Cheap and cheerful but value for money!from Middlesbrough50ish
Staff were pleasant, hotel rooms were always clean and staying half board we found the food to be excellent. My only concern was that there could have been some children only options, as some children didn't eat the many salad and hot options on an evening. There was always 2 choices of breakfast cereal and toast for them though if they didn't want the typically Turkish breakfasts.
The pool was clean and very welcome after the searing heat during the day.
We did have a problem with air-con not working but got our money back for it and did without, also mini bar not very cool. We told staff that we were not prepared to run up a bar tab after hearing some people's stories of having been overcharged and this was not a problem. A distinct lack of daytime activities but some very good evening entertainment, particularly the fire show and the latin dancers. We met some lovely friends there and the size meant it was family atmosphere. We would go back, without a doubt!!!!!
Great Complexfrom bldyscott
The villa pool is excellent as are the pools at the hotel. The villa pool and bar are run by Ata known by everyone as Mr Bean, he is fantastic and really does a great job, he will do his best to involve everyone at the pool and in particular the children.
The villas are a short walk to the hotel but you can order food at the villa pool and it is brought to the pool for you. The food is reasonably priced much the same as the local restaurants, we were self catering but would definately go half board if returning as the food was excellent. The drink was also priced much the same as the local bars.
The entertainment is up at the hotel and we did find ourselfs sitting there most night as the atmosphere up there is really good. Erol is the entertainer and really does do a great job, everyone loves him, he is great with the kids. Unfortunately we were lead to beleive there was a kids club but there wasn't. There is Tammy who does a five minute disco with the kids around 8.30 and advertises a kids club at 2.30 but this was never on in the two weeks we were there, she also finds it hard to crack a smile for the kids at any other time, not great!
Taking everything into acount this complex is great, if Ata or Erol took over the kids entertainment it would be perfect. The situation is great and the staff are fab, we had a great time and met some great friends, I would highly recommend it and advise if you are not happy with anything let them know as the owner and managers are very approachable. It was very touching that the staff and managers although all busy took the time out to see us of on the bus, really nice people.
nice enough !from wiggyman
Shops and restaurants are right next to the hotel if you dont fancy going far which is handy.
The hotel itself is nice enough, the staff were friendly & helpful and the pool which has a bar that plays commercial music is nice with plenty of sunbeds and has pet rabbits by the poolside which is cute.
We stayed B&B ( breakfast 8am-10am ) and were happy with that as we were out most of time. Food was good , toast, cereal, and a mixture of hot & cold food, tea coffee, soft drinks...i was always stuffed and got my moneys worth ;-)
Rooms are basic but clean with a tiny balcony, you have to pay extra £10 if you want air con. (Safety deposit box was £10 per week) We were happy.
"DONT" book your excursions with the hotel rep as they are overpriced, go into Hissaronu village or down to olu dinez.
Companys - carol & tayfun ( hissaronu village) or Easyriders which are everywhere were great and well priced ;-)
Excursions were great, horse riding, gorge, boat trips were all fun and worth doing. The blue Lagoon costs 3.50 lira (£1.40) entry, and sunbeds cost 9 lira each (£3.60). We loved it at the lagoon, its just heavenly with beautiful pine forrest surroundings, I swam with the resident sea turtle in the lagoon, see if you can find him too :-)
Enjoy your trip, we did ;-)
Best hotel in ovacikfrom kevinWestSussex
Waiting staff work like trojans and are very friendly but management are more interested in attracting paying diners than they are in the satisfaction of it's HB & B&B guests.
"Entertainments" staff get paid for doing nothing and we had to organise events ourselves whilst Erol constanly swore in front of children and his English wife Sonia stood around and complained that it was too hot.
Turkey is a great place to visit with a lovely climate, beautiful scenery and lots to do. Ovacik is within 5 minutes of the famous Blue Lagoon and lively Hisaronu but the Monta Verde should be relabelled the Monta Merde!
A great fortnightfrom jules261
Great Location and nice poolfrom terrilea
We found the hotel to be a bit of a mixed bag. The hotel is small and very clean. Set in beautiful flowered gardens and with the mountains all around you.
