Good hotel in old city of Istanbul...

The Yasmak Sultan hotel is a very nice hotel in the historical area of Istanbul. The rooms are comfortable and good equipped. In the morning there is a breakfast buffet on the ROOF Restaurant overlooking the historical monument, as the Aya Sofia, the Topkapi Palace and the Bosphorus. The hotel gives you a home feeling because of the atmosphere and the friendly staff.
I did stay in Yasmak sultan hotel from 31 of December 2005 till the 11 of January 2006. The Sylvester party was wonderful and I will definitely come back for this.
I do recommend this hotel for a short break at any time of the year for everyone.

Excellent hotel, perfect location...

The Hotel Yasmak Sultan is an ideal hotel for anyone to be based on a visit to Istanbul. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the views from the roof top restaurant across the city are breathtaking. Its location means it is away from the noisy hustle and bustle of the main tourist streets but just a few minutes walk from the main tourist sites, Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I would definitely wish to recommend the hotel to other travellers as an excellent place to stay.

Yasmak Sultan - Ideal Old City Hotel

Just had 5 nts at the Yasmak Sultan Istanbul and it was the perfect hotel to explore the City, most major sites on the doorstep, wonderful views from the rooftop restaurant and bar, staff excellent, very clean, great food, reception will arrange excursions, free internet access, definately one of the best hotels in Istanbul where you feel the city.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at The Yasmak Sultan in early June 2006. While we had booked a double room, they gave us a suite ( directly over the front door ) which was large and quiet. We had a king bed and there was also a single fold out bed. The bathroom was large and brand new. We paid 479 euro for a 3 night package which included transportation to/from the airport, wine and fruit basket, one dinner at their rooftop restaurant ( Olive ) , half day city tour, half day Bosporus cruise and use of their own Turkisk baths. The rooftop restaurant is beauriful with views of the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. Breakfast is served there with fruit, eggs, meats, breads, olives yogurt, tomatoes and feta. There is also a bar in the lobby area ( as well as the rooftop ). There are 2 elevators and the hotel has free wireless in the rooms. The staff was most helpful and one bellman spent 1/2 hour programming my cell phone and solving some international call problems. All of the tours were prompt and well done on large air conditioned buses. We would stay here again, plus the location was fabulous.

After an amazing visit to Bodrum we came to the Yasmak Sultan Hotel. We were in town for our friend's wedding. The staff was rude and unfriendly even went as far to make fun of the little Turkish we knew. The only thing good about this hotel was the location. Internet was broken and breakfast was disappointing as were the views. They lost our luggage when we changed rooms and then the new room had a terribly loud air conditioner that kept us up all night. The phone at the front desk is not free for local calls. They charged us 9.50 TL for a 5 minute local call. If you value the wonderfully nice and friendly Turkish hospitality that we experienced everyone else in Turkey, I would pick another place.

good location, not a family hotel

We made reservations for the YasmaK Sultan over a month before our stay. The hotel provided very nice transportation from the airport. Upon check-in we were surprised to find that the hotel was not half as nice as the reviews posted on Trip Advisor. "Luxurious" is DEFINITELY not a word I would use to describe this hotel. It is very clean but VERY old and VERY small.

Granted, we had tried to squeeze the four of us (2 adults, 2 kids) into one room, but with a triple room and one extra bed, only one person could walk around at a time (no joke). The bathroom was clean, but again was very old and required a nice round of cleaning with tile mildew remover. Closet was about 2 feet wide and was about enough for one person. The room had only one other drawer where you could put your belongings. Even as a "triple" room this would be ridiculous.

The room was very musty and while the weather outside was very nice, the window provided little relief. We turned on the A/C for about an hour with no improvement. We checked with the front desk and found that the A/C had to be turned on and off centrally and since the weather was nice, they didn't see they need to turn on the A/C.

On our first outing the same evening as we checked in, we looked and found a wonderful hotel, very close by, for the same price. We checked out after the first night at Yasmak Sultan and stayed instead at the Celal Sultan.

Upon check-out, the desk clerk did not inquire as to why we were checking out after the first night of a 6 night reservation. He checked us out, didn't offer any assistance with the luggage and did not even offer a smile.

I would only recommend this hotel for the economy traveler, but at that price you can find much better! I would suspect that the majority of these reveiws online are those of the hotel staff and management as they totally do not mesh with what I saw with my own eyes.

