Great food, very friendly service, but this pile needs a lot of money spent on it and management need to pay much more attention to details. Many in our party found the bedrooms damp and bedding damp - mould on walls - broken M&S hangers - lights out - inadequate heating in parts - museum of cob webs - nail cuttings and porn in room drawers - one guest electrocuted by kettle - one guest kept awake by roosting pidgeons on/in roof. Carpets, wall coverings and curtains grubby. So, if you like a really good english meal and arent worried about the rest -go , otherwise......

We like the Royal Hotel

My son and I together with several friends, have stayed at the Royal Hotel over the past six years, and find it a pleasant and relaxing hotel. The owners of the hotel are friendly and helpful, and very accommodating to any special requests. Admittedly there are a few things that sometimes aren't quite up to scratch but these are minor things, such as a missing lightbulb or a bath plug that you can't get out easily. The fact that the Royal Hotel is bang opposite the sea is really lovely, particularly if you have a front-facing room during the week. There are no functions on then, and it is very peaceful - you can hear the crashing waves all night long, and breathe in the fresh sea air. The sheets and towels are always immaculately clean and fresh, and the beds are comfortable enough. The rooms are clean, and furnished in a homey way, and the t.v's work well. The kettles are safe, you can have a cup of tea at any time in your room, and the bathrooms are clean and pleasant. The location is perfect, the beach is right outside, the pier is a few yards up the road, the shops are a five-minute walk away, and the people are friendly. They serve a lovely breakfast, and nothing is too much trouble. Go and stay at the Royal Hotel. It is a lovely place and we will be going again next year.

Don't go to the Royal Hotel Bognor

We booked a so called family suite as we stayed in Bognor for a family event. The suite (or flat as they called it) was dreadful. No heating to speak of, we had to ask for fan heaters during the night as it was freezing, but the noise of the fan heaters lept us up. We were so cold we slept, 3 of us fully clothed in bed, with our youngest in a cot that was barely legal (it was ripped). The catches on all the windows were broken, so it let even more cold air in. The balcony door didnt have a key and was unlocked, which we only found out after our 5 year old got out onto it. There are no smoke alarms, even though the suite had a cooking area. When I complained the daughter of the owner called in a 70yr old man to berate about not turning on the non existent heating, and then denied the windows were broken and the balcony was unlocked. Then said that we shouldn't have been put in there in the first place. She knocked £30 off the bill, but that only covered the fact that we high tailed it out of there without eating breakfast, as the place stank of cheap burnt fat. We're taking her to the county court to get our bill refunded AND we've complained to the local council about the safety aspect.
