Just got back from a great stay at the Durley Hall hotel all, the staff are great and the management are wonderful. Joan in the coffee shop was out standing and the food was great. The spa downstairs is really good for relaxing and caters for every thing we wanted and it gave us a nice break from the kids. James the reception manager gave us a great rate and we would recommend you speak to him for the best rate overall a great stay well done.

Charming host, great food, clean rooms and good to be back after 40 years absence! I recommend it as a "no nonsense" guest house... Andrew and Debbie

Avoid room 47 and others nearby

from Spaaddicts
Hotel is as others describe - partly renovated - the lift is a danger and we spoke to one woman who had been stuck in it. We were woken 3.30am by terrible noise which made sleep impossible phoned night porter - said he would look into it - it stopped at 7:00 am.
Complained to reception in person - sorry it is a problem with the boiler - no offer of compensation to bill prepaid! As we left we heard other guests complaining of the same problem. Shame as room was nicely refurbished but small. The swimming pool looked good but did not hve chance to try it.

Nice hotel, really close to the beach and nice and quiet.

We stayed bank holiday weekend with the Travelzoo offer. Warrants four stars, nice clean room with a large flat screen TV. I would pack a bikini as the rooms are warm, but there is a fan on the ceiling to provide a breeze. Bar nice, wine okay, breakfast lovely. We did not sample the spa as preferred to walk on the beach. The evening meal was limited as they had run out of most of the food on the menu, but is was last thing on a bank holiday. Would recommend.

Staff

from hotelhopperSomerset
We stayed here for two nights at easter, received a warm and friendly welcome from the reception staff. were given our room which was very nice, plasma tv, nice tea & coffee making facilities, room very modern & contempory,, fresh & Clean, but a little small, telephone did not work, (as hotel had just under gone refurbishment) when we spoke to the manager about this, he very helpfull and understanding, he moved us to another room, and offered us complimentry breakfast during our stay, and continued to pull out all the stops to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, this hotel which is now HALLMARK had great facitities. lovely bar & resteraunt with entertainment. use of the spa, which includes 2 pools., jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, aromatherapy room,, and relaxation cave these are free of charge for guests that stay there, treatments are available at a cost. my partner enjoyed a head, neck & back massage. Great Hotel, Great manager, Great Staff, Great Facilities, good location. would certainly return & reccomend.

overrated

from ian-on-fire
we entered through the car park entrance and found the decor tired and tatty, we had an agreed price for our one night stay and they later increased this by 28 pounds. the other areas of the hotel had been updated but the lift is straight out of faulty towers.
get down early for breakfast as they seem to run out by 9:30.at checkout which is unusually early 10:30 they tried to charge us again for the room but this time it was only £70./ £30 cheaper than we paid through the travel agent??,all in all very average.

t have wished for anything better

from LittleMissExplorer89
This hotel was brilliant, great location, lovely staff, gorgeous rooms and lots of facilities. We managed to get a very reasonable price at lastminute.com and found it was worth every penny. Myself and a friend were looking for a short weekend break over the bank holiday weekend and found ourselves in this luxurious hotel. The facilities were brilliant, gym, swimming pool all clean and not crowded. We didn't eat in the restaurant but we did order room service which was delicious although quite expensive. We intend to go back to Bournemouth May Bank Holiday and hope to stay in the same hotel as anything else would be a let down in comparison!

Excellent Value

from Newells
Having read the previous reviews, my friends and I were a little worried about staying here. We were 3 girls on a spa wknd and we found the hotel to be fantastic value for money. Our bedroom was spacious with lovely high ceilings, clean, modern and comfortable. The room was extremely warm to start off with however Reception brought us up two fans immediately which resolved the issue. There was nothing I could fault with the Restaurant. Dinner and breakfast were both a very good standard, there was a good selection on the menu, the service was prompt and friendly, we were very happy. The spa is located in the basement, this was a fair/good standard however I felt some areas would benefit from a refurb (the ladies changing room leaves a lot to be desired!) Staff again friendly and very relaxing atmosphere, not too crowded.

Lovely Night away

from busy_bee4
I booked thi hotel room, very last minute.
Me and my partner wanted a night away from where we live. We decided upon this hotel.
The rooms were decorated lovely, with modern touch screens tv in and gorgeous furniture. We booked a suite and we paid ~£130.00 which we were happy to pay, however normally there are £200.00,i wouldnt say it was worth.

We dined in the Resturant and it was lovely, first class service in there. Very good price aswell.

We didnt use the swimming pool however it looked very clean and had we had more time we would of used it.

