Very Disappointing

This is quite an old hotel and one of 3 built next to each other by the same chain. One has had a £million pound refit and this is screaming out for the same. The room standard is appalling and is in desperate need of a makeover. The original furniture wouldn't grace a second hand shop. Our room had stains on the carpet, edges peeling off of the furniture which was also scratched and very worn looking, one set of curtains were falling to bits and covered in holes! The bathrooms are dated and very poor for hotel standards. Most guest houses have better rooms than this. We complained and got a move but the new room was only marginally better. The rooms are clean and the staff very friendly and helpful but we were so disappointed in the quality of the rooms it's untrue. The pool needs cleaning out the front which doesn't add to the image.
The service is fine & everything else (apart from the rooms) is fine, the bar is OK as is the restaurant and the breakfast was good. The location is very good and has easy access to the town. I paid £140 for the room but the standard is just not what you expect for that price or star rating. Sorry but wouldn't return unless they demolish and rebuild.

Very nice stay

Stayed here for a couple of nights as a last minute getaway. Decided to go for a cheaper hotel in order that we had more money to spend whilst away. When arrived we were upgraded to a sea view room which was small and not overly modern but was most importantly clean and had everything you needed. However the view was perfect, if we layed on our bed all we could see was the sea - great. All staff that we came in contact with were very polite and friendly. The breakfast was also very good. There are areas of decor which are tired but overall for the price we paid we were more than happy with the hotel.

Lovely short break

Celebrating our Silver Wedding Anniversary, we had 3 lovely days at a very reasonable price. When we arrived we were a bit disappointed with the room we were initially given so decided to go and see the Receptionist, she was very pleasant, approachable and apologised. She offered us a choice of 2 other rooms to view and we swapped for a lovely bright room with large windows to the front and side. The room was very clean, tidy and well equipped. The food was fab, we were delighted with the variety at breakfast, the dining room was very clean and spaced out well. We found all the staff there very polite and curteous. The hotel free parking was easy and accessible during our stay. Thanks.

the cliffeside hotel is in need of a lot of TLC the lift was working but small if the kids was not playing with it the car park is free but if you go out at night in your car you ll be lucky if you can find a place to park when you come back the breakfast was out of this world the staff help full the evening meal was a let down it was what idd call arty food and not much of it if you did not go half-board and you payed for an evening meal it was £23 each im not a big eater but by ten pm we have to find a take way i think the hotel has seen better days and its a hotel that i would not go to again the staff 9 out of 10 cleanness 8 out of ten over all with the cost of it all 4 out of ten

Comfortable at the Cliffeside

After reading some of the reviews about the Cliffeside, I have to say I was rather dubious about booking. I couldn't have been more wrong, the reviews are very unfair. From the moment my wife & I checked in, our needs were met & exceeded. All the staff we came into contact with were great, especially Rachel, Linda, Martin & the housekeeper whose name I didn't get. The food was plentiful with a wide choice for dinner each evening, and always served on hot plates. Our room was comfortable, the location overlooking Bournemouth beach. We had lunch at the Cumberland which had obviously just been refurbished & wow, we thought we were in a resort. I will certainly be booking the Cliffeside again. Thanks for a great stay

Accomodation very disappointing

Stayed here for 2 nights in March. Room was extremely poor - on 1st floor behind reception, dark, side view with scaffolding outside the window full of paint pots. Room smelt damp, paper peeling off the ceiling and worst of all, brown water coming out of the taps. When I emptied the bath there was a later of grit at the
bottom and this had definitely not come from me!!
We were with a group of people - others were disappointed and changed rooms but we were not so lucky as nowhere for us to move to by the time we arrived. We were not the only ones with brown water - took photos and felt tempted to complain but frankly couldn't be bothered. The only positive thing to say about this hotel was the appearance of the restaurant which had recently been refurbished. But were disappointed that they ran out of the wine we were drinking after we had ordered the first bottle and some of the food we ordered was wrong. The food quality was basic but not worth the price tag. Breakfast was ok but didn't appreciate being reprimanded by the waiter for serving myself from what looked like a buffet but was actually not, although there were no serving staff around when I went up to get food. This place could really do so much better.

Arrived on the Friday for a long weekend was greated with a happy looking team who could not do any more if they tryed .

The food was out of this world rooms were good staff were excerlent its nice to see smaller holets still have that personal touch compeared to the big ones.

Some reviews are a little unfair

My partner and I have just returned from a 2 night break at the Cliffeside and I have to say I think some of the negative reviews are a little unfair.
I booked through Last Minute .com and got a very good deal for our 2 night bed and breakfast stay, then I looked on the reviews and was dreading what we would find on arrival, I imagined it to be like Fawlty Towers!.
However the staff are very nice and helpful, and our room had obviously undergone recent renovation, the bathroom was tiled in loverly natural stone coloured tiles and the bathroom suite looked brand new.
The room.. though not ultra modern was clean and bright with thick curtains to the floor, the bedding was the whitest I ever seen in a hotel (and we have travelled all over the world).
My only gripe was that the bed was very hard and the rooms do get very hot but that might be a bonus for some.
The breakfast was tasty and very hot and my partner was desperate to get a copy of the music played during breakfast ,
however t it was a compilation produced by the Manager! he has good taste...
I agree that the decor in the corridors is a little dark and dated but who hangs around in hotel corridors on holiday? Bournemouth is a great place in itself and a good starting point to visit other nearby towns of interest ,
We will definately go back and we thought we got good value for what we paid.

Loved the Cliffeside

I wanted to treat my wife to a quick weekend away so I booked the Cliffeside on their 241 offer advertised in a Sunday newspaper. Ideal location only a 2 hour drive along the coast from Brighton.
I have to say what good value it was for £30 a night each. Dinner in particular was excellent and very friendly staff. Reception upgraded us to a lovely seaview room as it was my wife's birthday and we finished our break with a lovely walk to Sandbanks along the seafront.
Definitely worth a return visit.

I am extremenly suprised how this hotel has achieved 3star status, it is in real need of modernisation. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful but this of course doesn't compensate, my room didn't look like it had seen any upgrade since I would say the 70s and was beyond tatty e.g. ripped curtains, ripped carpet, damaged bathroom fittings, very dated bathrom suite, peeling wallpaper, badly fitted TV shelf, cheap bedroom fittings etc. Moreover the hotel is not cheap, luckily I had planned to stay only one night, still I am dissapointed.

All constructive criticism is always welcomed, to give a one star rating because this client was not happy with the room is quite dramatic. It seems the service and food were excellent, its such a shame that some people cannot give a FAIR judgement, I would also like to say that the price paid was 2 for the price of 1, a great deal for a three star seafront hotel. A point to note is that rooms in this hotel were refurbished 4 years ago and are currently undergoing a refurbishement programme of two per week.

Pay more it will be worth it

Not what we expected for a 3 star hotel. The lift is the biggest joke of all it broke down for almost a day during our stay and as our accomadation was on both the 3rd and 4th floors with my sister and her newborn baby being on the 4th it was beyond a joke. The stairs in places are dangerous am amazed nobody fell.
The bedroom was ok the bathroom was newly done and very smart however the pull switch in there was hanging off the ceiling with bare wires exposed i reported it but it wasnt fixed during our stay.The beds were old and the bedding needs updating. It was fairly clean but smelt musty.
On the plus side the receptionists were all very helpful the restaraunt manager and his staff couldnt do enough for us. They need more staff to work the bar as the receptionists were doing a lot of the bar work. I would say if you can afford a little bit more go somewhere else if not be prepared for lots of stair climbing and if you are claustrophobic you have no chance of getting in the lift.
