money and transport Convert your currency once you get to Istanbul, they give you much better rates at the exchange shops in Sultanahmet. Also, use the train and tram system, it's really cheap and reliable to get around, and very easy to get to and from the airport.

Transport - NO NEED You'll notice on the map that the scaling are very small - which ultimately means that attractions are fairly near by to each other, making the need for using transport to get around totally unnecessary. Everything, literally, is within close distance of each other, there are slightly long walks in order to get to the likes of the Galata Tower from the Blue mosque for instance, but it is totally worth the walk, as it gives you the opportunity to explore shops and eateries, as well as pop in to smaller (less well known) attractions along the way. To top off such advantages further, the costs are maintained low as a result - BRILLIANT!

Key to getting around Istanbul may appear like a difficult place to get around in. Don't let the maps and street directories confuse you. Identify where you are - Identify where you want to goto - Use the efficient railed tram to get to the station closest to your destination - either walk or use the buses. I have walked from Sultanahmet to Taksim square by going to Eminonu near the shore and crossing the Galata Bridge - thats practically 1:3 the city. The best advice about the transportation and what method of transport to use to get to any destination is given at the tourist information office 20 metres from Sultanahmet railed tram station. Sultanahmet region is also the hub of public transport. Avoid business start-end hours (0800-0900) and (1600-1800) and transport should not be a problem. Remember: if you have sport shoes, it is possible to walk anywhere - it is that simple. Carry your map and you'll be fine.
