Visited this hotel 29 30 31st December 2007.The service the rooms facilities and staff all 100per-cent. It was the most enjoyable New Year I have ever had.

We found this hotel provided everything we wanted. We were upgraded to clean comfortable club room on both recent visits, the reception staff were pleasant and professional, the room service was quick and the food arrived hot. The actual grounds and leisure facilities were superb. We would certainly recommend this hotel to our friends for a relaxing break.

Not ADe Vere i would stay in again!

We stayed here for a christmas treat to watch a show at the winter gardens, on check in not bad decent service and the ambience of the hotel was positive. Upon arrival in our allocated room i can only say it absolutely stank of what i can only describe as body odour and very poor condition. We rang reception immediately and asked for another room and we were changed amicably and quickly. The new room was so hot, there was air con but this was sub-standard and to be honest useless. Service was good in public areas no complaints there. There was an extreme amount of facility upgrading when we were there so the pool was off limits. On return that evening we went back to our room expecting a good nights sleep how wrong we were, during the night approx from 2am a group of men began being extremely noisy in the the corridor shouting and being extremely roudy in fact the door handle of our room was being tried in our opinion to access the room!!!! As we were about to phone reception the tirade ended. That morning we complained politely to reception they admitted they knew these people were a problem but security let then down, they said if you eat in the hotel we will give you a 50 per cent discount. The meal was ok and the service the same. Breakfast was a great array of food infact absolutely excellent. The service was appalling with rude waitresses. We will never return to this hotel.... we have recently stayed at the de vere cavendish in london which was a really great experience and the swindon hotel was great to so hopefully they will up their service, decor and cleanliness. Its a shame all de vere hotels cant be as good as the others mentioned.
Utter rubbish

We had been invited to the wedding and wedding reception of my brother in law being held at a local Blackpool venue.
Having arrived at the hotel; approx 10.30pm Saturday 23rd September after the wedding reception, to check in our first impressions of the hotel were very positive. The hotel lobby was clean and we could see the other common areas of the hotel looked modern, clean and tidy.
Having checked in we went to our room. This had been booked as a family room however after opening the door it was clearly just a double room with a sofa and table, my daughter agreed to sleep on a two seat couch with a pillow and worn blanket, I was far too tired to complain or request another room.
The room was not what we expected. In summary I would describe our concerns as follows;
1)Room décor was in old and jaded and the carpet worn and dirty
2)The bathroom was not very clean and the tiled surfaces dirty and jaded
3)The bathroom suite was clearly circa 1980 and the basin was chipped.
4)The room had a peculiar unpleasant smell.
5)The furnishings were old, worn and smelly.
6)The blanket in the wardrobe was worn and shabby
7)The room windows only opened 2-3 inches so ventilation was poor.
8)Would expect heating controls to regulate the room temperature adequately they did not !
9)The television picture was poor and the remote faulty or in need of batteries
10)The overall impression of the bedroom accommodation was very poor.
The only positive thing I could say was that the bed was fairly comfortable and the linen was clean and fresh and our breakfast the next day was satisfactory.
However the room was certainly not 4 star accommodation, being well travelled and having stayed in many hotels this accommodation was definitely not up to standard the room costing me £101.28 + vat
It would appear to me that the hotel has obviously been reasonably well looked after with regards to the common areas, bar , restaurant, grounds and health club etc. However if my room was the benchmark the hotels bedrooms had clearly been missed off the agenda with regards to upkeep and general maintenance and appearance. The rooms reflected a 1980’s appearance and feel and looked in need of a full refit.
Finally my last major concern was the fact that my mother in law had also booked a double room for the same date as ourselves. Having arrived at the hotel approximately 2 hours after we arrived it transpired that her booking had been cancelled and no other room was available. This had apparently happened because her son, who’s wedding we were all attending, had booked the bridal suite, however he had subsequently cancelled this and it would appear that all the bookings under that name had been cancelled in error.
Having been woken to this news my wife was mortified and spent the next two hours finding alternative accommodation for her mother.
I subsequently checked on the internet I found numerous complaints about the standard of accommodation, which leads me to believe that I am not the first to complain and probably not the last.

We booked Heron's Reach on the basis that we had no special requirements just needed somewhere to stay in Blackpool for one night. We were allocated a double room, which formed part of a connecting room. It was like sharing the room with the adjacent occupiers whilst it was apparant that they were only talking at a normal level. The sound insulation was appauling to the extent that I know that one of the girls has a cat and was thinking about getting her bathroom done! As they are quite entitled our neighbours watched TV into the early hours and were up and about for an early start at 6.30am.
The room was stifling hot with no airconditiong in the £137 a night room. We did however have the benefit of hearing the hotels airconditioning unit outside our room when the window was open.
The cooked breakfast was also cold.
A total disappointment.

I stayed here on business and had a "Club room" which was clean and had little extras such as dressing gown and slippers. The room was too hot and we could not seem to get the temperature right. The bed was very wide but not long enough as my husband is 6'2" so he had to sleep a bit sideways. The bathroom was lovely and clean but not very spacious. However, the staff throughout were very helpful and polite. Breakfast was lovely and we did not have to wait long - the advantage of getting up early probably helped here! The leisure facilities are very good with a lovely pool, squash courts and a golf course. The hotel is situated beside Stanley Park which is a quiet area of Blackpool, but only 10 mins drive from the town centre. Taxis are plentiful in Blackpool and there is also a bus service from the end of the hotel drive.
Loved It!- but not for Golf!

