We stayed at the Sallyport after reading all the wonderful reveiws, to be greeted with attitude from the outset, shoes had to be removed, even though the carpet looked grubby, and a dog raced up he stairs ahead of us, smelling of wet dog and leaving a stain on my wifes trousers.
As we came downstairs to breakfast, the said dog was tucking into leftovers from a guests breakfast plate, disgusting.....
Overpriced, overhyped, not so clean and a rude host, steer clear.

Top Local Tips for Berwick upon tweed
The Queens Head Stay, eat and drink here. The menu changes each evening depending on what is fresh and the food and service is exceptional.
Queens Head dining Rough Guides recommends The Queens Head pub for dining, and having been there I can recommend it as well. It looks a bit scruffy but the dining area up the stairs has been fully refurbished and the food is good. You'll need to book for a Saturday in season - we saw people being turned away.
Walk the wall Make sure and walk the fortification wall around the town, there are some great houses and views!

We were shown to a small loft room (Mulberry Suite)which we had paid £140 per night. It had a door with a glass pain in it and no blind, anyone could see us in bed. We were told no one came up to the top floor. Slippery wooden stairs, a risk hazard in socks! We were told off, when we returned from our meal out, for talking whilst walking through the ground floor,and then had to listen to a fight kicking off in the flats fifteen feet away,(not owned or controlled by the hotel)
Big deal over what time we wanted breakfast and then they forgot us!!
Bad attitude, poor value, stay clear. Stay at the Queens Head in the next street.
