Nothing to complain about

from JEWE
We stayed for 2 nights in a family room 2 adults and 2 children. It is in a nice old converted building so not your usual travelodge. I couldn't fault anything except it was a Travelodge! - the usual budget look. An absolute bargain at £26 per night for a family of 4. I probably would have been disappointed if I had paid full rate of £75 plus parking, plus breakfast as this would have made it around £100 - far too much to pay. Comfortable bed - great shower. No problems with noise, presumably as we stayed mid week. The cheapest parking is I think in Charlotte Street, about 10 mins walk from hotel.

Great for a night out...no chance of any sleep!

from Robbie_UK
My usual complaint about Travelodge is that they are next to dual-carriageways and a taxi ride away from town centre / local attractions. However, Bath Travelodge is definitely an exception, it is in the heart of the City Centre on busy George Street. Parking is 5 minutes away at Charlotte Street car park (£6 for 24 hours) and The Roman Baths are also 5 minutes walk away.

George Street has many restaurants, bars and clubs and is great for a night out. We ate at Shangri-la (average) and went to Revolutions Vodka Bar which was basically below our room. The problem is that this is a great place for a night out but not somewhere to sleep! Even if you roll in at 5am, this street is still loud!

My advice is that if you are a bit of a Duracell bunny and are still up for it at 5am (and good luck to you!) then save your cash and stay up all night. If you’re no longer a fully charged Duracell bunny, then the best thing to do is stay in the quieter part of the City Centre. I saw a few hotels in the area between the railway station and the Abbey and this area seemed quieter at night but is only a 5 minute walk away.

I’ve given such a poor rating because above all other factors, I expect to be able to get some sleep when I pay £75 for a room, so Travelodge has failed to fulfill my number one and most important requirement. Apart from that, everything else was fine, the room was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Noisey and unfriendly

from rebeljenn
My parents stayed in TravelLodge Central here in Bath for 3 nights. I went into the hotel room so I can write the review - I live in Bath so I didn't need the hotel!

First of all, they booked two nights but we decided we were going to Bath a day earlier so we needed another night. By the time we got to Bath, it was early in the morning and we had ammended the reservation to include another night at least 2 days prior to this. Because of the way they do their reservations, they assign people to rooms so my parents had to be kicked out of their room after only a couple hours of sleep on the first night and then get another room for the two nights that they had booked initially. This is an inconvenience because the hallways in the hotel are narrow and there are steps, so if you have heavy luggage, it is difficult. It's also like a maze inside.

Some of the receptionists were friendly, but some of them were downright rude and/or strange. They seemed not to want to deal with the customers or give any assistance.

The rooms are a good size for English rooms, and they seemed clean to me.

The worst thing is the noise. Yes, it is a good location on George Street, but George Street is full of the clubs and pubs...it's the busiest street of nightlife in Bath. My parents stayed there on Saturday and Friday night, and the noise was so bad that they had trouble sleeping, they said.

Bargain ... but not brilliant

from Ulalatweed
Stayed here for one night. The hotel is very central and in an excellent location for exploring all of the tourist attractions, shops, bars etc but the room we had was minimalist to say the least. We booked through the Travelodge website with a specil offer of £26 per night and at that price I guess you can't complain but the room provided the minimum of comfort and facilities. The bathroom door wouldn't close and the room itself was tiny but as a budget chioce it's good value. Be warned that check in is strictly adhered to and there is no room to leave anything while you wait. The ASK restaurant just round the corner is lovely and well worth a visit.

traffic

My family and I had stayed there for 3 nights from 8 June - 11 June. When checked in, We were allocated a flat on 1st floor facing direaction of light-well, it was quiet outside but there were serious subsonic vibration sound similar to that of a old refrigerator. I guess it is near some building servicing facility. Upon request and check by staff, I had had a change of room. When admitted, nothing abnormal was noticed so I accepted.

