Historical Traveller Reviews of Erguvan Hotel

loved istanbul

from A TripAdvisor Member
ihave just stayed 6 nights in this hotel in Istanbul.
I would highly recommended it for a few reasons. First The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful, as I had lost my wallet before I left the UK and they helped sort me out. The rooms were clean warm and cleaned daily. They had a wonderful breakfeast (with real coffee) on the roof terrace with wonderful views of the bosphores and Blue mosque. there were lots of fresh rolls, turkish tea meats fruit, youghrts all in a very nice setting. It is bang in the centre of the Old City a stones throw from the Blue Mosque, topaki palace Haggia sophia etc, So I would highly reccommend this hotel if you want to be submurged in th Old istanbul.

Quiet and family hotel...

from macavigo
We (three friends of Spain) stayed at Erguvan Hotel for a week last November (we also stayed at Dersaadet for two days, you can read our review...).

I was a bit worried about the noise, so I asked for a quiet room, I we got it!!! Not very near the stairs neither the lift...

Although the decoration is not awesome, it's very nice, and it makes you feel like at home.

Room was very clean (and warm... considering that the week we were in Istambul it rained all days, and also snowed!!!).

Breakfast is good, of course it's not a 5 star big hotel buffet, but it was enough for us. It was a turkish breakfast: tomate, olives, bread, cakes, cheese....

Staff was nice, but I have to say, not as nice and helpful like the staff of Dersaadet. Don't forget (if you pay in cash) for your discount... (they seem to forget their offer sometimes...).

We loved to arrive in the evening after having dinner, and chat a bit with the other guests (we met some guys from Sri Lanka making a university project!!!).

The truth is, that I would consider to repeat Erguvan again. The price was great (54 Eur per night paying in cash!!!) and the situation is really good (three minutes from everything...).

Nice Hotel

Nice clean comfortable hotel. Very convenient to major attractions such as Haghia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Basilica Cistern; one can also walk to the Grand Bazaar and Suleymaniye Mosque. Staff of hotel are very friendly and helpful (e.g. in assisting with restaurants, shows, taxis). Would strongly recommend it.

Erguvan exceeded our expectations!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Erguvan exceeded our expectations! First, the location is great--just a few blocks to the Blue Mosque and the center of things to see. Second, the staff was helpful with good recommendations. We had a party of 12, and they helped us all with any request. Third, the view from the terrace, where we had a lovely breakfast, was breathtaking--the water and Blue Mosque. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Tell Gokay we sent you!

Quality-price relation excellent

Stayed there for 4 nights. The hotel arranged for a free pick up service from airport for free, that was a nice treat. Stayed in a standard room number 37 that compared to others in the same floor when open for cleaning purposes ours seemed to be much better. There was no view as was facing the back, but was very silent (except at prayer time very early in the morning, of course) and despite it was just next to the elevator. Also we had a sitting area with a small two seater sofa with a coffee table, so was kind of a"suite". Mattress was firm, room was perfectly cleaned everyday. Bathroom is modern, with screen instead of courtains. Room spacious enough, everything in working order including good hot water pressure. Towels changed everyday. Light to medium coloured furniture that was pleasant to the eye, just as it looks in the pictures (no surprises). Better rate found directly with the hotel. And yes this is not the Ritz, breakfast is not the best in town as choice was repetitive, but the views from the terrace make up to it. Taking into account the price, its location, facilities and the unobtrusive staff we were really happy to have chosen this hotel thanks to other people's reviews here and would definitely recommend it, at least the room we had.

Above Average

Service wise, This is a good hotel but not a great hotel. I found the hotel staff more civil then friendly and they were helpful enough. They had thoughtfully provided free wireless internet access which was great. Also the hotel has a lift, very helpful for all our heavy luggage.

