Good - except for the moaning tourists

We had a very different experience from most reviews here. Flight, transfers, check in and rooms (two on first floor) were fine, even though checked in at 3.30am, staff there to help. Rooms basic but clean, no insects, TVs worked fine, needed to bring a top sheet as didn't want to sleep under blanket. Sockets fine - one fridge didn't work so used one in our second room. Shower ok - water only hot late afternoon due to solar power. Knew there would be no plugs so brought one (42p from Wilko). Grounds lovely (if a bit worn) and kept very clean (no thanks to litter lout tourists!) - staff very hard working and DID speak English. Very little entertainment (end of season and cool in evenings) and food was average - some nice, especially the freshly cooked pancakes, eggs, chicken and fish from the chef. Good taste of Turkish food. Avoided anything that looked like left overs recycled. Wine and beer was weak - but suited us (not watered down, just cheaper variety) to keep sober. Beautiful beach and views, easy dolmus ride to Bodrum with plenty to do there. Water slides, table tennis, pool, billiards, sauna and hammam were available in day - fitness room was in disrepair! We didn't have any illnesses or accidents - took probiotics before and during stay on advice of some medical website as proven to help with changes in food/water which frequently cause stomach upsets. Fed up of hearing people moan while we were there - would stay somewhere with less British tourists in future.

The hotel OLD NOT CLEAN.room not clean, water come in to the room not repaird smelly, food not a lot to choose from.no hot water, drinks bad, paid for transfers but had pay to get the hotel,rep used my phone now have a bill of over 100 pound?this was not a holiday, book with uk trave bad bad bad ??/ did not care. well who do. paid the price
had a bad holiday . but met some nice people stay away from this one,

Stayed at this hotel for 1 week in Oct. By far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Food was cold, repetitious and covered in flys. Room was dirty, old and tired - Water coming through bahroom light - not fixed despite numerous complaints. Avoid this hotel is the best advice I can give.

I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Etap Altinel in Bodrum, and have to say it is my worst holiday ever. I was advised when booking that this was a 4* .. This is absolute nonsense! This was not even the top end of a 2 star. There was nothing for kids to do, the rooms were smelly and dirty, the showers ( when you were able to get hot water ) leaked, the food was bad and recycled.. (You had the same for lunch and dinner most days). At least half the guests were taken ill with diarreahea and vommitting due to the water and food. Hardly any of the staff spoke English, and you wer stuck out in middle of nowhere. ** Do not go here - and don't use Goldtrail** I would not want anyone else to go through what we have just been through. It was a nightmare. I had to change my room 3 times, before I was slightly satisfied. Thank goodness I'm home.

I have just returned from one week stay at this hotel, and wanted to come home after first day.Poor food, no hot water, no amenities, nothing to do, trapped in by a motorway, 11k from Bodrum! People dropping with food poisoning, and offering each other money to take their flights home. The holiday rep was four hours taking oomplaints yesterday morning. Everbody was just glad to be coming home, Please do not go to this hotel or on a gold trail holiday.When leaving the hotel everybody knows you are from this hotel as you wear a wrist band, and you just get ripped off even more.Can I just say this is by far the worst ever hotel I have stayed in!!

OK - this is NOT a British 5 star hotel - it would be a 3 Star. There were bits and pieces that didn't quite work like the shower not being fixed properly to the wall...the food being pretty banal and the rooms being pretty basic....However, my friend and I booked this getaway late and for little dosh and really enjoyed our stay. Bodrum is a great place to be staying near to and there are plenty of restaurants there if you want to eat better. The setting and pool are great...the jetty is lovely...the staff are very polite and friendly and work very hard to make ones stay a good one. it was for us a great base to explore a bit of Turkey from, to enjoy free gin/s on the jetty of a tea time...tomake some fantastic friends and to have a great rest. Don't be put off if you fancy a non ostentacious get away within 15 mins of the airport.

Good for 3 Star Hotel and no Hot Water.

It is definitely not 5* as advertised. It is a tired old building, poorly maintained and the floors in the rooms had not been washed for months. It is not suitable for people with mobility problems. The food was O.K.( Had they been using MSG?) We complained about the lack of Hot Water in the morning but nothing happened so had to contend with it coming-on in the evening. One day there was none in the evening either. It was switched- on after our complaint. The waiters were very good though. We would not go there again.

I confess we paid almost nothing for this holiday and predictably got just that Nothing !!!!!!. If the UK Government ever wonders what would be a good alternative punishment to prison I would throughly recommend this hotel to the UK prison service. Its most likey cheaper than banging up the burglars in Wandsworth or Brixton and secondly possibly more effective. Once the offenders had experienced a week in one of their rooms I seriously doubt they would ever re-offend. For serious crimes a week of their breakfast menu should do the trick. Capital punishment could easily be replaced by having to eat three meals a day from the buffet bar. If on the other hand you pay your taxes, don't speed and help old ladies across the road, stay at another hotel and forget The Etap Turkish State Pen

my fiancee and i have just returned from the hotel please do not listen to the horror storys that have been written on these reviews... the hotel is clean and the staff are excellent especially the bar staff.. the location is definately 5 star.. however the food and room is more like 3 star.. we had a wonderfull holiday and would return. Bodrum itself is a lovely town and if you do go their you must go to la turka bar/ restaurant, lovely food and the manager is very pleasant and alot more chilled out than most of the other people in bodrum town.

DISGUSTED!!! as soon as me and my mate got to the hotel we was counting down the days till we came home.
Our room was right out of the way of the hotel in a blocked called the Anex Block, which to get to you had to walk through a dark tunnel, our room had no balcony which we paid a lot of money for, the fridge did not work and had a shocking heat coming off it, there was plenty of storage to put our clothes in but they were covered in mold and dirty inside, the bathroom was lined with dirt also and the shower didn't even have warm water and that was when it worked, we was also scarred of getting an electric shock off the plug sockets as when I pulled out a plug the whole socket came with it. We did ask to move rooms but got a room 2 doors down which was exactly the same!! I also complained about our fridge which they promised to send someone to sort out but that never happened, instead they told us we could have a free meal at the hotel but that also was a con as we was all inclusive!
Staff where very rude and un-helpful, when talking to them they looked at your body parts instead of your face! When asking for our room key they would say no we couldn't have it so they could keep us there talking, we asked to borrow some scissors and they tried to charge us just for using them, the hotel food was very repetitive every day and we lived off rice and bread for a week!
The only thing nice about the hotel was the pool but even at the end of the week I had an ear infection from something in the water!!!
I am never going back to Turkey and I wouldn't advice anyone to go there either especially stopping at this disgusting hotel! We paid alot of money for this holiday and what a waste, it shouldn't even be classed as a 5star hotel!

Top Local Tips for Bodrum

getting the bus to Bodrum Make sure you don't waste money on taxi's. The buses go and come back from Bodrum every 10 minutes. Walk out to the road and wait next to the road the buses will stop and pick you up no worries.

Barber If your a man i recommend going for a proper shave, its quite an experience!!!!

Hong Kong Restaurant, Bodrum The Hong Kong restaurant offers a free shuttle transfere to their restaurant on request (a man will hand leaflets out around the pool - speaks excellent English). Just tell him the time you want to be colllect from lobbey and he will be there in an top class air conditioned mini bus. Food is great (they even pick you up for a Full English Breakfast (and believe it, you will need a few nights eating away from the hotel- read above).
