Been there with my 2 kids,3 and 4 years old. Nice environment.Suitable for privacy living. Nice and polite staff including the cafe guys.Good advice from the manager if u want to go somewhere interesting.

Great Food in Sarnic Restaurant! We had a fantastic meal at a very unusual place called the Sarnic Restaurant which is up a steep hill next to the entrance to Gulhane Parki. It is expensive compared to other places in Istanbul but with the value of the lira falling against the pound it still worked out excellent value for money relative to anywhere in the UK! I have never experienced anything like it and can only describe it as dungeon or castle-like but it was fantastic and the food was absolutely divine! On the other hand, everyone seems to eat corn on the cob in Istanbul which I normally love but found it disgusting...luckily the bread and ice cream they sell everywhere is delicious so that took away the bad taste quickly!

Don't like haggling? You can't avoid haggling in some locations. But if you are like me and my mum and aren't particularly good at it, try her trick. Wander the shop, be noticed and polite, look mildly interested in one or two things. You may need to hone in a little more on the thing you want if you aren't getting the attention you want. If the shop assistant comes over, ask how much (perhaps on one or two items). The trick is to balance looking like you might buy it if the price is right but you aren't that keen. Maybe inspect it a little more but don't say too much - be prepared to put it down, stand back and look like you are considering it or walk away, thanking the assistant politely. Sometimes if you take a bit of time, the price will just keep coming down. This worked really well in October which is near the end of the season, it might not be so effective in the high season. Don't practise this first time on something you really want, come back to that thing a bit later. Happy shopping.
