not all.
We arrived to join friends at the Pinedale, a family run hotel, for a activity weekend. For the first night there were 4 couples and the fun began at breakfast the following morning. The older male member of the family (Basil) did not seem to understand that one of the couples were both male and became convinced we were hiding extra people somewhere, it had to be pointed out that one set of us were gay making for a very uncomfortable situation, it was also very clear that Basil did not like the idea at all. Another of the couples could only stay one night so I checked on arrival if it would be okay if they could come back and change in our room after the morning activity this was agreed with another family member. Yet I was set upon by the Basil accusing me of having checked out that morning and not being allowed back in the building. At which point I explained that I had booked 2 nights and that the others were merely changing before going out again, not using any other facility and that we had attained permission the previous day. But still he would not have it, carrying on like a bouncer, fortunately another family member backed us up knowing that this had been arranged and he still carried on ranting at me. I have never been made to feel so humiliated and insulted and was visibly shaken by the onslaught. Not a word of apology was made at the time or later.
This episode cast a horrible shadow over the rest of the weekend which should have been a relaxing, fun time spent with friends we see only a couple of times a year. His attitude could of possibly been explained if we were a group of suspicious looking teenagers but we are all professional people in our late twenties.
The whole situation was appalling. While the younger members of the family were pleasant enough, their efforts were shattered by the behaviour of this one person who should in no way or form be involved with paying guests at an establishment of any kind. I never thought I would use the expression I wouldn't board my dog there but this would be adept for this so called hotel. I call for the three diamonds awarded by the AA be reviewed/removed and any recommendations made by the tourist information revoked immediately
