Beautiful with Amazing Views of Marmara

Stayed for 10 days.We were given a beautiful room with panoramic views of the Marmara. I would recommend, if you can, to spend the extra, the views amazing. I could see the Princess Islands from my bed. Coming from a busy city like Dubai, this was just what I needed for my vacation.
The breakfast was good enough, even after 10 days, we were not bored...thats saying alot since I travelled with a fussy teenager, and she was happy enough....Thanks for including the Simit...The breakfast room was hot at most times, we were told that we could eat breakfast on the rooftop, but it was too hot, so we skipped. I had the same view from my room anyway.
The spa is chargeable, reasonable but Excellent. I had a package treatment, the Hamam and a massage. The hamam is private so you can enjoy the experience in comfort. I have to confess, I was at some point out of my senses and just allowed the lady to do her thing....Amazin. If you staying, dont miss this experience. It was my birthday treat to myself and what a fabulous one. Had one before in Antalya, but this one was way better.
Also there is internet available in the spa area for guests, free of charge which is helpful.
All in all, a great hotel in a lovely location, minutes away from the Blue Mosque, Haga Sophia, etc.
Thank you Ms Zehra, sorry we didnt get to say Bye, and Mr Cenzig, and the wonderful housekeeping staff, always ready to assist with smiles on their face.
You made our visit soo very special.

We ended up staying at this hotel for our five days stay in istanbul. We had such a great stay. The staff were great, and so was the view from the roof ! Just amazing to see Hagia Sofia and the blue mosque from the terrase. The spa in the basement is fab, try it ! Me and my family really reccomend this hotel.

Historical Traveller Reviews of The Byzantium Hotel

from iateanapple
We spent 2 nights and the room was clean with seaview. However, I didn't feel comfortable with their staffs beacuse they appeared to be polite on the surface, but in reality they didn't respect guests at all.
The safety box in our room didn't work,so I asked to fix it right away or keep our valuables in their safety box in the front desk, but they said they didn't have any safety box and you had to wait for the mechanic staff. We'd stayed in our room more than 30 minutes for it.
It was really stressful.
And we had to pay at least 50 euro for their Hamam(Turkish Spa.)
Overall, we will never come back the Byzantium hotel anymore.
If we pay the same range of price,I think it's easy to find much better hotels in Istanbul.
Be careful!

Convenient Location

from EssexNut
We were a party of 6 and stayed 4 nights which included New Year. The location was very convenient as all the historical sites of Sultanahmet were within easy walking distance.
We had 3 double rooms which were not over spacious but were clean and equipped with the basics needs. (Hangars in the wardrobes were in short supply). Sounds from adjoining rooms can be heard through the walls and in summer with windows open street noise could be a problem.
The staff were friendly and helpful – the breakfast was the usual buffet style.
The street had plenty of restaurants so no need to go far to find good food. The restaurant next door was very good.
The hotel was good value for money and one of the best looking in the street and would therefore recommend it for a city break

We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed staying at this hotel.
The hotels' situation is absolutely perfect for seeing all the main attractions without having to take public transport.
The rooms were very clean, the breakfast good and the staff helpful.

Accomodation excellent, breakfast good, ideally situated within close walking distance to the main sights. Staff helpful.

Excellent Service and Hospitality

from pizzaboy99
Me and my husband spent 4 days in Istambul and stayed at this hotel which was very well located and served by the kindest and most efficient staff.

One night, outside the hotel, I fell on the street and made a very ugly cut in my hand. All the local people in the nearby area assisted me and helped me and my husband to get back to the hotel where the staff, paticularly Mr Erdal and Mr. Ibhraim took excellent care of me and rushed me in to the hospital to get stiches and stop the bleeding.

As the hospital didn't accept credit card and at the time we didnt have enough cash for the medical expenses, the hotel covered it all until were able to reimburse them.

Despite that minor incident, which could have occurred anywhere anytime, I am glad I stayed at the Byzantium Hotel because the service and availability were 5 stars and in a situation like this such quality is very important!

