Historical Traveller Reviews of Ashford International Classic Hotel

Lovely Hotel

from Parren75
We decided that we needed a night away and booked at this hotel on a whim.

The refurb has turned this into a very modern and trendy looking hotel.

The room was great as was the bathroom.

The swimming pool, sauna, hot tub, steam room, etc. were first class.

We ate dinner at the hotel which tasted very, very good but was on the expensive side. The drinks from the bar were also tasty, but a total rip off. Why do hotels charge so much for drinks in this country?

The breakfast was of the best breakfast buffets I have ever had.

Nice place

I stayed here 1 night on business and have to admit I was quite impressed.

The room was modern, spacious and and well equipped with tea and coffee facilites, a fridge, hairdryer, iron and board plus trouser press. The bathroom was large with both a bath and overhead shower. All were spotless.

My room had a little sitting space with a comfortable chair and small table and a seperate dressing table.

I didnt venture into the resteraunt area as I arrived quite late and just wanted to relax. I ordered some room service from a limited menu and it arrived within 20mins. The food was decent and reasonable priced (I recommend the cheese omlete & chocolate ice cream for desert).

The bed was large and comfortable. The covers and pillows were immaculate.

I slept well, in fact a little too well and I missed breakfast! Staff were helpful and friendly. Overall a decent stay - if I'm in the area again I'd definatley go back.

Stayed as a late night stop over on way to the Tunnel. Arrived to be greated by a very efficent friendly receptionist who managed to talk the Restaurant Manager in to giving us a table in the FULL restaurant.

Superb rooms, spotless and modern. Would normally upgrade but no need as room excellent.

Restaurant very busy with Christmas parties but still great service and lots of choice. Restaurant manager very good and helpful.

Would have no hesitation in recommending.

our veiws of the international at ashford

my daughters & i have stayed at the ashford hotel for 3 years running in November each time, as we come up to do our christmas shopping in ashford. We have always been treated very well by the staff & found our room to be warm,cosy, & comfortable, & this was before the refurbishment. The use of the pool & suana was an added bonus & the breakfast was exceptional with a very varied choice.We are coming back again this November & this time there will be 4 of us we look forward to seeing the re-furb;

Go elsewhere if you can

This hotel has the potential of being really good. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the entire hotel is being repainted and the swimming pool complex is being refurbished (something they failed to tell us when booking or checking-in). However, the ineptitude of the staff let it down. We stayed one night and were given the wrong rooms, wrong keys, inaccurate hotel information, wrong bill, wrong directions and were repeatedly put on hold and then disconnected every time we rang the front desk. Every problem involved at least three staff members to resolve. We didn't bother eating in the hotel as we thought this would just involve more aggravation. Stay away until the staff are better trained.

s having the refurbishment

My partner and I had a wedding to go to at the hotel, and stayed there for the night. we had prevously stayed here about 18months ago when it was looking very dated and old.

On arrivial, we were escourted to our rooms by a very friendly porter. the rooms had had an "extreame makeover" and looked excellent.

When at the wedding it was very professionally set up and looked very modern. The staff were amazing, and interacted with us all the time. At one point I was talking to a young women for about half and hour!
The bar staff were also friendly, and they all were rushed off their feets, but stayed professional and made time for us.

Breakfast was equally great, and the food was appetising, and appealing.

I defintly think that after this refurbishment, the hotel will look amazing, and according to one of the waitresses the health club, which includes a pool, state of the art gym, and a health spa will be open in october, so i am defintly going to book for another room round about then!

Cannot Fault the New Makeover.

My wife and I stayed at the Ashford International for just the 1 night for a wedding that day in the area and have to say this hotel is well worth the money paid.

The hotel is located very conveniently for commuters as it is just off the M20 so getting there was very easy by car, I would guess for those without those means would struggle. Car parking is available at the front of the hotel but there are not that many spaces available I think for the size of the hotel itself.

We couldn't check in straight away when we got there as the room was 15 minutes away from being ready but needed to go to the wedding there and then so checked in fine when we got back in the early hours, this was before 2pm anyway so no complaints on that. Before going up to the room, we had a quick nightcap and although the bar was shut the staff were happy for us to sit in the reception area and have our drinks there and charge it to the room which I thought was very good as it was 1am. The bar from what we could see looked fantastic as this is now finished.

The room itself was on the 3rd floor and one that had been recently refurbished which was stunning. A combination of purples and wood set the decor very tastefully, a new black flat screen TV, a super soft double bed, subtle lighting and coffee and tea making facilities available. The bathroom was equally impressive, a laminate floor with wood effect with a bath with a powerful and easy to use shower. The view overlooked the inner courtyard area so was very quiet. In fact at no time could I hear any noise from any other room at all and the air conditioning is superb.

Breakfast was included in the price and at the time the restaurant is undergoing the continuing renovations which from the website says will be complete in October so they had set up one of their conference rooms as a temporary location which was fine. The choice of food was very large and included the full English Breakfast, cereals, pastries, juice........and was more than welcome after a heavy night before.

We paid £90 for the night which was also a discounted rate on the fact our wedding party had booked up 20 rooms in total which I thought was a fair price to pay considering all the amenities available as well as the comfort factor. On reflection I am glad we stayed here and would happily book again if we were in the area for something else.

Pleasantly surprised

Having read the bad reviews on this site I did not want to stay at this hotel and tried to find somewhere else but had no luck. I was really surprised at what I found.

I was give a refurbished room which I have to say was really nicely finished with a seating area and a widscreen samsung TV which has the option to buy films (a bit pricey). What I don't understand is when hotels have digital tv why they often only give you the usual 4 chanels and sky news. The decor is very modern with some very loud colours but It all worked together very well

The leisure club was closed on my visit but if it is finished to the standard of the rest hotel I am sure it will be very nice when it opens in October.

I did not bother with dinner but breakfast was ok, just standard large hotel self service stuff unremarkable really.

The only thing which I had a problem with was the bed it was much to hard for my taste, it felt ok when I sat on it but I hard a difficult night trying to sleep on it.

Not a 4* hotel!

from astle
This hotel may make it as a 4* when the renovation construction - which is major - is finished, but right now I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It's definitely not a 4* facility in it's present condition.
