Historical Traveller Reviews of Ceylan Intercontinental Hotel

great hotel

from McGee_7
I stayed in June 2005 for a conference. The hotel was excellent. Got a room with a beautiful Bosphorous view, the room was clean and nice, the pool is perfect and the location was very good near the Taksim section of restaurants. The service was excellent too. The only downside, for some, would be that many of the historic sites are about a 15 minute drive away. I look forward to my next stay.

Great Hotel!

from AlbertR
My girlfriend and I just returned from a 3 day weekend in Istanbul, and we spend 2 nights at the Ceylon Intercontinental, in an Executive Suite (room 615). This room was really huge, about 70 square meters at least, and very well decorated. But the key was the view... The room overlooked (through floor to ceiling windows) the Vosporos Straight, and from the 6th floor of a building built on a hilltop, the view was amazing. The staff was very helpful and courteous, and our overall experience was great. The location is fantastic, as the hotel is situated within a very quite area, a short 5 minute walk from the most central location in the city, Taksim square. It's within a 10 Lira (6 Euro) cab drive (very easy to find "taksi" around the hotel) from all the major points of interest (though mind the traffic...). Don't miss having a drink or snack at the rooftop bar, overlooking the sea, with a breathtaking view. The Safran Restaurant, located on the rooftop, is also supposed (because we did not go) to be excellent, one of the best in the city (though quite pricy). Overall, a great choice when staying in Istanbul!

Very opulent.....

from kezzaj
Hotel was beautifully opulent, staff very helpful and food wonderful. Views from the City Lights Bar were stunnung. The only disapointing thing was the price of the drinks in the bar 15 turkish lira for a bottle of Effes (approx £7.00)

A great hotel in the heart of the city

from ktee1
As a five star hotel the Ceylan can harly be faulted. the rooms were sumptuous and had everything that we needed, and more besides. It is located in a great part of the city, with everything that you would need a stones throw away. The staff were courteous and helpful but didn't go out of their way to help us.

all around good

i got a very good rate($130) for this hotel which is a decent hotel in a good location. rooms are nice and the staff is very helpful...too much in some cases. for my first two nights there i was called and questioned about my likes and dislikes of the hotel?! very bothersome. felt like a telemarketer.

beware, the prices for additional services are outrageous: $30 for scotch, $15 orange juice, cheapest wine in restaurant $25, and $25 daily charge for internet!

also, take care when walking from hotel towards taksim area. you are a target for scams(well, if you look like me: tall, white american). i was approached no less than a dozen times in the two days i was there under the auspices of someone mistaking me for a turk and wanting to buy me drinks, meet their friends, ect.

Amazing hotel with fantastic staff....nothing is too much asked

Nothing can beat this amazing 5star deluxe hotel
fabulous rooms, breathtaking views and a fantastic gym
excellent price vs value offered.

Rooms are tastfully decorated. Ask for a sea view room
Worth every penny with nice weather !

NIce, hotel, good location

from Si
A nice hotel at reasonable prices. Stayed there for a couple of days at the end of November and found the staff fairly helpful and rooms as mentioned a touch on the small size but perfectly adequate for a short stay. Bar very nice views. Didnt try the food. Watch the hotel taxi's as they tried to rip us off on the return leg to the airport at 35TRL!

not expensive, great view, small room, not friendly staff

from cm3
we just cane back from this hotel. the room rate was very good comparing to other 5 star hotels and the location was amazing if u want night activity because its next to the main shopping area and where people walk. the rooms were much smaller then what i expected and the bathrooms were clean but small too. the rooms have great views. the staff during check in/out were not friendly at all. they are all snubs and mean. i suggenst to take the tour to visit the sights because it will cost you the same if you go and buy tickets at every sight. i asked people who were staying at Hayatt and it seemed that that hotel(which is next to us) was nicer and bigger rooms.
Dont forget its cold now in Istanbul

Stay in Luxury

from KrisC73
Visiting Istanbul on a regular basis for both business and leisure, the Ceylan Intercontinantal is just that little more you expect from a 5 star hotel. Standard rooms are just a littlebit too small, however, they are decorated in a very tastefull way. For those willing and able to spend a little more, the junior suites are just like little havens - just excellent treats to stay. An absolute must is the top floor bar - the view over the Bosphorus are absolute fantastic... ask for sea view rooms, the extra charge is worth it... and don t forget to visit the spa and indoor pool to relax in style.

Good Hotel

from Clerkenwell
I stayed here for 3 nights before moving onto a more authenic hotel in Sultanahmet with some friends. The hotel ticks all the boxes of an international 5* hotel and my mother actually liked the crystal spiral staircase in the lobby. The penthouse bar/restaurant has international prices but also has a great view. The rooms are as expected and the TV has more than the usual 3 English language channels that one normally gets in a European hotel. I liked the gym but, ther is no indoor pool facility. This hotel seems to offer more competative rates than the other 5* ones around Taksim Square.

Top Local Tips for Istanbul

Ask for Bayram Cinarci For an excellent personnel tour ask the front desk for Bayram Cinarci.

ASK and Checkf you have to check and ask for everything.., prices vary everywhere...., if you buy something for expensive price they will tell you why have not asked for the prices.., you may pay for a regular beer 45 USD ....

Wonderful restaurant Have dinner at Korfez restaurant. It is a mini adventure getting there (by boat to the Asian side) but well worth it. Specializes in seafood (the sea bass in paper is wonderful). Quite a small restaurant so book before going. Ask for a table on the deck in summer or by the window in winter.