The location was pretty good. From the rooftop terrace, we had views of the Mamara Sea and the Blue Mosque. The Blue Mosque, the Topkapi Museum, Aghia Sofia were all within walking distance. Like an earlier reviewer (whose reviews we read), we would be happy to stay there again if we are unable to find something better.

Very good hotel, great location

from Rusky
This hotel is good. Very clean and a great location very near to the Blue Mosque but also not too noisy - great insulation on the windows. It has a roof top terrace which is good for breakfast and gives a great view of the mosque and the water. It is in a good location although you need to walk uphill to get to the Grand Bazaar - but it really is not that far. The guys who run it are very helpful, although they do push the tours, and their carpet seller - obviously they get kickbacks.

The only thing that I think could be improved with this hotel is the breakfast, which is included in the price, as it was the same everyday without exception. Only one type of cereal, one type of bread and only one type of fruit (although that did vary from watermelon-grapes). There were other things like eggs, cake, yogurt but..... It really wouldn't cost much for this to be improved. Fruit is cheap I think ,and it would be nice to have a fruit platter, or even a basket of different fruit.

All in all, I would stay at this hotel again. It was good value for money - but why do Istanbul hotels all charge in euros when they aren't part of the EU yet??

OK but nothing special. You can do better.

We only stayed here because the Dersaadet (cf) messed up our reservation and this was a place that had rooms for the nights we needed at short-ish notice. It's not expensive, but you get what you pay for.

We had pre-booked (and had confirmed) a baby's cot. We got there: no cot; they have two cots but one was broken and the other had been given to another guest who had turned up with a baby but who had not pre-requested a cot. Had they gone out and bought or borrowed another one? No they had not. We were brought a put-you-up folding bed that would cripple anyone who slept on it and given the vague promise of trying to borrow one tomorrow (the baby slept in one of our beds in the end).

The rooms stank of previous users' tobacco smoke and we had to leave the windows open for hours for it to clear. A broken soap-rack was reported but not repaired. Above all, the place is NOISY, not so much from the road (though it's not quiet) but from the open marble staircase and landings. Every high-heel and door closed from every room on every floor will sound like it is happening right next to you. Oh, and the minivan driver to and from the airport is trying for a career in Formula One. Dangerous.

Breakfast is fine, roof terrace is nice; free internet is good; safe-deposit boxes are helpful. They'll look after your luggage after you check-out. The place is clean (smoke-smell apart). But there are better places for similar money in Sultanhamet. Stay in them.

Good locotion, great value hotel

We used TripAdvisor to check out this hotel which we originally found on Expedia. We emailed the Hotel direct and by return, we were offered what we felt was a very competitive rate of 63 Euros per night for a 3 night stay for two people in a double room with breakfast, to be paid in cash. The Manager also offered us transport from the airport to the hotel for an extra 20 Euros, which we accepted gladly- this would have been free if we had been able to stay 4 nights.Everything worked perfectly and we feel these prices were a real bargain. The hotel is in an ideal location for sight seeing, is new, small but exceptionally well furnished with a degree of style, and is also spotless. The staff were very helpful and friendly at all times and the breakfast on the roof terrace was lovely. We would highly recommend this Hotel to anyone wanting a base in the Sultanhamet district. NB It is only about 3 mins walk to the Hippodrome from the Erguvan ( though it is up hill) so the hotel is a good base and close enough to return to in the day if you need a rest, but the pavements in the area are generally terrible, so watch out !

Top Local Tips for Istanbul

Airport Fare If you are taking a taxi from the airport to the city centre, it should not cost you more than 40YTL (2008) each way. Taxis are plentiful. There is no need to pre-book or pay any extra.

Tram to Dolmabahce Palace You can get to Domabahce Palace very easily by just taking the sultanhamet tram to the end of the line . It only costs one token and then you cross the street and turn left and in 7 minutes you are at the most wonderfully decorated palace in Istanbul

mrs my tip is,? can reccomend for erguvan hotel..they can put more sign for taxi driver :)
