Loved location, staff and cleanliness

Early in May we had an enjoyable stay in Istanbul. We chose the Ottoman Imperial mainly because of its central location - we made the right choice.
Our room and bathroom, though not large, were most comfortable and also bright, quiet and very clean. The staff were delightful, always polite and could not have been more helpful.
Our only negative comment must be about breakfast which does need to be improved.
We hope to visit Istanbul again and we would definitely choose, and recommend to friends, the Ottoman Hotel Imperial.

Definitely not a 4-star hotel!

This is definitely NOT a 4-star hotel – at a push this is low 3-star class hotel. Here are my comments on the various features:

Rooms: Our room was located 2 floors below the lobby i.e. underground/basement. It was extremely dark and our view was that of a wall. The rooms itself was tiny (but I guess this is the case in all hotels in Sultanahmet). The rooms are so small that if you open up your suitcase – there is no room to walk around. There was a strange odor very noticeable on the entire floor. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything going on in the rooms next to you (TV, toilet flushing, etc.). The first room we checked into had not been cleaned/serviced. Called the front desk and they promptly moved us to the room next door. In this room, I noticed hairs on the duvet and pillows but since I had already complained the first time, didn’t say anything about this. For the price, the overall quality of the room was quite disappointing. This is not the type of the room you could spend any time in or relax. I moved to Point Hotel in Taksim today – another 4-star hotel which is a huge improvement and at the same price there is no comparison of the two. Granted the location is not ideal but I would rather pay a few extra $$ for taxi.

Bathroom: The bathroom is also incredibly small – there is no room to put any toiletries anywhere. The toilet wasn’t fixed properly to the floor. It wobbled when you sat on it and had a slow leak.

Service: Have to say service at this hotel was excellent! Every single member of the staff was extremely friendly and courteous.

Location: Location of this hotel is ideal for visiting all the tourist locations in Sultanahmet. It is right next to the Aya Sofya and less than 5 min walk to Topkapi Palace and Blue Mosque.

Wonderful staff and terrific hotel

The Ottoman Imperial Hotel is a fantastic place with the most helpful staff. We loved our stay there and recommend it highly. The rooms were spotless although the room sizes vary. Definitely ask for a room with a view on the 2nd or 3rd floors and try their dinners on the terrace -- we had a surprisingly good meal there on our last night. On our second stay there before heading home the staff warmly welcomed us, remembered us, and gave us an incredible room upgrade. A wonderful experience in every way.

A Perfect Restoration

The Ottoman Hotel was restored perfectly. It demonstrates good design and tasteful furnishings. As others have said, the location is simply perfect. Across the street from Ayasofia, but on a quiet street. The tramway is just a couple of blocks away and with an "Akbill," their metrocard, you can go all over the city. The staff at the hotel are all very friendly. The desk staff never wavered in their desire to assist you in any way. We stayed there for one week, but couldn't get reservations for our last 3 days in Istanbul - we were traveling around the country - and stayed somewhere else for those days. Acceptable, but not the quiet sophistication of the the Ottoman Hotel. My only complaint is that morning coffee is the often-used Nescafe, a tasteless beverage so different than Turkish coffee. There's an elegant restaurant around the corner, Sarnic. Don't eat there. While the setting is quite spectacular the food is expensive and second rate.

Great hotel in an Amazing location!

I recently spent 7 nights in Istanbul at the Ottoman Hotel Imperial. My room overlooked the Aya Sophia Museum which was really an added treat. My room was large and nicely decorated. However, a lamp on the desk would have been a welcome addition. The bed was very comfortable and there extra pillows in the wardrobe which I appreciated. All the rooms are equipped with free wireless internet access. The bathroom was spotlessly clean and there were always extra towels. Although, the bath/shower is a little high which makes it a bit difficult to climb into.
The staff was very friendly, helpful and courteous didn’t try to sell tours, etc. Breakfast was served in their downstairs dining room and was better than average. There were the usual cheeses, tomatoes, cucumbers and yogurt as well as several cold cereals and there was always fresh fruit on the buffet.
The location of the hotel is outstanding. As mentioned before it’s right next to Aya Sophia. So of course it’s also near the Blue Mosque, Bacilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace and Archeology Museums and numerous other attractions. It’s also an easy walk to the Spice Bazaar and fairy terminals. The Sultanahmet tram station is also quite close.

The hotel is very well located in Sultanahmed in the direct surrounding of important tourist attractions.
The staff was very friendly and correct., good service.
Rooms are nicely decorated.

Nice hotel, terrible room

On the whole, the Ottoman Imperial is a charming hotel with a fabulous location, but my husband and I were given a tiny room, with no view and a foul smell coming from the bathroom sink. Apparently, the cleaning staff believe dusting is a waste of time. Getting in & out of the small bathtub/shower was quite a feat. The breakfast buffet was nothing to write home about, either. All in all, we were quite disappointed.

Lovely hotel, staff so helpful and friendly. rooms beautifully clean and newly decorated. in it former life is was a Ottman school.
We had a standard room and the bath for me was a problem, it's is only a half bath and has a shower screen, getting in and out quite tricky and quite high from the ground. I don't think that all the rooms are the same.

You are within a 5 minute walk of the Blue mosque and 10 minutes to the Spice Bazar
Breakfast was the usual continental, good coffey
The tram station is 5 minutes walk away, and will bring you down to the boats on the sea front. Its not a city for high heal shoes, all cobbles.
A Taxi from the airport cost under 30 lire about 15euro and took25minutes late at night.
We got a good deal at 84euro per night for the room and breakfast included

This place is right in the heart of Sultanahmet, & right next to Agia Sofia, so locationwise it is wonderful. They have a great selection of tours that you can chose to go on. Its an interesting place, the hoards of cats outside make it a memorable place.

Grungy!

We stayed at that hostel for a couple of days in August 2004... and were really NOT impressed! The carpets and the wallpaper were really grungy and repulsive - we put some of the blankets on the floor to walk around. The beds were ok, we had a nice view of Saint Sofia right across the street, and it was pretty well located, but that's about it. It's also party/drinking Ozzies Central: we heard a lot of noise late one night, only to find fresh puddles of vomit in the stairs, on the walls, and plugging the only sink in the floor's washrooms... lovely. We asked to put our bags in the "storage room" on the last day, so we could do some sightseeing before catching our plane: the surly, gen - X front staff dude unlocked the door, then left us alone in there for 10 minutes, we could have stolen everything in sight... when we came to tell him we were done, he barked that he'd go lock the door "when he had a minute" (not that he was doing anything!) and we hung around until he finally did it, another 10 minutes later... safe indeed!!! We travelled all over Turkey, and that was definitely the worst accomodations we've been to... Skip it!

Absolutely Amazing Hotel I have just returned from a 10 day visit from Istanbul, as a frequent business traveller whom has stayed in the some of the best hotels in world, I can clearly say this hotel has not let me down..if I go again I am definitely going to Ottoman Hotel Imperial to Stay. We got picked up from the airport on the correct time. we realised at the point that our service would be excellent as we were greeted by the driver and an administrator from the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel, our room was a little to small with a distant smell coming from the bathroom. the following day we asked for a different room and we were given one at that evening..our new room was great much better in size, and another excellent view. The hotel staff are Superb very friendly, very clean and the services are just great. Hotel is situated with walking distance to all the great attractions and you will not be using the taxi for anything.- the hotel is probably the closest hotel to the Aya Sophia and Blue mosque. A great choice and I just want to thank Ottoman Hotel Imperial for making our stay one of the best.. :)
