nice rooms but bring your earplugs!!

from madladyandme
Nice rooms and bathrooms!! Good space and lots of nice amenities. Spa and pool very nice. But......... and this was a but, It was so noisy that is was difficult to sleep. There is a bar on the top floor that has live music that carries down to your room, also if you dont get a river view you are overlooking an industrial roof top. Nice!! the food was expensive and is worth walking up the street a few blocks instead!! If you're looking for a relaxed time I would think twice about this hotel.

Bedbugs, beware!

from Eli9182
I was on a business trip for three days in Hilton Istanbul. The hotel was otherwise nice and good quality, but I found bugs on the first day from the room! I killed 3 and didn't find more after careful examination. Next day I found one more from the ceiling but didn't manage to catch it due to the ceiling height. Having stumbled into bedbugs once earlier, I didn't manage to sleep pretty much at all the first night. Overall, the hotel seemed to be tidy but there is something terribly wrong in housekeeping if you find bugs from the hotel.

Great service at the Hilton but, overall, not worth the price

from Grenouillesansleau
This was my sixth trip to Istanbul and the fourth Istanbul hotel at which I've stayed. The Hilton was booked for us by the organisers of a nearby conference. Our accommodation was paid for because I was a speaker. We enjoyed our 4-night stay at the Hilton, but, overall, do not think that the experience was worth the price (someone else) paid.

What we enjoyed most about the Hilton was the service. Almost all of the staff we dealt with were exceptionally friendly, helpful and pro-active. For example, just after we arrived, we stopped by the Concierge's desk to ask for a map. He was busy dealing with a client on the phone and wasn't able to help us immediately. He smiled and mouthed an apology but needed to focus on the call. We realised we could get a map from the check-in desk, so collected one and left the hotel. While we stood outside the hotel to look at the map and get our bearings, the Concierge came jogging out of the hotel looking for us. He apologised again for not being able to help us and then asked what he could do. We explained that we had walked away not because we were frustrated but because we'd realised we could ask someone else for help. His pro-active attitude was typical of the way we were treated throughout our visit - everyone seemed to go out of his or her way to be friendly and helpful.

The room itself was large and reasonably comfortable. There was a good desk designed for work. The bed was hard, but the pillows were soft and a pillow menu was offered. We had a room with a rather unappealing view - toward the banquet hall roof. This was somewhat problematic on Sunday evening, where a very loud wedding celebration kept us awake for an hour or so. We also noticed that the soundproofing between rooms was inadequate. We could hear the person in the room next door sneezing (a lot), moving around - and the television kept us awake. It wasn't turned up particularly loud - but there was no soundproofing.

I preferred the location of this hotel to the hotels I've stayed at in Taxim Square (e.g. the Marmara) because the area is not as loud or chaotic. It was an easy walk to Taxim Square, though, when we wanted to go sightseeing. We also appreciated the fact that the cabs that are allowed to pick up guests at the hotel are screened and monitored by the hotel. This was particularly important when I had to race from one conference to another one, at a location with which I wasn't familiar. The doorman made sure that the cab driver knew exactly where he was going - and I was delivered exactly where I needed to go. (I've taken enough taxi rides in Istanbul to know that it is easy for visitors - and cab drivers - to get lost.) The only word of caution - don't accept a taxi driver's recommendation to take you the "so-called slightly longer but faster" route to the airport, unless you're really pressed for time. The route is probably at least 1/3 more expensive - and we had time to spare and getting struck in traffic for a while wouldn't have been the end of the world.

We skipped the expensive breakfast in the hotel and, instead, ate almost every morning at Mato, where the friendly cafe owner and his staff provided excellent, simple breakfasts. Borsa, the restaurant attached to the conference centre, is worth the splurge. Although I do not normally go out of my way to eat at restaurants attached to hotels, I made an exception in this case because it was highly recommended by my Turkish business colleagues. The restaurant lived up to its reputation. The food and the service at this relatively formal, low-key and elegant restaurant were superb.

