Shockingly BAD

I have very little to say about this place other than its terrible. They have alledgedly been redecorating the place for years. The bedrooms are old, tired and ill cared for. (bulbs not working, window frames rotting etc)

The staff seem not to care at all and have a 'take it or leave it' attitude. You will get much better care in the local pub. This place is a stinker!

I really wish I had read the reviews on this site prior to booking. Unfortunately it was a last minute thing and the photos on the website looked good so I booked a room for £158 DBB.

It's not that the hotel was really awful but there's far better 4* (and 3*) hotels out there for a lot less money. The hotel is in a good location and has nice grounds but the building itself is a let down. On approaching the building it is evident that it has not been well maintained - the windows on the top floor are particularly grim and need attention. The reception area is small and unimpressive and the general cleanliness of the communal areas is poor. The stairs in particular looked as if they had not been cleaned for some time. I had asked for a top floor room (less noise) but this proved to be a mistake. There's no lift and it was a very long walk to my room with my suitcase. There was never any suggestion of a member of staff offering to help with luggage.

The room itself was particularly uninspiring. It was small, dark and desperately needs updating which is concerning as the hotel was apparently refurbished in 2005!!! I have stayed in far better rooms for half the price and can not think of anything positive to say about the room.

In fact the one positive about the hotel was the food. Dinner was very good but this too was spoiled by the number of tables squeezed into the dining room. I had hoped for an intimate dinner with my wife but ended up sitting closer to the couple on the adjacent table!!

I would not stay in this hotel again and if this is the sort of rubbish that Hilton offer then I will not be staying in any other Hilton hotels in the future.

Wow, read Trip advisor before we left and wasn't sure what to expect, as we haven't been for a long while, BUT they seem to have spent alot of money and really turned the place around. Compared to the last time we were there when the hotel was looking tired and run down, all the public areas are looking clean with new carpeting and furniture and the rooms are fresh and new too. We were really impressed with the decor and would DEFINITALLY return again soon! It was a wonderful break from the hustle of the big city and we recommend it to anyone who wants to get away for a relax!

Stayed just one night with wife and baby. when we checked in we asked for a cot to be delivered which it was - and promptly which was fine. Room size was adequate, bathroom nice and clean.

Leisure facilities pretty good - the pool was very warm, a good size too. Changing facilities were passable, but a bit council swimming pool like for my liking.... The golf course looked alright, but didn't have the time to play. Nice location of the hotel.

Bar prices not as expensive as I would have imagined, but then again, I guess they make up for that for the REALLY expensive room rate.

Hotel is old and in need of some tender loving care. Carpets were repaired with gaffer tape, many walls in the corridors were peeling and looking old and worn. Staff were pleasant though.

The worst hotel ever

Having paid through the roof for a 2 night stay at this Hilton Hotel (£155 per night), I was expecting quite a decent hotel (especially being a Gold card HH holder). How wrong i was. The room was basic, tatty and in desperate need of decoration. The entrance to our rooms from outside was meant to be via access by card only (we were in the separate garden courtyard), however this door was swinging open with no locks what so ever (what security)? No lighting around the car park meant a very hair raising walk and a few sprained ancles to go with it. We found out room overlooked the area behind the bar (where kegs were constantly being changed), the noise on the first night was acceptable (ish we didnt complain. However when we arrived back to our room expecting a quiet night on the 2nd day, there were 2 weddings taking place in the hotel (this i have nothing against but please advise the guests when they check in and dont ever mix the two). Having walked past the thumping music, we walked into our room closed the door and the noise was no different. All we could hear was the constant thud of the band downstaires. We then opened the window to let some air into the room only to be confronted by around 50 wedding guests standing drinking right below our window! Straight away we were on the phone to the manager. They moved us immediatly to another room admittidly (half the size of the previous room) whereby having tried to turn the lights on realised found they were broken. Finally we got to our third and final room (and hour and half later), luckily with no noise but again no change in style or decoration either. After having carryed our entire luggage set across the hotel (they sent a lad to help with no trolley) i couldnt wait to get out of the hotel the next day. Never again avispark and never again a Hilton...

