Top Local Tips for Istanbul

lots of ways to get around Istanbul has plenty of inexpensive,interesting ways of getting around town. There are cabs,buses,underground and two trolley services,all service central Istanbul and outlying suburbs. the place to get transportation easliy is Taksim Square,the heart of town. There is a trollye that travels up and down Istiklal to Tunel(at the bridges crossing the Golden Horn),where you can get ferry boats on the Bosphorus),a wonderful metro undergound,fast,clean,and cheap. The other trolley is in SultanAhmet,across the horn,service is inexpensive also,and covers all the tourist attractions.the cars are blue,easy to spot,and the tram goes to the airport as well. Purchase a jeton at the booths and hop on. although the signs are in Turkish,getting around is no problem. The stop for getting back across the GOlden Horn is Aksaray,and on to the metro. Buses are abundant and for easy access,purchase an "akbil" at booths in Taksim square. There is also a metro station in the square.Cabs are yellow and green.

Do Visit the restaurant at Zeyrexhane wonderful place artefacts magnificant check taxi's have the meters on or ask the price first also use the metro and the sightseeing bus from Suttanmhet.

Two tips 1) Seeing the big sights? Start early - like, when they open - at 9am. By the time we left Topkapi Palace at 11.30 a.m. the place was mobbed by cruise-ship tourists. 2) Istanbul has lots of different types of public transport but it's all rather disjointed. Most useful is the 'tramvay' that crosses Galata Bridge, but expect standstill traffic jams anyway. Best way to get around? Walk.
