Top Local Tips for Berwick upon tweed
Taking the train to Berwick upon Tweed It is very easy to get here from Edinburgh, Scotland or even from York. Just make sure the train stops here. You can easily walk from the train station to town and if your accomodations are right in town, then you are all set with easy access.
Berwick Film Festival The Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, an annual celebration of the art of film, returns on Friday 18 – Sunday 20 September, for a weekend packed with film premieres, cult classics, innovative artists’ video installations and parties. A range of films for all age ranges are to be screened, each celebrating the art of film offering something for all tastes and fancies. Classic comedies return to the big screen on Saturday at 6pm, with the Silent Film Classics on Saturday evening featuring 'Sherlock Jr', starring the 1920's American comedian Buster Keaton. 'Sherlock Jr' is also being accompanied by Edinburgh-based quartet 'Jane Gardener and friends' who will be performing their especially composed original score for the first time in England; a treat for all the family to enjoy together. To follow the comedy theme, why not catch 'Sleeper' on Sunday at 2pm. Written and directed by, and starring Woody Allen, it more than pays homage to Keaton's slapstick style in this Sci-fi comedy in which Miles Monroe has woken up in the year 2173 after having been cryogenically frozen in 1973. The Festival is also proud to be hosting the World Premiere of Peter I. Chang’s 'Tokyo is Dreaming', a reflection of the bustling city life in Japan’s capital, on Saturday evening at 8pm. Saturday afternoon shows a short films programme for the wee ones, ‘The Red Balloon and other Stories'. Featuring the classic 1956 tale in which a boy is followed by a balloon on the streets of Paris; and new short 'Varmints', a beautifully animated tale of a creature's attempt to save the world from itself. Tickets are now on sale from the Maltings Theatre & Arts Centre Box Office (01289 330999), and you can find more information on all the events from the Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival Website: www.berwickfilm-artsfest.com.