The pool was big enough for all the guests but i would say there is not enough space around the pool, the sunloungers tended to be snapped up very quickly in the early morning. We spent a couple of days by the pool and the atmosphere was good with a variety of music being played at a sensible volume from the bar next to the pool. Also there were pool games every couple of days. There is a long open hut next to the pool which is filled with cushions where you can sit to get out of the scorching heat from the sun which is a nice touch, it was also good to sit there at night time if you felt like having a little rest. A little tip, over the road a hotel has three water slides so if you're ever getting bored by the pool grab your lilo and towel then run over and have a coupla go's!
The food was just about acceptable in my opinion, as we were staying B&B i can only comment on the breakfast and the BBQ they had on our first night there. The brekkie ranged from cereal, cheese, eggs and bread....to cereal cheese, eggs and bread. The bbq cost something like 20ytl each and you were served tiny pieces of meat and could help yourself to numerous different salad/rice dishes which looked like it had been there since the night before. The hotel offered different theme nights/entertainment including belly dancing, fire show and 'romantic night'. We ate out all the time and there are plenty of very cheap restuarants bars which serve great food for excellent prices, i'd recommend the Bees Nees in hisaronu for the steak! The hotel is within 10mins walk/2min dolmus ride into the centre of hisaronu.
The staff were friendly at first, very welcoming and couldn't do enough to accommodate you. It was the owners sonia and erol we had our problems with. They operate a system which allows you to run up a bar tab and then pay it off at the end of each day. One day our bill was 75ytl, we had only been by the pool for 2 hours that day and had bought 2 soft drinks each, they had tried to add 6 or 7 alcoholic drinks onto our bill which we hadn't even drank or signed for! Even though we hadn't signed the bar reciepts they wouldn't take it off our bar bill until we argued with them for about 2 hours. Many people we met in the hotel had experienced this same problem. In the end we refused to spend another penny in the hotel, and as we got more used to the prices in the area we realised the prices in the hotel for drinks were a complete rip off anyway. It was disappointing that that had happened as it put a bit of a downer on our last couple of days as we felt uncomfortable spending any time in the hotel after that.
The rooms were small and basic, typical of most hotel rooms you will find in turkey, the maids provided fresh towels every other day and the rooms were cleaned daily to a very high standard. Each room has a small TV which has around 15 channels on, including BBC News. The only downfall with the rooms was the fact the balconys were quite small and you have to pay for air conditioning.
I'd definitely recommend this hotel to people if you want to stay B&B as it is very clean, good pool, most staff are really helpful and welcoming and it's in a beautiful location close to the resort centre but away from the noise of bars clubs etc....We would probably stay here again B&B if it wasn't for the problem we had with the owners....
I wouldn't recommend this place to people staying HB as the food is of a poor standard and very repetitive from what we heard. There are plenty of value for money restaurants nearby, you are literally spoilt for choice.
I'd recommend this hotel to a friend but i'd warn them to insist on paying cash at the bar or don't buy drinks there!
Stay at this hotel at xtra cost and xtra hasslefrom IpswichCormack
Had a great first holiday to Turkeyfrom missymoo36
The hotel itself is on Ovacik road (pronounced Ova-check) which leads directly into Hisaronu which is where you'll find a mass of bars, restaurants etc. The dolmus (bus) runs every 2 mins along this road and will take you into Hisaronu (market on Mon), the blue lagoon, Olu Deniz, Fethiye harbour (market on tues).
As for the hotel rooms they are cleaned everyday, bedding and towels change every 3rd day. Cleaners are so nice. Ken and the rest of the bar staff are good sports and are always smiling. Reception staff were helpful. Sonia and Erol who do the entertainment are brilliant especially with the kids. Sonia is english and if you have any problems she is always there to help you. Erol is always keeping the kids entertained by the poolside. The Turkish night they do is excellent with nice food. There is always something going on around the pool.
