Historical Traveller Reviews of Zurich Marriott Hotel

Marriott Zurich, good, but not worthy of any accolades.....

from JSFULHAM
We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights. It made for an excellent stay. It is centrally located close to the main station which made it easy for us to find our way to and from the hotel. For those who grumble about the pleasant walk to the station they could have taken the tram, numbers 11 0r 14 which run down the hill at the rear of the hotel. It is only 2 stops so it is hardly a hike.
The room was very clean, all the usual amenities, but the bathroom was small and dated. It was on 35th Floor and we had access to the executive lounge. The hotel is not 35 stories and it seems the hotel is trying to make more of the 1960's building it occupies by missing out floors 4 - 24 in the lifts, thus giving the impression of a sky scraper! That said, the view was most impressive.
The Executive lounge is worth the extra. A free bar all day and snacks throughout the day. The only minor gripe was the occasional presence of tiny flies, (which for October brought into question the levels of hygiene applied in the hotel.)
Our only really bad experience was in the bar. (Lounge 42 on the ground floor). Since the Exceutive lounge is non smoking we popped down for a quick smoke and a glass of champagne.
I was pestered by a prostitute, who followed me to the toilet, and a member of the bar staff was very rude to my companion. A simple request for another drink was met with a very abrupt "Yes what do you want?", while I was not at the table. We suspect she had not realised we were guests of the hotel as we had paid cash for our first round of drinks, and we wondered if she had wrongly assumed that my companion was also engaged in touting for business in the bar! Anyway it is shame if you cannot have a quiet civilised drink in this hotel and the staff certainly do not live up to the reputation that Swiss hospitality has earned for it's excellence.
Apart from these minor gripes it was a good trip, but for the money £225 a night, and the Swiss management, I had hoped to be dazzled.

Roomy Suites, great breakfast

from PandoraSLB
I stayed at the Marriott for a month in March 2005. I had a large business suite. It was quite roomy. There was a seperate bedroom, office area, and 2 bathrooms. If you book a business suite, the breakfast and internet are free. Otherwise, these would be costly add ons. The breakfast buffet was excellent. A wide array of fresh food (cold and warm) to choose from. One of the best selections I've seen. Omellettes were made to order.

As with everything in Zurich, it was pricey. The room I stayed in had a great view of the city/river/park. It was very quiet. The selection of channels on the tv was quite limited. The hotel is not on a tram stop. It was about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station. It does however have easy access to the park and taxi's are always easy to come by. Laundry service is sent out (not in the hotel for you to do yourself).

The room service menu is an exact copy of what the 3 restaraunts in the hotel offer. There was no mark up on cost between the restaurant and room service.

There is a shuttle from the airport to the hotel... he normally runs slow. The concierge can help you book or find anything. The service is friendly. The hotel is immaculately clean. My biggest gripe was the walk to get to any of the shopping, grocery, or dining... but then again I stayed for a month, so what was once a pretty sightseeing walk turned into a hassle after a few weeks.

Good location, classy!

from HMTY
We stayed here for two nights while my fiancee was on business. The location is good... only about a 10 minute walk to the center of town, restauarants, shopping, and the train station. It's a very "business" type hotel. Room was comfortable and clean! Large pool and hot tub, which is unusual for European hotels. It's a little pricy though, but I got a great deal on Priceline for almost half of the list price.

Great choice for Zurich

from dre51
The Marriott in Zurich is a good choice if you're coming or going via the airport. Like others, we stayed here the night before a departure flight to the USA. It's a safe, reliable choice. Because it was pouring rain and we decided not to walk to dinner, although it is in a pretty good location, right on the river. We were surprised that the restaurant was actually very good. They arranged for Hertz to pick up our rental car at their garage and told us we could take a shuttle the next morning. They charged us for the airport shuttle, which we didn't expect, but it was right on time and very efficient.

Nice and Centrally Located

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Zurich Marriott for one night after a long flight from the states. Although it wasn't anything special, it certainly was clean and we could walk anywhere. We stayed here for one night before picking up a rental car and driving to Italy. Like another reviewer stated, this did have more of a business atmosphere. The staff was friendly however and breakfast was good...although expensive!! We would probably stay here again for a night or two while we get over jet-lag.

Enjoyable hotel

from campbeju
My family and I stayed at the Zurich Marriott for a couple of nights this month and enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel was clean and located right off the water near the train station. The rooms were nice and clean and large enough. The staff helped us with tours, directions and local restaurants and were friendly to everyone. I would stay here again and would reccommend to others.

Excellent view, friendly helpful staff.

I stayed at the Zurich Marriott during my jet-lag for two nights upon arrival in Europe and also on my last night in Europe two weeks later. The staff was friendly and helpful, which was particularly nice because I was by travelling by myself for the first couple of days. They made a point of calling me by name and went out of their way to be helpful. The rooms were clean and welcoming, the views were magnificent, the breakfast was terrific with plenty of choices and bottomless coffee.

I walked all over the city from the Marriott easily and safely both during the day and at night. It was simple and fast to get to from the airport on public transportation.

Try to get a room that ends in 10 for the most spectacular view. Rooms ending in 08 and 09 are also wonderful views.

Typical Marriott - a business traveller hotel, lack of warmth

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Zurich Marriott for one night 3rd July - 4th July with my family. The hotel was near by the main station and large. It had a very impersonal feel to it; the room I was given (4404) was small, and the bathroom was equipped with standard Marriott tolietries - nothing special. The breakfast, whilst full of variety, was of poor standard. The only benefit of staying here is (i) price - special weekend deals or business promotions, (ii) the location and (iii) if you are attending a conference or have local buisness dealings.

If you come on a promotion, make sure the Marriott delivers as the front desk can have a tendancy to forget. All-in-all, choose a Swiss run hotel for a better experience, and try to stay by the lake. The Marriott is over-rated.

OK, but consider non-big chain locations

from minitor
We recently travelled to Italy and Switzerland (March 05) and the independent hotels appreciated our business and gave better service overall than the commercial big chain hotels. Of 5 hotel stays the Marriott in Zurich was the only one that did not provide breakfast with the room. The breakfast was very good but cost 34 EU! Another issue with the hotel is that the room we stayed in was a bit spare compared to the smaller European Hotels (Majestic Roma, Villa Cora Florence, Metropole Venice). Service and front desk staff had a 'corporate' feel. The Marriott in Roma was better than this one.
This hotel is clean, functional, quite and near the train station. If that is all you are looking for- it is a great choice. This is a business travel hotel.
If you are looking for staff that anticipates your needs, respects you as a customer and really values your business...look to a smaller local hotel. You can find a Marriott business hotel in Detroit, Chicago, New York and any other major city in the US on any business trip. While in Europe for pleasure, we are going to go the local hotel route in the future.

Best View in the city

from JazzFan
We had a great time at this hotel. The room was comfortable, the service was excellent and the location was convenient and evrything was kept very clean. Ask for a room with a view facing the train station.

The hotel could use some updating in the bath rooms and yes it was expensive but so is everything in Zurich. We would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again.
