Top Local Tips for Konya

Non-muslim women travelers Konya is one of the most religiously and politically conservative places in Turkey. Women wearing revealing clothing (even sleeveless tops or knee length skirts) will be stared at, and not in a good way. Pants are fine. You will need a head scarf for admission to the mosques and will be most comfortabel wearing one to the Mevlana Museum as well. It is a museum but it also has some sacred relics of Mohammed, so is visited by devout pilgrims. This was the only place in Turkey that we visited that I ended up wearing the scarf on the street. You do see scarfless women on the street, but not many.
