Many things to see in the Sultanhamet Take advantage of staying in the Sultanhamet. There are many hotels which are very affordable that you don't need to spend a fortune on to get a clean bed and bathroom (I would recommend the Ambassador Hotel-great breakfast to start the day off). Everything is in walking distance from there-the Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar, and much more. Give yourself at least two full and busy days to investigate this area-you will need it. Start off with the Topkapi Palace on one day and the Hagia Sofia on the second. Both of these get very busy around midday and you'll appreciate having the spaces to yourself.
When it rains.... It can rain quite a bit in Istambul in the cooler months, hence the reason why the curbs are so high! If you are not so hot on your pins, then remember the curbs can be about a foot high in places with no drop curbs so be careful. Also around Sultanahmet are a lot of cobbles which can be slippy in the wet
