I went with my family (from Lebanon) to marmaris from august 4 till 11, 2009. My booking was done with Hmedeh travel agency with which we reserved a family room in Poseidon hotel. Upon arrival we were given a standard room with extra bed not a family room and the hotel staff claimed that it is the fault of our travel agency. The first thing to avoid in Marmaris is to exchange money at the airport (Dalman), you will lose around US$20 in every US$100 (it is advisable to exchange your money in the city which is full of change offices). We were then picked by ALBAKER tour from the airport and their guide (Saadia) kept on convincing us to reserve the Marmaris tours with her and claimed that all the tours are fully insured. My second advice is to avoid reserve your Marmaris tours with ALBAKER Tours because they are overpriced, low quality boats (old) and buses (check the tires) used, and are not insured at all (My son broke his hand in a boart trip with them and they declined that the boat is insured). All your trips inside marmaris can be purchased from the city center tourism agencies at a much lower price (average US$20/trip instead of average US$40/trip charged by ALBAKER tour) and with better quality. When we reached the Poseidon hotel, we felt that it is very modern from the outside and we liked a lot its location (on the beach) and its panoramic elevators; however the lobby was very small given the number of its rooms and the rooms were very small as well and not comfortable at all. The swimming pool is very small but you may substitute it with the beach. The food in the hotel is average; the sweets/fruits (quality/variety) offered with the dinner are below average. You have to pay extra for any drink including water with your breakfast and dinner at the hotel. Overall the hotel cannot be classified as a four stars hotel. Your expectations should be for a maximum 3 stars hotel.
Although Marmaris is an amazing place for a vacation, i don't recommend (based on my personal experience) HMEDEH travel (Lebanon) and ALBAKER TOurs (MArmaris). In addition, if you have a better option than Poseidon hotel, go for it.

When I was in Marmaris in May I handpicked this hotel as it looked clean and the location was spectacular, right on the harbour front, 20 minutes walk along the promenade from the hussle and bustle of Marmaris centre (which I find a bit overpowering).
Our room was quite small but it was very clean (I found it strange though that you only got a bottom sheet, no top one, maybe that's because we are English. The bathroom was spotless, plenty of hot water. Maid service & change of towels every day and they were very cheerful & always passed the time of day.
Breakfast was geared up for the European's and the Russians = apparently not a lot of english people stay there. After a week you got fed up with it really but you can get a good english type breakfast close by from £1 - £4.
The small swimming pool area is very clean and the shingle beach is right outside the hotel, the staff are really friendly and not pushy like they are in some hotels/bars along the promenade.
Lunchtime snacks were cheap and really nice.
You can not fault this hotel but the food is sometimes a bit boring.
Next door is a bar called Villa Sol which is a fabulous place to have fun, all ages, on a night time, they have loads of entertainment on, the staff are amazing and the food is very good. Try the Turkish Lamb Stew.
I would definitely go back there again
