Top Local Tips for Canakkale

Visiting Troy Canakkale is the closest town to the ancient site of Troy. There really isn't much to see there if one compares it to other sites such as Ephesus. However, it is still interesting. Some travelers might be interested in visiting the Gelibolu battlefields where Ataturk made a name for himself at the end of World War I. (This was not Winston Churchill's best decision.) The graveyard of the English soldiers is especially moving. Both these sites as well as the ancient city of Pergamon (in Bergama) further down the coast can be visited using Canakkale as a touring base.