I really enjoyed this Hotel, it set quite a way into Blackpool and was easy enough to find. I liked the fact it was away from the town centre- away from all the tacky stag + hen do's, and old ladies on the pier. Its easier enough to go into town if you fancied it though.
The food here was fantastic! Dinner was a pit posh, no jeans in the evening but the food was to die for. Breakfast was even better, the leisure facilities were good too, although I have been informed by my partner that the golf wasn't particularly great. He wouldn't go again for golf. Squash courts were good if you could book them, as was the pool.
The staff were excellent all the way through, very polite and pleasant. Our room was loveley, with a lovely view over the golf course. Even though we paid for the most basic room. The room was quite small - but we had a huge 2m square bed in it which was excellent, and our bathroom was lovely too!

What'sgood - the staff - receptionist excellent manner and very polite, attentive and gave impression nothing was too much trouble.
what's not so good Room not that big - unable to change the temperature in the room - it was far too hot. Bathroom a bit dated and bath had numerous chips to the base.

A 4* Should At Least Be Clean

I have stayed at this hotel before. There were minor problems with ineffective heating in bedrooms last year. This year's problems with soiled beds and linen have raised doubts as to whether I would stay there again.
Our check-in procedure was faultless. We were assigned standard twin rooms 207 & 209.
One bed out of the four was filthy with stained coverlet, stained sheets, covered in pubic hairs, and stained valance and bed base. We complained immediately and the bed and linen was replaced within minutes. During this procedure we found that another bed's coverlet was soiled. This was replaced with a new coverlet. On our 3rd day the staff changed the bedlinen again and replaced this second, new, coverlet with yet another soiled one. This lack of hygiene spoiled our holiday experience. Not 4* quality!
Otherwise the sports facilities are faultless. Last year's bitterly cold swimming pool is now a pleasant temperature. My family were very disappointed to discover widespead building work being undertaken. The pool and snooker tables have been removed and offices and treatment studios are being put in their place.
There is a pleasing ambience to the public areas.
Breakfast in the main restaurant can be busy with long queues at popular times. Bar Nineteen provides an reasonably priced snack breakfast.

Excellent hotel, 5 minutes drive from blackppol pleasure beach
Me and my partner stayed here at thought it was great. Very friendly staff, leisure facilities excellent(better then cannons health club which i am in back home).
We stayed in a "club" room. It was small, nothing fancy, very much like a travel lodge but did the job. Breakfast in the morning was buffet and there was a huge choice which would cater for all tastes.
Overall I think this was a great place to stay, very welcoming, relaxing and we will be definitly going back next year, cant wait. Better then a lot of the 4 star hotels i have stayed in. Cant comment on the golf couse, too busy enjoying the leisure faciliites.

Sub standard golf

My partner and I have stayed at a number of De Vere hotels in the UK and have always been impressed with the hotel and golf courses however Herons Reach is not up to the standards of the other hotels in this group. We looked forward to the golf but were very dissapointed. Any and everyone was let on the course irrespective if they had ever played golf before, according to the De Vere web site handicap certicates are required - but they were never asked for. Rounds on this relatively short course took ages, we had to wait on every shot, the course needs some TLC, bunkers without sand, greens full of pitch marks, fairways needing maintenance etc etc. Interesting we did not see any course maintenance being carried out during 2 rounds ! Obviously the Management look at the course as a means of lucrative cash flow. The rooms were small and OK perhaps for a 3 star hotel, but certainly not 4 star standard, lifts seldom ever worked in 4 days BUT the staff were excellent and could not do enough to help with restaurant suggestions etc.
Poor golf course

If anyone thinks a 4* golf break will offer good food and a well kept course then please re consider before booking. This golf course has some stunning holes but over the last few years the condition of the course has sadly deteriorated. At £37 / round you would expect the same conditions as the other named courses in the area . However the rooms are fine for a golfing break. All the staff were friendly and the hotel location was excellent , close to Blackpool but also far enough away to relax from drunken stag & hen nights. I think the name De Vere sell's the golf course but most golfers will be dissapointed. Ps Don't complain the the golf shop you will only get fobed off with some poor excuses.

Top Local Tips for Blackpool
A good base to explore the attractions. Herons Reach is on the outskirts of Blackpool, in fact, there is little indication when you are staying at this hotel that you are in Blackpool at all! If you want to avoid the town because it is not your scene, travel to the Lakes and Windermere for the day (about an hour or so drive) Or go in the other direction to Lytham St. Annes. There is superb countryside within fairly easy driving distance from the hotel.
Pleasure Beach Go on a Sunday morning - it's empty until about 2pm and all the rides open at 11am. Didn't really have to queue until later.
Out of town centre Blackpool is not to everyone's taste but this hotel is located far enough from the centre to avoid the brash, "kiss me quick" culture. The location is peaceful set back from the main road. Using the back roads in Blackpool is easier than driving to the Promenade to go towards St Annes or Fleetwood. We also read the hotel's literature on festive breaks and these are very reasonable in comparison to what we have read about festive breaks in the area where we live.