Check-out took slightly longer than anticpated as they charge on check-out and people were querying thier bills.

All in all the hotel was very clean, service was good. Locaion was perfect about a 15min walk to the centre.

Nice over night stay

Excellent

from Tigger027
The hotel was previously called the Durley Hall Hotel and Spa but has recently been taken over and refurbished and is now known as The Hallmark Hotel Bournemouth. It currently has a 3 star rating but they are seeking a 4 star rating.

We stayed there at the beginning of April and booked two nights bed and breakfast for 2 adults and 1 child using our Airmiles.

We left the booking very much until the last minute so had little choice and would not have stayed at the hotel based on the reviews left for the Durley Hall Hotel. However the reviews left since the completion of the refurbishment were all excellent and we decided to stay there on the basis of those reviews. We were not disappointed.

We were allocated Room 105 which was of a reasonable size and was newly carpeted, decorated and furnished. It had a huge bay window and was very light. It comprised of a large bed (maybe six foot) and a sofa which had been made up into a bed for our son. Additionally there was an armchair and a footstool, desk/dressing table with a lamp on top and a large mirror above, wardrobe (containing ironing board and iron), half height shelved cupboard (containing hairdryer) with tea/coffee making facilities on top, bedside tables and bedside lamps and a free standing lamp as well. And a large flatscreen television. There was an ensuite bathroom comprising toilet, wash basin and bath with shower over. The overall impression was excellent and the room was clean although the windows could have done with a wash.

If we could have changed anything, then my husband would have liked a full size mirror in the bathroom instead of just a shaving mirror. And we would have liked thinner pillows. We were provided with two fat pillows each and we both found them to be too thick. In hindsight we should have requested that these be changed to something that we found more comfortable - our son had a thinner pillow on his bed so they were available.

There was a wide choice at breakfast and we enjoyed breakfast on both mornings and could not fault it.

We ate in the restaurant on the second evening and had an excellent meal. Our son requested chicken nuggets, chips and peas (which was not on the menu) and received a huge portion which was charged at just £3.95. And I really enjoyed my Thai chicken salad. We did have to query the bill as we were charged for two Pepsi but only had one and were charged for two side dishes which we ordered but did not receive. This was sorted out quickly and efficiently though.

The indoor pool is very nice and my son and I enjoyed a swim.

The staff were all friendly and courteous. Unfortunately one of the waiters did not speak fluent English and led us to believe that we needed to order the aforementioned side dishes which, if they had arrived, would have been superfluous to requirements. That is not a direct criticism of the waiter who was very nice - just an observation.

Overall we were very pleased with the hotel and would be happy to stay again.

Modern Hotel with good Interior Design

from DizzyStaffs
I stayed at the hotel for a Combination of Business / Leisure for 2 nights. The hotel has undergone a 2 million refurb and has now changed to the Hallmark Hotel Bournemouth. The hotel prior to this refurbishment was very dated and I am aware not liked very much by Business clients, however now they have had a total refurb and the public areas are very impressive with a lovely Bar / Restaurant area and a funky / chic entrance. The rooms are all done in the same decor which I think is good for consistency. My room had a very confortable bed and pillows which is of course most important and all rooms have these beds etc...The carpets in the room were modern, clean and soft. The hotel bedrooms do not have Air conditioning but are fitted with remote control ceiling fans.
Breakfast was not bad although they need to keep a check as things were running out and also on the Sunday they did not have freash baked bread like they did on the Saturday, I heard some guests querying this. Lunch snacks were nice & good quality.
The dinner was also very good & well presented, although for a leisure I think it would be nice if they dimmed the lights in the Restaurant to create a better ambience although it is a very nice restaurant with tables dotted around and some quiet private tables also tables set up for one person which is good if you are on Business as you do not feel awkard getting a seat !!
The spa facilities in the hotel were ok however you do have to walk to the main pool via reception but I don't think this is a problem, although I think they need to re-tile the floor of the spa pool as tiles missing off the floor. I did not have a treatment so can not comment.
All in all a really nice hotel which I was happy to return to each day and I think this is suitable for both Business and Leisure, I would stay in this hotel again.

Great Hotel - Really good value for money

from ClarkBristol
The hotel has recently been taken over and is now known as the Hallmark Hotel Bournemouth. It's in a really good location - about a 10 minute walk from town and has recently been refurbished. The room was quite small but we only stayed one night so not a problem and it was newly decorated, modern and clean. The spa facilities were really good with a nice pool - will probably be really nice in the summer. We didn't eat in the restaurant except for breakfast which was really good value for money.
