Top Hotel, Best in Birmingham

Booked the Hyatt for 2 nights for myself and a friend who were having a girly weekend. Read reviews here first so I knew it was going to be a nice hotel. I have to say that I have stayed in many hotels, a lot of them 5 star but this hotel was one of the best. It should be a 5 star not 4 as the staff, location and facilities could not be faulted.

We checked in at 12:30 and even though the website said check in was from 3 they found us a room to go to straight away. There was a customer having a problem at the desk when I was there and although he was clearly not understanding what the receptionist was saying, she was ever so polite with him. The lobby is large and modern and immaculately clean. Our taxi door was opened for us and our luggage taken inside. We had a room on the 17th floor. There are 4 lifts which seem to arrive in seconds. On one occasion I saw Joss Stone in the lobby with her entourage which I believe shows how good a hotel it must be. The lifts have windows which allows you to see out as you travel - brilliant!

The room was large with easy to control air conditioning / heating with a thermostat on the wall and another control panel by the beds. The window runs from the floor to the ceiling which is just amazing. There was loads of wardrobe space with lots of hangers (a usual gripe for a woman). There was also an iron, ironing board, trouser press and "normal" hairdryer not one of those awful bathroom mounted ones. There were weighing scales in the bathroom, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, 2 x soaps, 2 x large towels, 2 x medium towels and 2 x hand towels. There were slippers, shower caps and face cloths. The bathroom was a pleasing modern style with a speaker to allow TV sound while you are in the bath.

There was a TV with Pay TV which we did not use but seemed to have a good selection of family / adult pay TV. There was a well stocked mini bar. We used room service and it was very quick (within half an hour) and good quality food. The room cleaners were amazing. Not only did they pick up all our clothes but they hung them up in the wardrobe, they even spread out our toiletries onto face cloths neatly and placed one packet of alka seltzer in each of our glasses in the bathroom for us. They must have seen I brought them and thought they'd prepare us for our hangovers - genius!

Breakfast was really nice, they brought coffee/tea to the table and you helped yourself to: Baked beans, hash browns, scrambled eggs (other eggs to order), mushrooms, sausages, crispy bacon and tomatoes. There were also about 6 cereals, fresh and dried fruit, yogurts, prune juice, water, orange juice, apple juice and carrot juice. There were a good selection of croissants and pastries too. Breakfast is actually quite expensive in addition to the cost of the room and I think next time I would actually just venture out of the hotel and find somewhere else for breakfast.

The hotel location is really convenient for Birmingham. It's about 10 minutes walk (through the subway walkway) to the Bullring shopping centre. It is literally round the corner from Broad Street where you will find many bars and clubs. We recommend the Living Room bar and Flares 70's bar. You will also find Brindley Place with many eating places. We ate at Bank which was like eating at a top London restaurant except with better service.

Check out was quick and easy and the doorman ordered a taxi for us very quickly. Everone we talked to while out said "where are you staying". When we told them they said "ooh the Hyatt, very posh", so it obviously has a local reputation of being the best. Amazing to think it was only £89 a room without breakfast which is only £44 each for a twin room. Would never think of staying anywhere else in Birmingham.

Stayed at the Regency for my Dad's birthday this weekend. Booked a room on the 2nd floor Regency Club. The views from our room were lovely. Room very large and comfortable. Club Lounge and continental breakfast provided were excellent. Staff so helpful.

Stayed at this hotel from 1st July-3rd July. Excellent hotel. Staff were friendly, rooms very spacious and bed extremely comfortable. Would definitely be returning.

I was taking my partner to see Destinys Child at the NIA so decided to treat us to a stay at this hotel. We booked into the Executive suite and can honestly say this hotel is fantastic.

The room was magnificent. The food was excellent. We were treated like royalty

I can honestly recommend this hotel to anyone. It is by far the best I have ever stayed in

In trying to reserve rooms for a conference in Birmingham, I found only small numbers of rooms at four hotels. I reserved four rooms at the Hyatt in the fall of 2004. They requested a fourth deposit six months in advance, and another fourth 120 days in advance; the Hyatt was the only hotel requesting advance money. I deposited over $1600 hoping to get people to attend the meeting. Rooms were reserved at 20 GBP under internet rate. Realizing lack of interest in the meeting, I sought to cancel the 4 rooms 57 days in advance of the meeting. I was told they would cancel, but the hotel would keep all (every dollar) of the deposit money. After canceling at other hotels so as not to lose the $1600+ of deposit with the Hyatt, then I was told that to include breakfast in the stay was going to cost $10 per person more ($27+ tip total per person for breakfast) than what was quoted as the internet rate. I'll write a subsequent review following my stay, but these people haven't been helpful. Perhaps they can redeem themselves, but at this time, I would not book the hotel again if I were traveling to Birmingham with a small group for a meeting.

I stayed here very recently and I have to say it is gorgeous, rooms very spacious, views terrific, definetly ask for a high floor, bathroom spacious, perfect and i only paid 80 stg which i thought was a bargain.

This is no-where near a five star hotel but does the basics very well -it has a gym, health club and decent sized swimming pool, floor to ceiling windows and is near the Mailbox. There were a few 'rough around the edges' issues and checkout was a bit like McDonalds but for £89 a night through the hotel website it would be churlish to complain. Get a room as high as possible overlooking the canal. Go out for dinner.

Came to Birmingham for a 1 night treat for my birthday! The hotel was well situated,and to be honest I expected a nice hotel?! However after checking in and seeing the room it became obvious the stay would be great. The rooms were clean and tastefully decorated,and the plushests pillows and duvets really pleased me,the bathroom also was clean and provided robes,flufffy towels and nice toiletries. However the facilities at the newly refurbished health club were fantastic and made the stay one to remember! so don't forget your swimmers!! To finish off a great stay breakfast was one of total relaxation, with all the food you could want.Staff on the whole seemed to go out of there way, to help and please guests, more so than at most British hotels.

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency with my partner for one night at the beginning of January 2005. Our King room was on the 21st floor overlooking the canal and south Birmingham. This hotel has always been considered the premier large hotel in Birmingham and rightly so. The entire building has now undergone a refit with new bedroom furniture, and completely renovated bathrooms. The public areas have also been redecorated, including the leisure club which really did need redoing! This hotel comes highly recommended, especially at the very reasonable rates that are currently being offered, £89 r.o. or £109 b&b. Book now before the rates go up!

I stayed at the Hyatt a few years ago on an overnight business trip. I had a room on the 19th floor, which gave spectacular views over the canal and the city. The rooms have floor to ceiling windows, so I wouldn't recommend rooms on the higher floors if you're afraid of heights, but I loved just sitting by the window and staring at the view - it was a nice way to relax after a busy day at the office.

Overall a very comfortable room, great breakfast and good service.

For the NEC Taxi from the hotel to Birmingham New St Station..£4......New St to Birmingham international Station (NEC)....£2.50. Easy carefree travel

Parking in Birmingham Car access to the centre of Birmingham is easier than you might think, including New Street Station. Make sure you have a good map though! Once parked, the whole central area is quite compact, so long as you enjoy walking.

The Jewellery Quarter No trip to Birmingham should be complete without a trip to the Jewellery Quarter. This is a quarter square mile of jewellery wholsalers that have some wonderful and unique pieces that you definetly will not find on the high street......and if you do, it will probably be 50% more expensive at least. Just ask for directions to it and follow the clock tower to reach the start of the quarter mile.
