Top Local Tips for Bodrum
Shops and Markets. Tour of Pamukkele Shop keepers and market traders can be very persistant that you see/buy from them. This may put off some people. Would recommend the overnight tour to Pamukkele if you are there two weeks. It is a long coach ride but well worth it.
Trip to Bodrum Use the local Bus 3 Yen Lira each way
Shopping for essentials Hit the MM MIgros supermarket for armbands, Lilos, buckets etc - far cheaper than the hotesl and surrounding shops. Also good for cheap washing powder and reasonably priced sun cream. Having a three YO chocaholic they sell Kinder Mini eggs for the equiv of 25p!!!!!

We travelled there with Thomas Cook Travel Agents. The Thomas Cook Rep was lovely, but if we needed her we had to go to another hotel called the Aegean Dream, or phone her. As we were the only Brits in the hotel, I suppost that was understandable.
We arrived on 12th June 2006 about a week after it opened.
The accommodation is excellent. Very clean, beautifully located, but not aimed at the British traveller.
The resturant staff were superb, as was the cleaning staff, but the Reception staff as lovely as they were didn't have a very good command of the english language, so any problems we had, which were quite a few, didn't get put right a lot of the time, because in my personal opinion, they didn't understand us very well.
After a walk into and around Turgutreis on my first day, I acquired a blister..... (it happens) unfortunately, it got an infection and I was in absolute agony, for about four days. I was limping around, all the staff showed concern, asked the best way they could what was wrong, but couldn't do anything. Eventually, after hobbling into Turgutreis and buying anti biotics from the chemist, it started to get better. Can you imagine, how I felt to find out sometime later they had a doctor, complete with surgery in the hotel, that could have sorted the problem out quickly, yet no one had told me about it.
There was many many small problems, it would take to long to list them, but I do reiterate they were small problems and the staff were always trying to improve, which I repect them for very much.
But the first week of my holiday was ruined.
Because it is a new hotel there was a lot of teething problems, this I understand perfectly, I just wished we had been told it was a brand new hotel, before we booked. I felt like a guinea pig, thrown it to test the waters.
Anyway, we respect to the hotel staff, during the course of the holiday, things were corrected and improved as they went along, and maybe in a year or two, it will be a first class establishment. At the moment it is still very much on a learning curve.
The Turkish people are lovely, and if you make an effort with a few pleasantries with Please and Thank you etc in their own language, they really appreciate it.
If you are brave enough to go, you will have a lovely time, but remember it will be up to you to sort out any problems.
Good luck and have a good time.
