Sleepless nights and poor response

We stayed here for two nights. Both were interrupted by the ringing of a faulty phone. I had to get up one night at 2, 4, and 6 in the morning to answer it. Complaints were met with disbelief. An engineer was apparenly called in but didn't fix the problem so was woken up AGAIN at 4 am. The only compensation offered was a bottle of house white. So that's #190 down the tube for a couple of sleepless nights in Bath that ruined our days. Thanks alot Tasburgh.

I so enjoyed my stay here. Beautiful room (the Tennyson) excellent views of Bath and the gardens. Wondeful breakfasts, lovely linens that were so comfortable. Sue Keeling, the proprietor, was absolutely wonderful. I will come again!

A friend and I stayed at the Tasburgh in early April. I had read the reviews and was looking forward to staying somewhere a bit nicer than normal. We weren't disappointed - the hotel is absolutely spotless, the decor throughout is tasteful and fresh. The bedroom we had was a good size, the bed very comfortable, the t.v was a high quality remote swivel type - so just lie back in bed turn it on and it swivels to face you - could have played for hours!
I get so fed up with staying in places that profess to give everything and charge a fortune and you come away feeling a bit disappointed and ripped off - that the hotel owners dont really care they just want your money. The Tasburgh is not like this at all it really is the perfect place to stay and every little detail is taken care of. From the starched white tablecloths to the friendly and courteous staff to the delicious breakfasts, the low background music of classic fm to the relaxing and comfortable residents lounge - everything was perfect!!
Dont waste your time looking around for anywhere else.

B, shame about the Welcome!

My family and I (husband, two boys and mother) stayed two nights at the Tasburgh. The house is really lovely, the views spectacular and the rooms are very clean. However, the welcome was not very welcoming. We were made to feel that my two boys did not know how to behave ie warning about how to speak to the parrot, removing the doll from the bedroom and also removing the two chairs from our room, which had recently been purchased. I can understand that the house is lovely, and the owner wishes to keep it as such, but my boys have frequently stayed in 5 star hotels which are far more superior than the Tasburgh. When we went to breakfast, I had to eat with my children on one table, whilst my husband and mother had to sit on a different table. I noticed that this also happened to another family on the same morning. Overall, the welcoming and the service were no match for the house and its surroundings.

I stayed with my partner for a weekend break, and it was absolutely breathtaking.. Great views from our room (which was simply perfect) and very romantic. We both agreed the breakfast was the best we'd ever had. I hope to be traveling back to Bath to stay again, couldn't reccomend it enough.

B, watch out for noise!

I stayed at the Tasburgh Hotel in July with my family. I'd read the excellent reviews on this web site and found them to be true except that no one mentioned that it was located on quite a busy road! I had thought that since the hotel was outside of Bath proper, that it would be a quiet location.
Our room was facing the road and I found that there was a fair amount of noise, some as late as 11pm and as early as 4am. The road is a smaller highway with lots of trucks travelling on it. I should qualify that some of the windows were open because it was very hot - we had an upper room and it would have been too hot to keep the windows closed.
Having said that, the place is absolutely lovely. The rooms are carefully maintained, the beds and bedding are great. The hostess was very helpful, the breakfast delicious. The grounds are an absolute delight with gorgeous views of Bath.

This hotel is a true gem and the personalised and friendly treatment makes you feel welcome. Beautiful gardens and individually decorated rooms add to the authentic English country ambience. Rooms are clean and well-equipped. A walk through the property's gardens along the canal takes you into the centre of Bath in 20 min. Wear good shoes though. Breakfast in the conservatory is special. We stayed in the Eliot room, which is nicely decorated and is right next to a lovely terrace with a great view.