A safe for 2 weeks cost £20, and the air con was £35 (2.50per day). When you order drink or food at the bar it is put onto your room tab which I advise you to pay it off the next day as quite a few times people were complaining about their bar bills. Some of them I suspect had gone a bit overboard and couldnt remember drinking so much lol! Just get the reception to print out your bill and get a receipt for your payments.
The thing that made me laugh is that the germans are always getting mocked for putting their towels on the sunbeds in the morning, well I can tell you they do it at Monte Verde but they're all english! Drove me mad some days as people would put their towels on them but then be out most of the day, talk about selfish, also the kids dont need a sunbed as they are always in the pool. Just tell one of the staff like KEN and he'll sort you a sunbed out. Everyone around our pool was friendly which was really nice. The only other problem I had was with the music, sometimes it was too loud during the day and a couple of times in early hours I was woken by music as it echos in the hallway. Apart from getting a room with no balcony when we first arrived our first holiday in turkey was a success.
Restaurants we dined at: Swallows (lemon meringue is the best, also duck in orange & honey sauce), Woodmans (Stuffed Chicken, mixed grill is yummy) Friar Tucks which is located next to Monte Verde is brilliant, the owner Ozgur is lovely, the food is nice, loved the garlic steak, all the staff are friendly and they do a mean fry up with english tea! Sunset do a nice fry up too with tetley tea LOL! As for the kebabs you cant beat 'em. The Lemon Tree, have the lamb shank you will not be disappointed.
If you want a turkish bath, best to do it at start of holiday. Go to the Orka Hotel (beautiful hotel) and you can get one there where prices start from £10.
We changed up £50 (110 Lira) before we went, but the rest of our money we changed up as and when we needed more money. The rate wasnt fantastic but much better than uk. You'll find some of the shops (delboys) on the way to Hisaronu do a better rate (sometimes) than the exchange shops in town centre.
As for the blue lagoon beach in olu deniz it is extremely busy and we didnt like it. On the advice of friends we met we got the hotel reception to call Billys Beach which is a private beach within the lagoon and they come and collect you and bring you back to hotel for free. It's beautiful, clean, the water is calmer, great for kids, you have a small restaurant which is reasonable. For 2 sunbeds it was 10 lira which is cheap! Also there is sugar beach which will also pick you up but I think it a bit posher LOL, there's couple of other small private ones but didnt get their names, just make sure you ring around 9am as these beaches are very popular but with limited spaces.
For excursions we went with Hamish McTurk, who I was told are one of the original excursion companies with a good reputation. They were brilliant with us. Went to Pammukale (very long day), 12 Island boat tour (you stop off at around 5-6 islands, but sail round about 12) Even though we booked with Hamish McTurk they used Carole and Tayfun boats, their shop is located next to HMcTurk. Carole and TAyfun boat trips are the best people to go with as they dont have too many people on and dont play music. Heard some horror stories about other companies putting 100 peeps on 60 berth boats. Food is great. The crew, a young lady called Grace who was our barmaid, compare etc was fantastic, great bunch of people, our best trip. OH went paragliding and again booked this with Hamish McTurk and got £15 off price.
If you have an early morning flight back home and have to check out the day before your flight, check with you rep if they do the Dalyan (Turtle Beach) Transfer excursion. We booked it with our rep and it was brilliant as it would've ment sitting around our pool with cases from midday until 10.30pm. A coach picked us up at 9am, dropped us off for lunch, then we went on a trip to the mud bath and then turtle beach, and lastly dropped off to another hotel (admittedly the hotel wasnt great but I didnt care) to freshen up and eat dinner before being transferred to airport. Dalyan is also nearer to the airport.
If your looking for somewhere to rest your head then go to Monte Verde as it's in a brilliant location and great for the kids. We are going back to Turkey but will be staying 5 min walk away from Monte Verde at the Orka Hotel as we met some people who were staying there, and when we saw the rooms there they are lovely! So we've decide to be a bit posher next year. We will be popping in the Monte Verde to see Sonia, Erol, Ken and the rest of the gang on our return.
And even though we are staying at the Orka next year, the answer is 'YES' we would stay at the Monte Verde Hotel again!
Top Local Tips for Fethiye
