Historical Traveller Reviews of The Old Mill Hotel

lovely hotel and very helpful staff

from barney72
we both stayed here for 1 night at the end of may, from the moment we got there we were made to feel welcome.

The hotel is set in lovely grounds with fantastic views across the river.

The food was cooked from fresh and all was excellent, the restaurant manager , gary. was very helpful and went out of his way to accommodate us.

we liked it so much that my boyfriend proposed!!

This hotel is well worth a visit , and we hope to go back soon for a longer stay.

Very much improved

We had a Christmas Holiday, and were very disappointed, with the Hotel so used this site to express our opinion, the owners did contact us and invited us back at no cost, which was very proactive, Having recently visited Bath we called in just to have a look, and I must say they are making a grand effort and we shall be calling back later this year to take up their offer to stay we shall keep you posted but from what we observed, We think it is well worth a visit as it is such a great location, and Bath has so much to offer

SHABBY....Stuck in time - Relies HEAVILY on its location.

from welshmanLondon
The owners of this hotel like resting on their laurels! A lot of money should have been spent reburbishing, but they have relied on the 70s decor and their location FAR too much & for far too long.

How lazy & what a missed opportunity! Somebody needs to put their hand in their pocket & clean up its act - and soon!

It is stuck in the depths of time & totally shabby. I agree with other comments about the stressed-out duty-manager...what a disgrace. Rush, rush, rush!

AVOID "The Lodge" -what a misleading name for a concrete monstocity of a shoebox!

I stayed during April 2007 - a tiny, tiny single with no hot water! (They knew about the faulty boiler before I arrived, but said & did nothing). When I asked for a discount, nobody was around to authorise it! Surprise.
What a nice way to awaken & head for an interview.
They have still not bothered to contact me.

Stayed at the Old Mill for a short mid-week spring break, taking advantage of a special offer rate.

Visitors should check when booking whether they are getting a room in the main hotel (which look nice from their website, though I haven't seen them in person), or in the 'Lodge', a breezeblock two-storey unit at the back of the Car Park, where the rooms are barely bigger than the double bed, smaller (and less nice) than a Travelodge, with low ceilings and the smallest bathroom of any room I've ever stayed in.

Location of the hotel is very good, but I think they should be clearer about the standard of room you will be getting. With dinner included and only paying £43pppn it was just about acceptable, but I would have been very disappointed if I had paid any more.

What A Wonderful Surprise

from NaplesFL9
On the recommendation of a friend who previously stayed at this property, I booked a two night stay at this charming hotel while escorting some American friends around Bath. I can not express how pleased we were with our stay. The hotel was everything my friend raved about and more.
The hotel is set along a river (Avon), outside the busy town center of Bath, with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside out every window and from the patio near the dining room and lounge. Guest rooms were clean, well appointed with lovely furnishings and the beds were crisp, fresh and extremely comfortable.
Meals were to die for! We were served a full English breakfast in the main dining room both mornings and returned from a busy day touring to an elegant four-course gourmet dinner the first evening. Service was gracious and all members of the staff were very attentive to their duties. Meeting the chef as he made his rounds of the dining room at dinner was a bonus since most of my guests like to cook. Chef was kind enough to share some recipes and prepared a special dessert to top off our dining experience. It was like being in a country club setting or having a personal chef.
But the best part of our experience was saved for last as the bill for our stay was quite reasonable for the high standards of service we enjoyed. It was by far the best value for the money we found in our almost two weeks of touring.
Travel takes me to England once more in the fall of this year and I intend to visit Bath and The Old Mill again. I'm looking forward to it already.

Excellent short break

from Lifeisonelongholiday
My wife and I stayed at the lovely Old Mill Hotel for two nights. The setting is absolutely delightful by the river Avon, with views over the surrounding countryside. Our room was extremely comfortable with super views and we were provided with complimentary mineral water, bath towels and cotton slippers.

The hotel is in a very peaceful and relaxing location. Breakfast and dinner were excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. All in all it was a really a wonderful short break and my wife is already planning a return trip.

okay

from bob123-7
Was it worth £78pppn Dbb - probaly not. We stayed in a superior room which was pleasant and clean-The view sensational.
Food okay- The staff were really pleasant and helpful - nice stay- would i go back probaly not but not because of anything at the hotel- just would want more value for money

Good location otherwise dissapointed

from gowerb
What a fantastic view, unfortunately not backed up by the service. There seems no attention to detail and much costcutting. The rooms are ok but the beds small with minimal sheets so I had a cold night. The bathroom was hardly impressive. Breakfast was server very slowly and the waiter failed to take down our order correctly, the coffee was so weak - well lets not go there!

The receptionist was very friendly.

As cheap overnight accomodation (£60) it's ok, beyond that forget it.

Very disappointing Christmas

from TJGH
We chose to stay at the hotel for a family, Christmas holiday, also it has been graded as a 4 diamond with a silver award for product excellence by Visit Britan, I dont see how .We were in the lodge and were aware that the room was small, but did not expect to find mold, on walls, in the shower, even on the telephone cable, the room was not vacumed all the time of our visit i.e 5 days, the shower could not be thurned off, so we had to put towels in the tray to stop the disturbing noise The food was very poor, not freshly cooked and derserts obviously not home produced. The Christmas lunch was very poor meat over cooked etc need I go on, (£65.00 ), It should be pointed out also that the lighting in the public area was very dim and lacking any atmosphere, It is a great shame as ti is in sutch a great position next to the river

Hotel has great potential but in reality is mediocre

from richardlondon
My stay at the Old Mill was decidely average.

It has great potential with the pleasant location overlooking attractive countryside but still close to the city of the Bath. However my room was tiny and has very poor soundproofing which kept me awake. The shower also had very poor water pressure and at one point totally stopped while I was still covered in soap!

Customer service ranged from good/friendly to the functional.

One positive point, there is free wi-fi available in the lounge area.