Thank you Mr Erdal and all the other members of the staff for your hospitality!

Comparable to a Holiday Inn

from MeAllOverTheWorld
The hotel was nice enough - average, clean. If you get a good value, its in a perfect area of town! They have light sensors everywhere so when you roam, lights are going on and off like a disco light show. Staff was friendly. English was fair. Spa, nice, but our expectations we're a little off. If you're interested in a haman, go elsewhere. If you want a private haman experience, go there. The restaurant immediately to the left of the hotel is excellent!

What a great time!!!

That was a pleasant stay!
Great location, great rooms, great breakfast!

But the best was the girl at the reception and the porter!
They were so helpfull that made our stay in Istanbul so easy.

They spoke very good english and booked many activities at some nice places for us.

Price was pretty good as well.

Well, if we return to Istanbul for sure we will stay there again.

We booked a room at the Byzantium on I have booked hotels with this site before without any issues. When we arrived in Istanbul, the Byzantium told us that their hotel was completely booked, despite the fact that we had confirmed reservations. They told us that they had booked us at a hotel around the corner and that that would be our only option since "all of the hotels in Istanbul were fully booked". I have travelled enough in my life to know that this is not true. So, we stayed at the hotel that the Byzantium booked for us (which ended up being lovely- see my review of Osman Han). Of note, The Osman Han was twice the price of the Byzantium!! However, the scamming didnt end there. After checking in to The Osman Han, the Byzantium called our new hotel room and told us we must pay THEM and that we need to pay BEFORE we stay, not in the morning because that's how they do things in Istanbul. As a side note, The Osman Han and the Byzantium are different companies and are not related in the business sense. Are these guys serious? It was unbelievable. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. It's the last thing you want to deal with after travelling all day to get to Istanbul.

Good location and friendly staff !

from hartej
We stayed 3 nights. The location was great !! All the historical sites of Sultanahmet were close by and walking distance.
Felt safe.

The rooms were very clean and room 406 had excellant view of
Bosphorus and sea of Marmara. Bathroom was modern .
Small plasma tv with European channels

The staff were extremley helpful. Could not ask for better service.
They helped by ordering us local taxi drivers and made sure that
we were not we were not conned or wripped off.!!
Taxi to the airport cost us only 30 Turkish lira for 3 persons.

The buffet breakfast was average with usual range of produce.

The experience was better then some of the other 4* hotels we stayed in Istanbul.
In a nutshell the hotel was good value for money and would have no hestiation in going there again or recommending it to a friends/other travellers.

Decent, but not ideal

from ShatzOnTheMove
I stayed at the Byzantium Hotel for 3 nights with my husband and parents during their opening weekend. Because it was their first weekend open, I was open-minded and willing to cut them some slack at first.

Our first room was on the first floor and was incredibly noisy-- I could hear the plates being set for breakfast in the morning from my bed. After sleeping there for one night, I asked to switch rooms and the manager was very sweet and took care of it right away.

[As a side note, the rooms are very small. There is no room to unpack luggage-- just a very narrow closet with a few hangers.]

The location of the hotel is IDEAL. Right in Sutanahmet, a very short walk to the Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, and Hagia Sofia. We were able to get cabs to other parts of the city rather easily, and my parents took the tram to the Spice Market from near the hotel.

My main complaint is that they were not very kind to my mother when she rightfully pointed out that the air conditioning in the rooms were not working, and that she shouldn't have to pay full-price for a room that didn't provide everything it advertised. My parents stayed at the hotel for 5 nights and asked each day about the air conditioning, only to be told that they were "working on it." I understand that it was their opening weekend, but they should be willing to be a little flexible with the price if everything is not in prime working condition.

The room also seemed a little overpriced for what it was. The management was very nice and caring except for the aforementioned incident with my mom. If they dropped their price by $50, fixed the AC, and managed to sound-proof their rooms, I would recommend this to friends. Otherwise, I feel fairly confident that you can get more for your money elsewhere.

[One last thing-- Istanbul is a great city. We had a wonderful time and I would love to return.]
