Top Local Tips for Boston

Hell on earth So this is the Season of Goodwill. So this is the Season of Peace. So this is the Season of Christmas. I don’t think so. This is definitely the Season of Scrooge. This is the Season of the year that all businesses say ‘Screw you’ to the customer, who are NEVER right. Here is a true story of the ‘festivities’ for this year, 2008. Here is a typical example of the selfish attitude that pervades here in Boston, Lincolnshire. A middle-aged man and his wife were looking for accommodation just prior to Christmas, so that they may visit relations in the area. Due to the man suffering diabetes, which over the years has created a mobility problem, he was particular just which establishment would have the pleasure of his company. He was very explicit about his needs, explaining carefully his disability and the need for a full breakfast on the morning of his departure, the 25th December. After consideration, taking into account all of the available establishments, it was decided that he would stay at the New England Hotel, in Wide Bargate. After their first night, the 23rd December, he was quite satisfied with the accommodation, although the bed was a little hard, but the breakfast well surpassed his needs. They spent the following day, and part of the night, with their relatives, enjoying an early Christmas dinner, playing with the latest small addition to the family and general catching up with chit chat. They left feeling warm and fuzzy about the day. It was a good end to an agreeable visit. They were, by now, looking forward to a good nights sleep before the long drive home and work on Christmas night. On arriving at the New England they were approached by a member of staff who informed them, very bluntly, that they should not be there and should have booked out on the morning of the 24th. To further increase their discomfort they were informed that no kitchen facilities would be available for the morning, therefore no breakfast. It was agreed that they could sleep the night but no facilities would be available on the morn. As you can imagine the man did not sleep as worry about food for the following day was foremost in his mind. His medical condition was such that food was paramount to his well-being. He had, after all, booked the room for two nights as ‘Bed & Breakfast’. In the morning, once the couple had packed their few belongings, the debacle continued when they went to settle their account. He hobbled to the check out desk, using his two sticks as best he could. An under-manager had, by now, come forward who magnanimously agreed, after much was said about the disgraceful attitude of management and staff, a whole £20 deduction. WOW! They couple left in disgust vowing never to return to that particular establishment. Welcome to the 21st century in Boston. What a way to treat customers. What a way to treat visitors. What a way to encourage tourists. HUMBUG! It makes you proud to live here. NOT! This is not the way to run an Hotel. This is not the way Boston should be represented. This is not the way to treat guests. This is not the way tourists should be welcomed. This not the way the disabled in our society should be treated, unless, of course, you live in Boston. The management and staff of this establishment should be ashamed of themselves. Head office should be looking to replace all on duty that day, including the staff member who took and verified the booking. Shame! Shame on you all…
