Historical Traveller Reviews of Hotel Mina
Not a 4 star
from Naz68The Breakfast was OK typical Turkish fare. The staff were not very friendly, but reception staff were helpful and friendly.
The great thing about the hotel is the location which is steps from the Blue mosque and other main historical monuments. The view from the breakfast room is fabulous as well.
Wonderful Experience in the heart of Sultanahmet
from AussieDutchTravelerAs a small hotel, with only 5 floors and a small number of rooms you feel very intimate with and welcomed by the staff, who appears to know you by name and will go out of the way to greet you and ask how your day was after a long day sightseeing.
The hotel offers local tour booking, but when we informed them of a more speciliased tour we were planning into Turkey they went out of their way to get us in contact with a local travel agency, they rang ahead to inform them of our plans and needs, and they even organised a porter to walk us to the travel agent, who organised a wonderful itenary for us.
The location of this hotel could not be better, right in the heart of things. Our room, and the breakfast room did promise some good views. The views were good but in all fairness we had to stretch our necks a little bit to see the Blue Mosque (but nothing that caused us major neck physical problems!) The views on the sea of Marmara and the boats waiting to enter the Bosphorus are very pleasant indeed. When we returned to Istanbul after our travels into Turkey we regrefully were notified that the hotel was fully booked - which was a shame as we would have happily stayed another few nights at this small botique hotel.
Pretty Nice Hotel
from KimSW3Perfect stay
from SugarZBeautiful view of the Bosphourus during breakfast due to a great top floor restaurant.
Breakfast was excellent, with a lot of choice and good quality food.
Rooms were very clean, and also very quiet (very important thing in Istanbul !!! )
I surely recommend the mina boutique hotel in Istanbul

from suziw?ce of hotel
from maisonrosegoultI just read the honeymoon rev?ew and d?d not exper?ence the poor clean?ng serv?ce they ment?on (more to follow) as our sheets and l?nens were changed da?ly and the room was always fresh when we returned from tour?ng. The one except?on was the day that my husband forgot to remove the DO NOT DISTURB s?gn from the door knob. We got a note ?n Engl?sh expla?n?ng why they had sk?pped our room.
Our room was small but had plenty of storage and only one l?ttle flaw ?n that the d?verter knob on the bathtub fell off when I dec?ded to soak and ran water forcefully ?nto the bath tub.
There are two th?ngs that I would note that m?ght not be so good (I don t th?nk we had one of the good rooms-but our travel compan?ons had a larger room than ours -?t had shower ?nstead of tub perhaps allow?ng for extra space) and I would say that th?s lower floor room d?d not have good a?r c?rculat?on. I seemed to be e?ther cold or hot dur?ng the n?ght.
Also I found the breakfast the usual stuff for Turkey (d?d not try the ju?ce but ?t looked terr?ble though you could order and pay for fresh squeezed orange ju?ce wh?ch was a reasonable cost). There was a select?on of lunch meats and two to three k?nds of cheese, bo?led eggs, usual soft ?tal?an style bread, butter, jams, honey, etc plus the usual tomatoes and cucumbers and ol?ves. Corn flakes and m?lk were on offer as well as some fresh and dr?ed fru?ts and yoghurt. Tea and coffee were good and ?n fact much better than out ?n the country (we have been ?n Turkey for three weeks now). The staff ?n the d?n?ng room was sl?ghtly overworked and ?t seemed l?ke the sweet female was welcom?ng and helpful wh?le the two cute guys ?n the d?n?ng room spent the?r t?me look?ng at themselves ?n the m?rror--they d?dn t sm?le at the guests!!! The f?rst n?ght we were at the M?na we had dr?nks at the 6th floor bar w?th great v?ews but the g?n and ton?c was loathsomely poor value. St?ck to Efes beer ?n Turkey ?s my adv?ce!
The 6th floor bar restaurant ?s not outdoors but has b?g w?ndows that sl?de open and have lovely v?ews mostly of the Blue Mosque and the Sea of Marmara. I m?ssed the outdoor restaurant l?ke we had one t?me at the Nomade and aga?n at the Ambassador.
We pa?d about 60 EU n?ghtly for our room and booked through an ?nternet s?te. It ?ncluded double room and breakfast.
Location, location, location
from Luther88This is more a 3 star than the claimed 4 star.
The location is perfect! Every sight is within walking distance.
We stayed for 4 nights upon arrival in Turkey and 3 more nights before departure. They kept a suitcase for us for the 10 days between the 2 stays.
The rooms are very small for 2 individuals to open suitcases.
The views from the rooms we got 406 and 501 are so so.
Breakfast was not memorable.
BUT whatever shortcomings the rooms might have were made up by the extremely warm, friendly and helpful staff especially the front desk personnel.
Top Local Tips for Istanbul
Hotel Transfer Get a hotel transfer if possible. The taxis are a bit on the dodgy side, sometimes taking you longer routes or get stuck in traffic. Hotel transfer should cost approximately 20-30 Lira from airport to historical centre (Sultanahmet).
Beware of taxis Some taxi drivers will intentionally seem as if they are lost so they can keep the meter running and charge you more for your trip if they think they can get away with it. When you need to take a taxi to your hotel take a hotel card with the address on it, also try to note any landmarks near to where you are staying.
always give exact change! never give over the the price allocated on the taxi meter, more than half the time they will say they don't have change or ask if you want change back. PLUS if u see a shoe cobbler drop his brush don't pick it up! we got conned by one who wanted to 'repay' us for our kindness by shoe-shining our shoes then demanded we pay 40 liras! We would have been obliged to give him more if he didn't try to con us.