However, the problem emerged when opening the windows. The traffic outside created serious disturbance, the worst appeared at night time as the pubs downstair produced loud music BOM !! BOM !! BOM!! and those customers shouting fiercely. The nuisance could not be avoided as the windows must be opened as there is not air-conditioned and the weather is hot during my stay. And no electric fan is provided in the rooms.

The room rate is 75 pounds per night for my stay, not too low as best western is 95 pounds with breakfast. The cleaningness of room is fair and the tap valve of the bath tub is poor and hard to be handle.

I think the best time to stay there will be in winter time as all windows can be closed all day and night the problem will be resolved.

pleasant stay

Had a 3 night stay at the Travelodge recently for my wife's birthday with a group of friends . Hotel itself is basic as you would expect for a travelodge , but room was very large with every thing we needed . The main advantage of the hotel is its location which was excellent for us visiting the local bars and restaurants . A couple of slight problems - 1 , Car Parking is to a minimum either behind the hotel ( very few spaces ) or a 5 minute walk away and approx £ 15.00 , wasnt too much of a problem as we parked up on the Friday and didnt use the car until our return on the Monday .
2, As per previous reviews we stopped in a room at the rear of the hotel overlooking the car park and were awoken early morning to the horrendous noise of the skips being emptied .
Despite this we found the hotel excellent for our requirements and would return .

Good location, unusual rules

from summersthree
The room was roomy, nothing special. The hotel requires you drop off your key whenever you leave. This is a bit odd and can be quite annoying if you come in when others are checking in. You have to wait until the clerk is free to get your key. Also, the room does not have an alarm clock, or a ironing board or iron. You can ask to borrow them, but they only have a limited amount on hand so plan ahead. Also there are no toiletries except for toile tpaper. Bring your own soap and shampoo. We had a room away from street and had no problems with noise.

sleepless in Bath.....

from A TripAdvisor Member
When the name says Central it means central, as in right between two pubs.

Our room was on the ground floor facing a car park. We were kept awake by the noise of the pubs and then from the drunks hanging about in the car park. I felt a little unsafe as the windows are the old style slide-up, with a only puny lock holding them in place- it felt as if the window was in fact open as it provided little heat protection or sound proofing. To add to our noise problems we were woken up a little before 7am by the rubbish lorries coming to empty the industrial waste bins that were full of glass bottles.

The room itself was basic; a very springy matress, a TV with the antenna held together with ducttape and a shower that barely worked.

Having previously lived in Bath I know it's proud of the good hospitality it provides and this was just not up to standard. It would probably make more sense to find somewhere a little further away from the entertainment unless you aren't bothered about sleeping.

Good location, shame about the disco

from A TripAdvisor Member
As people have commented the location is excellent. For the price my girlfriend and I were delighted with our room, it was a large and very clean. After a meal out we got back to the hotel and were confronted with loud music from a nearby nightclub. The music was very loud and we found it difficult to get any sleep at all. It's such a shame because the hotel and location are great but you will struggle to get any sleep, the music keeping you up is pretty awful too - your usual Ben Sherman/Stella Artois charver type drivel.

Excellent location-good price!

Just returned from a lovely stay in one of the most striking architectually places in England-Bath. We opted for the travelodge after seeing an offer on their website at £26 a night. The travelodge is set in an historic building, in an excellent location, surrounded by some fantastic bars and restaurants-right on your doorstep! The staff were friendly and more than willing to offer advice on attractions etc. The room was quiet and comfortable. The only downside was the poor temperature control of the shower, which seemed to have a mind of its own- a little worrying! Overall I would def. recommend this hotel.

town quiz and hunt. we have been to bath before so wanted somthing diferent, if you want a good walk and some fun too - try loging onto cluestogo.co.uk and buy a town hunt for bath for a few quid from them. it takes you around the town in about an hour using clues and photos to guide you. we loved it. You dont win anything at the end but thats not what its about!

Loch Fyne Restaurant Bit expensive, but worth it. Blotted out the problems faced in the hotel for a while!