Would I stay here again? Yes, gladly - but only if I was travelling on business and someone else was paying for it.

Really good hotel overall

from mark1000
We had an excellent stay at this Hilton. The hotel has really nice public spaces and a good terrace overlooking the river and city.

-Standard rooms are a good size - ours was at least 35-40m2. Ask for one overlooking the river and you will have a great view.

-The rooms are modern inside and all you expect from a Hilton. Bathroom was a good size. Room was serviced several times a day - but you never felt hassled by staff.

- Breakfast downstairs was actually really good and included in rate.

-Staff were really helpful on tips of where to go and even lent me $50 when my card broke.

-Business facilities really good. Wireless across hotel.

-Leisure facilities a little old and pool fairly small - hard to do lengths. But gym ok if you need to exercise - my advice go eat great Turkish food and walk around...

- Location - 5min walk to Taksim Square and great shopping and food. However, a good 15 minutes cab ride to the historic island - however not much in way of accomodation over that side and we always found it very easy to get a cab and would then spend the day seeing sites - and of course cabs are v cheap.

Nice western style hotel

from livin2travel
Stayed for 4 nights at the end of a trip through Greece and Turkey. The hotel is located in the New City in walking distance to Taksim square and a pleasant walking street. There were good restaurants within walking distance and the entire city via taxi.

The location is not the best for visiting the major sights in Istanbul but a short taxi ride took care of that. Peak traffic times should be avoided.

The restaurant and bar are overpriced but the views are very nice. The room was comfortable but nothing special. It is what you would expect from an American style hotel chain.

There was a major conference going on next door but the staff was successful in minimizing the impact on other guests.

Beautiful and Safe Hotel

from capturedplanet
We stayed at the Istanbul Hilton for 5 days in August. We had a room that overlooked the Bosphorous. It was an incredible view and the room's amenities were no less. The service in the hotel was excellent as was the food at the Terrace restaurant. The pool was nice as well. Guests pass though metal detectors before entering the lobby. This gives some sense of security as does the fact cars need to pass though a "checkpoint" where the security guard checks the vehicles. The concierge's recommendation for dinner at Feriye in Ortakaoy was right on the money. Feriye is right on the bank of the Bosphorus and has incredible food. Check out the House Cafe in Ortakoy for drinks. We had a great stay at the Hilton.

Beautiful hotel in gorgeus city

from curiosa
My daughter and I stayed in this hotel for 5 days, I had business to do and she just enjoyed the fabulous pool. Rooms are large and clean. Ours had a spectacular view of the Bosphorus. The bathroom was very impressive. Breakfast was an experience by itself. Don't miss the cherry juice- freshly squeezed! Other meals were rather expensive. The staff were VERY attentive and quick. Everybody was helpful and they knew what they were doing. I especialy appreciated the way they handled the mix up of my reservation. I was listed as "Peruvian", not my last name. They gave us a room anyway- at 2 in the morning- and sorted it out the next morning. There are some shops in the ground floor which are fun to look at. Location is also very convenient, near Taksim Square- where public transportation is available and a very short walk away from the Lufti Kirdar Convention Centre.

good hotel

from taniabh
We used to live in Turkey so we have stayed in all the major hotels in Istanbul. So I would like to add my comments about this one.
We booked an excutive floor room which i would recommend if you can, it includes buffet breakfast and drinks in a lounge on the 8th floor - also snacks in the evening. The service was very good anything we asked for in the room like plugs came super fast. Each day they put a plate of a different type of fruit which is a nice touch.
The hotel is 51 years old , the first big hotel of the city so it is very open and a nice swimming pool in gardens. The room is clean and fine, bed is very hard but that was ok for me,not very glamours, bathroom is older but acceptable - if you want to see a de luxe bath then check into the ritz carlton this is by far the best i have seen in Turkey beautiful blue tiles and huge with bath and glass shower separate and toilet behind it's own door and 2 sinks (but this hotel has a tiny tiny pool).
Last year we stayed at the Ciragan, the rooms are looking a little worn now and the staff are ,and they food poisoned me with a $28 hamburger by the swimming pool , making me sick for the rest of my trip,so this year we wanted to give another hotel a try.
I was pleased with the stay at the Hilton, it was totally full but the service was good which is impressive and i am a fussy hotel guest. Location is good you can walk to Takism, and hotel has nice view.
One warning the excutive floor claims to have internet which it does one computer in the lounge you can use for free, in your room you have to pay $30 a day which is a lot if you have to pay and not your company!

