from A TripAdvisor MemberThe staff was very helpful, friendly, gracious. Maid service was terrific.
Food at breakfast and in the bar for a late night snack was excellent. We did find it unusual that food in bar was more expensive than room service (a reversal for us).
Our complaints were regarding the room. Rather small and, despite being in a new building, the room needed a lot of maintenance and refurbishment. Walls were very marked up and needed painting badly, light from lamps and single window was almost nonexistent so reading was borderline impossible in room, shower drain was clogged up, finally window could not be opened as latch was broken. As to design of room: there was no closet (only a pole hung above the desk rendering the desk unusable); no shelf in shower for soap, bathroom sink too far away to be able to use mirror above sink; an alcove with valuable space was unused; no proper place for television; headboard mounted on wall was designed for king sized bed but, since queen was installed, one night stand was so far away from bed it was impossible to reach it.
We felt that value was poor concerning the room.
Fabulous break

from RHaighThe Perfect Venue
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe Great Hall with its' Minstrels Gallery is a superb setting in which to exchange marriage vows, and the Topiary Suite was a perfect foom in which to hold the Wedding Breakfast and Evening Reception.
The food throughout the day was top quality, and the Hotel grounds and Topiary Gardens were a joy to behold, as were all of the facilities in the Hotel.
We stayed in the Bridal Suite (obviously!), which was very spacious and beautiful, but all of our guests that stayed overnight were most impressed with their rooms, and the Hotel in general.
From the very first initail contact with the Hotel, all of the staff were incredibly attentive and helpful, (and even helped us to persuade the local farmer to allow us to end our day with a firework display).
A suberb hotel with superb staff.
A great weekend
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe found the staff very helpful and the hotel building and setting were excellent. The food was very good and the staff were very helpful. Despite the fact there was wedding on both days we stayed, the service was quick and we were not affected by any noise. Indeed the weddings only added to the ambience. Our children are both 2 and the grounds were a great place for them to run around in and play hide and seek. They would also provide you with bottles of milk on a silver platter very quickly in the morning which stopped the kids complaining too much.
I would recommend staying in the old part of the hotel - we were in Room 1 which was above reception and was fantastic. I think if you asked for rooms 1 - 10 you would be staying in the oldest part of the hotel. The in-laws were in the more modern annexe part and while the rooms were fine they did not have the same atmosphere as the old rooms.
Th spa was good with a reasonably sized pool and very friendly staff, also had a good steam room and sauna though you could only fit 4-5 people in each.
The only downside was the restaurant service was what could only be descibed as comatose. Both nights we started a 3 course meal at 8.30 and did not finish until 11.30. Even for the French I am sure this is too long. However the eating areas, the restaurant and great hall, were both fantastic rooms to sit and eat in. Also my wife phoned up twice to request gluten free bread for one of our daughters and the message had failed to get through to the kitchen. However they did have some in for the next morning.
Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying for whatever reason, I think it is good value compared to some of the more widely touted country hotels. However do be fussy about which rooms you are staying in and chivvy along the waiting staff when having your evening meals.
Special Place
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe best ever
from A TripAdvisor MemberTry it for yourself but book an upgrade room as ccedar barn lodges quite contempory and less traditional.
What a disappointment
from A TripAdvisor MemberThread bare carpets and cold smelly bedrooms. Cobwebs. Only one vegetarian option on the menu. Staff, however, are attentive and polite. If the owners spent some money refurbishing the hotel, it has the potential to be amongst the best in the country. But until they do, I would advise you to stay elsewhere.
Lovely weekend break
from A TripAdvisor Membervery friendly staff
from A TripAdvisor MemberA great selection of food and wine, perfect food although it was the hotel staff that really were what made our stay - they were all very friendly, helpful and willing to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
Top Local Tips for Alcester
Shakespeare's Houses We bought a ticket which enabled access to all five of Shakespeare's houses for £14, I think that we would have felt ripped off if we had paid individual prices to each house as there isn't a great deal to see in some of them. We particularly enjoyed visting Ann Hathaway's cottage and Mary Arden's House.
Shakespeare swatting Obviously, you must visit all the Shakespearean attractions in the nearby vicinity. Go to the theatre if you can get in to see the top actors/actresses.
See some Shakespeare whilst you are there, but book well in advance! Try to see a Shakespeare play, but remember to book well in advance