And please do not stay at this hotel - I have had the misfortune to stay here several times as part of a conference and I'm afraid to say it's one of the worst hotels I have ever set foot in... Expensive (when not taking advantage of a special offer), staff are rude, facilities are terrible (outdoor Swimming pool closed, golf course awful) rooms are old and in need of a re-furb.

I have always liked hilton hotels but this is simply not up to the standard implied by the name - help yourself out and stay at a local B&B...far friendlier, far cheaper!!

Nice Break

I stayed at the Hilton Avisford Park in the week leading up to Christmas. The hotel was not very busy, but still had a nice atmosphere.

We had really nice deluxe rooms on the first floor with water, wine and chocolates replenished daily. The rooms were nicely furnished and lovely and warm.

The food in the Oaks restaurant was very good for both dinner and breakfast and the service was also very efficient (this may have been because the hotel was quiet)

The grounds were nice for a winter stroll and can imagine in the summer would be nice to relax in.

All in all a nice hotel and a great place to spend a couple of days.

what refurbishment?

The photos of the place look terrific. The truth is somewhat different. This hotel is dowdy and somewhat shabby. The blurb talked about an extensive refurbishment in 2005. I think that this was a typo, and the correct date was 1975. The bathroom suite wasn't quite avocado, but was a drab buff colour that I dated at somewhere around 1982 by the congealed hair located under the shower control. I had to remove the dead flies from the sash window while my wife wasn't looking as I was taking her on a treat weekend away. Our room overlooked a collection of old mattresses strewn in a yard presumably for disposal. The communal area carpets were a swirly green synthetic creation reminiscent of Fawlty Towers. We had to queue for an indifferent breakfast and our table hadn't been wiped. The whole experience wasn't absolutely terrible, it was just way sub-standard. Everything that could have been below par was. the worst thing is that the staff didn't seem to notice-or care. Hilton better send an inspector to this dump quickly, but it's probably too late to stop me shredding my Hilton Honors Card.

I have now stayed here 3 times on business, so my review is a good average!

Good

Staff are excellent- friendly, helpful and attentive. They always ask to carry your luggage to your room for you.
Bar area - very nicely decorated and nice place to sit.
Grounds and public areas. Well tended.
Breakfast - excellent, lots of choice and great quality.
Bedrooms facilities - nice products, TV has everything, beds are comfy, anything you ask for they help with.
Dinner - excellent food, nice atmosphere, helpful staff.
Great outdoor eating area for the summer.
Lots of space.

Needs work

Many of the rooms need a re-fit, and they are working on this. Best standard room is 200, where I was recently. Big with nice views. The one wing they are doing up is going to be the best.
There is no Air-con at all, so be warned for the summer.
Many of the windows only open a few inches for safety reasons.
The indoor and outdoor pools could be nicer - they need some TLC.
They are slowly refitting everything so when it's done it will be great.

Cannot comment on golf or other activities as have not had a chance to do them!

Top Local Tips for Arundel

visit the oaks resaurant This restaurant is only a short walk away from the hliton hotel. The dining room is lovely. The staff are friendly and helpful and the menu is very interesting using lots of fresh local produce. well worth a visit.

Riverside refreshments There is a refreshment kiosk on the riverside behind the farmers market area in Arundel. The wait to get served was horrendous (20 - 30 mins queueing) and some of the items purchased were stale & mouldy and had to be returned. In fairness they were probably overwhelmed with the customer numbers for the time of year (due to the weather) but there was just 1 young girl left to serve everybody - totally unacceptable!

Castle visit Go to the lovely castle, have lunch at the Black Rabbit in Arundel and if you want to splash out the George and Dragon in Burpham