Great hotel with a great view

from dunyayi_dolasan_adam
I was in Istanbul for business and stayed 2 nights in this hotel. I have stayed in different hotels in Istanbul and this was my first stay at Hilton Istanbul. I booked a normal room for me and my work colleague from the internet. Only I had an Hhonors card however, we were both upgraded to an executive room with a sea view, which was very nice and both have appreciated this nice gesture from the staff.
The rooms were very specious and had a great view of the Bosphorus. The bathroom was in marble and very clean, as you would expect from a 5star hotel. It also had an espresso machine (you do not find often facilities to make your own coffee and tea in Turkish hotels). The hotel was celebrating their 50th anniversary and I learned that it was the first Hilton in Europe, which explained in a way the architecture of the hotel (looks old without any style). However, the inside of the hotel looks very modern, light and luxurious.
The hotel is within walking distance from Taksim square and at 15min with a taxi (outside of rush hour) to the Topkapi , Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophie.
The staff were very nice and helpful. The food at breakfast at the executive floor was great and the view was amazing. Only a few hotels have such a nice view of the Bosphorus and Hilton is one of them. We also had the opportunity to take our breakfast on the ground floor as we had to leave at 6am on the last day. The open buffet had everything you can think of and I am sure it will even please the fussiest eater.
Also, I had a room service on the first night and the gnocchi was delicious. The dish cost 15 YTL + 7 YTL service charges, total 10 GBP. I did not find the food too expensive for a room service but when you add the service charge it became overpriced.
As every 5 star hotels in Istanbul the extras: alcoholic drinks, mini bars etc, are astronomic. Before you get anything from the mini-bar check the prices!
Unfortunately we did not have a chance to use the leisure facilities, but they look very nice.
Overall, we were both very pleased with the service that we got, the hotel is very nice and I would recommend a sea view room. The rooms are not cheap but when you see the view you understand how they can justify the price. I will definitely stay there again and recommend this hotel.

Good (Not Great) Hotel

from kcg2002
We stayed three nights in the Istanbul Hilton in early June. The rooms are very comfortable (and they should be for the price!). The bathroom was excellent- by far the best of any we saw in Turkey. The bed was large and comfortable. Our room had a balcony but no views of anything of note.
The Hilton is in walking distance of Taksim Square and the fun shopping/dining-centered streets that radiate from it. Luckily there are plenty of small, reasonably priced restaurants nearby, because the food at the hotel is wildly expensive! It was especially galling that breakfast cost 15 euros minimum, since everywhere else in Turkey it is included in the room rate. Drinks at the hotel bar were similarly expensive, for example about 10 euros for a vodka tonic.
One great thing about this hotel is the gym. It is very modern, with a well-equipped weight room plus a cardio room with elliptical machines, treadmills, and bikes. Headphones are supplied so you can watch the TVs and there are staff members on hand. The hotel also has an indoor jacuzzi, a fairly large outdoor pool, and an outdoor jogging track (although with Istanbul's pollution, you may not want to run outside).

Top Local Tips for Istanbul

Great Bar / resturant Go to bar resturant called vogue, about 5 lire in a cab from the hotel, great views and excellant food

Maiden's Tower Try to have dinner here!!! This place is amazing. You can only get to it by boat, and if you're staying on the European side of Turkey, by coming here you are actually in Asia!

Don't miss this! Brink your swim trunks - a great pool and free entry for hotel guests! Superb food in Veranda & Manolya restaurants; great breakfast in lobby level.