Nice place, comfortable stay

We stayed 3 nights and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is comfortable, clean and the location just perfect. Although the rooms are not very large they are nice and have individual airco. The roof terrace with its view and atmosphere is just great. Can only recommend this place.

Finest hotel in historical Istanbul

I will always return to the Yasmak Sultan Hotel in Istanbul! It's in such a great location for sightseeing, shopping, the Tram and is also within walking distance to all the sea buses. It's the best "home--away from home" anyone could find in Istanbul. The sleeping rooms are clean and comfortable and the hotel staff is consistently friendly and helpful. The roof-top restaurant offers a wonderful view, serves quality food and their breakfast is the best. My friends and I have stayed in hotels all across Turkey and the Yasmak Sultan is still our all-time favorite. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

A comfortable stay!

My husband and I stayed 4 nights at the Yasmak Sultan. They were obliging enough to accommodate us when we arrived early in the morning. This enabled us to recover from our long flight before going for our evening walk and dinner. The frontdesk staff were friendly and helpful. The waiters of the terrace restaurant was always smiling and helpful. The room was average in size and clean, and the bathroom complete with modern amenities. There was a good spread for breakfast, too. The hotel is conveniently located - within walking distance to the famous historical sites e.g. Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, etc. I will recommend this hotel anytime.

I stayed at the Yasmak Sultan Hotel in March 06 for a period of 4 days. A very nice hotel - such friendly service, beautiful rooms, bathrooms and overall surroundings: Best base for sightseeing in Istanbul - Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Byzantine Hippodrome, Sunken Palace Cistern, the Istanbul Archeological Museums, Grand Bazaar are just minutes walk away...
If you are short of time in Istanbul and want to see as much as possible and stay in a nice place, definitely consider Yasmak Sultan Hotel...

Great location, lovely stay

My wife and I stayed here for four nights in March, 2006, at the end of two weeks traveling throughout Turkey. Everything about the hotel was highly satisfactory in our experience (and it was the only room during our trip where the air conditioning worked reliably). The nighttime view of Hagia Sophia out our 4th floor window was beautiful. The morning view of the city, including Hagia Sophia, from the roof top restaurant (excellent breakfasts) was a memory for a lifetime. The hotel was located in easy walking distance of most of what we wanted to see in Istanbul, and the streetcar line that could take us across to the Beyoglu section of the city was only a block away. If we have an opportunity to return to Istanbul, we will stay here again.

Very nice and quiet hotel near the most popular places in Instanbul. Very good food served in top roof restaurant with beatiful view to whole city and bridge.

Dirty toilet, Smelly room

The first thing that came into my mind as I stepped into my hotel room in Yasmak Sultan was, "DIRTY TOILET and SMELLY ROOM".

My room was soaked totally in cigarette smoke smell. I couldn't even breath properly and had to apply some medicated ointment on my nose to cover the smoke smell. Even my clothes are soaked with smoke smell on the next day. Yeewww....

There was a strip of paper on the toilet cover which claimed that the hotel management had disinfected the toilet. But, how could I believe that claim when that very strip of paper is stained and looked as though it had been used a million times? Also, if you look into the toilet bowl carefully, you can also see the sides of the toilet bowl have dirt of dark-brown color.

Also, the corners of the bathtub and walls, and edges of the sliding door covering the bathtub were dirty as well, with brown stains.

I am very fussy but I've been to hotels with only 3-stars that have rooms and toilet much cleaner than this. I really wonder how Yasmak Sultan can be a 4-star hotel.

My only regret is that I did not take any photographs of the condition of the room and toilet to back my claims. And, the reason why I did not take any photos was that I was too disgusted with the room. During my two week stay in Switzerland and Turkey, I took many photos of the room and toilet of hotels which I am satisfied of.

Top Local Tips for Istanbul

Shuttle bus We found that arranging our return to the airport in one the many little travel agencies in the city saved us about 60% compared with taxi.

Try restaraunts out of Sultanahmet Though there are a lot of restaraunts in Sultanahmet, majority are very "touristic", so for superb quality of food go out of historical area and face towards Taksim and business districts - ask locals for recommnedations.

YOU HAVE TO BUY A VISA!! When you arrive at passport control in Istanbul you queue endlessly to be told you need to buy a visa to go in your passport, these can be bought in the queue beyond passport control for (currently) £10, then you queue up all over again.......