Perfect in any respect

We've stayed at Tasburgh House Hotel for three days - much too short for such a nice place. We have chosen the room "Jane Austen" which is facing the pretty garden of the hotel. Each of the twelve rooms is decorated differently and cheerfully. Of course you should have a passion for sumptuous furnishing. Actually it makes fun to discover all those details. The hotel is very clean, the breakfast very tasty, and the beds very comfortable.
Never before we have had a more friendly and dedicated host than Sue Keeling which is the proprietor of Tasbourgh Hotel. If you choose Tasburgh House Hotel please give our greetings to Sue ;-)

Coven Trip

Two friends and I have been to The Tasburgh every July for a weekend girly trip for the last 8 years. Each year we leave the hotel, we book for the following year. The rooms are decorated to a very high standard, with many personal touches. The owner, Susan, is extremely helpful (if you are looking for a place to eat, make sure you get a recommendation from her). The same staff that worked there the last time we visited were there on our first visit and always remember us. The breakfasts are always good - make sure you taste their homemade muesli. The walk into the City centre is only about 15 minutes and is very pleasant, so don't be put off by the location.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough!

Wished we had planned to stay longer

We visited Bath in October 2004 at the end of our 2 week vacation in Germany and London, so we were ready to relax. The Tasburgh House was the perfect place. I only wish we had known and planned to stay an extra day or two. My three year old loved Charlie the grey parrot who greeted us when we arrived. We stayed in the Wells room, comfortable beds and lovely linens. We ate the first night at the George ( a pub recommended by the owner only a few minutes drive - away from the busyness of Bath) The pub had a great atmosphere and great food. The breakfast at the Tasburgh was wonderful, so many choices, and the staff was very friendly. The owner brought my mother a birthday card since we were celebrating her 60th birthday during the trip. The Tasburgh is in an excellent location to enjoy Bath. We walked into Bath even with a light drizzle. The walk was really only 20 minutes. I highly recommend the Tasburgh.

I have just returned from a lovely weekend at the Tasburgh. I have never been so impressed by the deco in a hotel, everything was so clean and fresh. My bedroom was immaculate and the presentation was spot on, Susan Keeling the proprietor had got the attention to detail just right. Every room had a little bear dressed in period costume and you even got compliementary mints, peanuts and sherry in the room!

I do not agree with another review who was unhappy about them not providing an evening meal for under 6 people. I can fully understand that it would not be worth while for them to cater for just 2 people in the evening as this would probably cost them more than they could charge in employing staff to cook and serve the meal. They also served a lovely breakfast, the full cooked breakfast is all grilled and not fried which I was very pleased to see.

The is also a lovely walk into Bath along a canal which runs along the bottom of the hotels grounds which are also extensive.

Susan Keeling is an excellent host and there even a parrot in the reception to welcome you! Hes very good at saying "hello!" in different voices!

All in all well worth the money and I would highly recommend a visit!

Just about perfect

We stopped at the Tasburgh on the way to Devon. First impressions are very good, the front of the hotel made a change from the yellow stone you see all over Bath. In the recption the kids loved the bird Charlie, and spent most of the time begging to go and see him. The walk to Bath seems pretty long (40 mins) but it was raining so we took the 3 minute ride in the car. Parking is hard to find so a taxi may have been better. We stayed in the family Shelley room with 1 double bed and 2 singles, which was spacious enough and very tidy. Breakfast was great, far too much choice though! Overall a great little hotel, the stand in manager did a great job making us welcome.

wonderful hotel

My husband and I have just spent a lovely weekend at the tasburgh and we found it most delightful. Our room had a wonderful views across the valley,we could also see the hotels beautiful gardens and canal which runs along the bottom of the garden. The room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable . The breakfast was very nicely cooked and served and nothing was too much trouble and is highly reccommended. We enjoyed the walk along the canal which took us into Bath even though it took us about 40 minutes we were only too pleased to avoid the busy roads. We would not hessitate to stay there again when we next visit Bath.

You get what you pay for ... I did a lot of research on hotels in Bath and I found that the general cost of hotels in Bath is expensive. so I then looked at what I could get for the best price and I found that the type of room, the meals served and the willingness of the staff to provide comfort and direction was very important. At the Tasburgh House Hotel, the staff was always very helpful in making sure that my trip went smoothly by providing directions, reservations for meals, calling for taxis and giving me plenty of ideas and brochures on the sights and activities in the area. Plus the nature of the hotel allowed me to talk to other travelers and find out about the area and about England So don't consider cost of the room as your only criteria - look at the whole package because a trip is a whole experience!!
