I enjoyed our stay in the Carfax Hotel so much I thought I'd write a quick review to tell you all.
It is very friendly, well-run, clean and charming. Best of all it's location in Bath can't be beat - in a beautiful Georgian street. I'd suggest you won't be disappointed if you book up there, even though it is not especially cheap. It's just great!

A Great Base for a lovely weekend

from A TripAdvisor Member
Clean, friendly, large room (the mid-priced double room), fairly secure parking (although not enough for one space per room, so if you've parked, leave the car!). Very near major attractions, set in a beautiful street. Would highly recommend this hotel.
General Bath Note, don't have a boat trip on a low level boat, as you can't see over the embankment!

Great Location

from LyndaCambridge
This hotel is within a 5 minute stroll of the town centre and sights.
The rooms were very clean and staff very friendly.
The breakfasts were a bit on the small side but there was plenty of variety so you didn't go hungry.
Was maybe a little bit pricey at £100 a night for a glorified guest house.

Bravo Carfax - brilliant stay!

I like the way Tripavdisor works, and wanted to let other people know how good my stay at this hotel was.

Room - We stayed in Rm 24, which was a double/triple room on the first floor at the front. It was beautifully decorated, had three big windows looking out on to the street, a cute bathroom/shower and an additional room for dressing and tea stuff.

Service - The staff were nice and helpful (thanks Martin for the directions), the breakfasts were always cooked well (they have a organic thing going with local suppliers or something), and the room was spotless.

PArking - that was a bit traumatic at first as the car park was full when we arrived, but we got a free parking permit and a map from reception and parked the first night at the back of the hotel. We got in the car park the next day no problem and forgot about the car.

Location - perfect. Couldnt be better for the Roman Baths, Church, River and shops. We enjoyed the park at the back of the hotel, and had picnic lunches with a bottle of wine - which I recommend.

Price - We came for a long weekend during the Bath Music Festival (Sat - Tueday) and paid £119.90 on the Sat night and £105 on the other nights. This included breakfast and while I wouldn't say it was cheap I still believe it to be very good value for money. The room quality and location was worth it. I have stayed in Bath hotels before in the centre and paid much more for a lot less. I recommend the Carfax as a great middle price hotel.

I'm sending my brother a few pics of my stay in Bath and thought I'd post them up on this site. They aint so hot, but you get an idea of the place.

Clean, Friendly, Central and reasonably priced - Highly recommended

I guess i said it all in the review title. My boyfriend and I loved it. The room was clean and big (room 35) and felt very georgian and intimate once we closed the shutters for the night! ;0)
Breakfast was a bit crowded at 9.45 but when it came it was a real treat - liked the idea of local companies for the environment and freetrade teas, which was strangly 'right-on' for a Bath hotel I thought?
It was really close to the Roman Baths, which we enjoyed - strange to think it's 2000 years since the romans did their thing in Bath.
Only compliant was the car park was full when we got here, but they gave us a permit for the street which was fine.
I would recommend the hotel to anyone, as we looked around at similarly priced hotels on the day, and were shown some really shocking rooms (steer clear of the Red Car - eugh).
p.s. if you come to Bath, make sure you go to the Victoria Art Gallery near the bridge - it's got some really great Gainsborough oils.

We would definately return ....

The start of our UK vacation - for the price, it was great value .... great location, large room, the best breakfasts, the staff provided very good service.

Excellently located

Nice pleasant hotel. Excellently located for walking to the town ctr. Good choice of fresh local produce for breakfast. Would definately reccommend and return to this hotel.

Watch out for their rising rates!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We read many good reviews about this B&B and decided to send them email asking for their rates for a 2 nights stay for 3 adults. In the email, we provided specific dates for arrival and departure and for 3 adults. The rates quated was 105 pounds for superior room with 1 double bed and 1 single bed. After much research we decided to call and reserve the room. However, we were quoted a different price this time; 135 pounds for the first night and 145 pounds for the second night for 3 adults. When I referred him to the email sent to me with different price quote for same days, 3 adults and same exact room, their reply was it was a mistake. Since we were too tired to look for another B&B or hotel (after 1 month of planning for Europe trip), we went ahead and book the room. I am very disappointed with their rising room rate and would look for other place to stay next time!
Management Response from A TripAdvisor Member
A genuine mistake was made by reservations in this case. The rate originally quoted was for a child sharing a triple room with two adults rather than three adults, and an automatic confirmation corrected this to three adults - raising the price. The guests queried the rate, we discovered the error and with apologies honoured our original quotation. Then we fined an unfavourable review of the hotel placed before their actual stay!

Carfax Reservations resents the implication that we hike up rates indiscriminately, as this is clearly not the case - we couldn't do business for long if we did! I would hope that when our guest from Texas actually stay at the hotel, they will acknowledge what good service and value for money our hotel offers and accept that one mistake does not a systematic scam make!

Just got back from a quick visit to Bath to see family there. Stayed in the Carfax for 4 nights on one of their internet deals. We were in room 24 a fantastic Double/Single room which for the £92 upgrade rate we paid was by far the best hotel room I have ever stayed in for the price - and I travel a lot! The view of the street and hills was fantastic, the bathroom wasn't huge, but really well done (they told me the room had recently been decorated), beds and chairs were comfortable, and the room was spotlessly clean and had interesting color co-ordination. I read the reviews on this site before I choose the hotel, and believe me, the breakfast is something to shout about - and it's not an extra! Whahey!
It's well placed for the city and the park (it has so hot when we were there, on one day we just 'lifted' a coulple of the hotel's deck chairs and headed for the park at the back.)
I would have no problem recommending this place to anyone, in fact don't stay anywhere else!

A nice place to stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
a lovely place to spend some time....great room, large, nice bath and shower. Enjoyed ourselves immensely.

Terrific breakfast too. Two minutes from all attractions, but calm, away from things feeling.

s the Carfax from now on!

We loved the Carfax. The beautiful Pulteney Street outside and a comfortable hotel inside. Helpful and friendly staff, excellent meals, spotless rooms and good prices. I had a gorgeous view of Henrietta Park and enjoyed the quiet surroundings. Staying at another Bath hotel a few months earlier meant sleepless nights due to loud motorbikes and very vocal passersby under the window. I will always stay at the Carfax whenever I have the very good luck to return to Bath.

Top Local Tips for Bath

Contact hotel's directly... i tried to get this bath hotel to give me a room on one of the book online websites but was told they were full. I got desperate and started ringing around hotels, and found that I was offered a better deal on the phone than online. Ask for their 'best price' and tell them you've stayed there before on a cheap rate - that worked very well! good luck.

Bath's Metro Check out the Metropolis cafe at the bottom of Milsom street. Great coffee good price nice atmos.

Do Not Stay Here Don't do it. Go somewhere else. These have to be the rudest people on earth. Whilst at the Dukes I shared my experience and they were not surprised.
