Wonderful Hotel, fabulous staff

We spent three nights here (July 23-26) and loved the hotel. the staff was wonderful--and that glass of sparkling wine on arrival set the tone.
The room was wonderful--a bit small--but overall great. The service was outstanding. Twice daily housekeepingkept everything in our room refreshed. A wonderful elderly gentleman came in the evening with chocolates, fresh towels, newspapers and other amenities. And a great big smile. It was heaven.

The breakfast was free and incredibly good. Fresh breads, cheeses, meats, salmpn, eggs, bacon, sausages. It was all hot and fresh. And refreshed constantly.

The location is terrific--across from the rail station. We never heard a peep of noise thanks to the triple glazed windows. The tram stopped just outside our hotel and we used it extensively.

You cannot go wrong with this hotel. We absolutely loved everything about it.

I love this place.

Room 412 faced the Bahnhof and a busy street, but we never had a problem with noise -- just a lovely view and a very convenient location to this train station, the shopping districts, easy walk to Old Town, the financial district, etc.

The room and bathroom were spacious, classy and comfortable, with exellent housekeeping. The room was nicely furnished with tasteful, traditional furnishings; large roomy desk; sofa; welcome plate of fruit on the table; in-room safe, etc. Perhaps the only thing "missing" from this type of hotel is an ironing board, but that's typical of many European hotels, and there is a pants press. The comfy beds are motorized so that you can comfortably sit up in bed. We'd usually ask for the duvets to be changed to regular sheets and blankets as they are often too warm without really cranking up the AC. Not here -- they must switch to the perfect "summer" weight. There is a secure drawer in each room to recharge laptops, etc, and the wireless connections, etc. are good.

The bathroom is a spacious, luxurious delight, with a wide array of Bulgari Green Tea toiletries, lots of counter space, etc.

The breakfast buffet is excellent -- wide array of breads, pastries, meats, cheeses, fruits, juices, with good champage if you are in the mood. My husband, a longtime salmon/lox afficionado, claims that the smoked salmon here is possibly the best he'd ever had -- a reason in itself to return.

There is a charming lounge/bar ara for pastries, light lunch, drinks, tea. Even if you have a long wait at the Bahnhof, cross the street and come here for a nice experience.

The staff and concierge are excellent -- very helpful with restaurant reservations, directions, etc.

Personally, we always book in-city hotels with A/C. Zurich in June was cool enough that the temperature would have been fine, but we avoid street noise if we can keep the windows shut at night. Lack of AC eliminates our staying in many older hotels. The Schweizerhof's AC worked quietly and perfectly, easily adjustable.

Admittedly, we got a nice weekend promotion for a room that we may not have afforded during the week at the usual rack rates, but this wonderful experience will make me check this hotel first on any future trips. This place tries very hard to get everything right, and does.

A delightful haven....

Having expereinced a disastrous stay in another Zurich hotel last month returning to Zurich and staying at this hotel was a true delight. From the moment I arrived to the time of my departure I felt cossited and well cared for. Staff are very friedly and polite and welcome you by name at each opportunity. The rooms are extremely comfortable and restful and the hotel is delightfully placed close to station, shops, museums etc. I can not rate this hotel highly enough.

Wonderful Hotel

I loved this hotel. I travel all around the world and this hotel is great. Fabulous location - literally across from the train station. but right in the main shopping area. My luggage from the US did not arrive with my flight - and the concierge tracked it down for me without my asking. Rooms are comfortable and pretty spacious. Breakfast is nice - many choices. Would absolutely stay here again.

This hotel couldn't have been better! We arrived on 31 December and even with short notice, they were able to book us a table for 6 (including 2 small children) for a New Year's Eve dinner! The staff was so accommodating! We were pretty tired from our journey, so the fact that the hotel was right across from the train station was very convenient. I was worried about the noise, but didn't hear a thing (other than the incredible display of holiday fireworks that you could enjoy from the window). It was within walking distance to the shopping as well. Highly recommend!! Beware: Hotels.com really screwed this reservation up. Have had nothing but problems with this company!

A superb choice

I stayed only one night in Schweitzerhof, but I still could get an overall impression of the town of Zurich due to the perfect location of this hotel. As a female person travelling alone, I didn´t have to worry about any safety issues. The surroundings of the hotel are very safe. The single room was perfect: with a motorized bed and LCD tv. The Hauptbahnhof (train station) is just close to the hotel. Even though I found out at the station that I forgot the hotel key to my pocket, I could easily bring it back to the hotel. But they also told me at the hotel, I could have left it to any postbox in Schwitzerland - and they will post it to the relevant hotel. The service was perfect - as well as the breakfast. And what is the most important, this all was done with very reasonable cost compared to typical Finnish hotel deals. I really spent a lot time in seaching for a nice hotel in Zurich - and it was worth doing!

Does it get any better? If you like grand old hotels then stay at The Hotel Schweizerhof. Great rooms, great location, and a wonderful staff. We booked direct and got as good of a deal as any website and probably preferential treatment (I.E. a room with a view instead of the back alley). Breakfast was amazing and was overseen by one of the nicest people we've met travelling. I don't know his name but he speaks 6 languages and works the room like a politician. Our room was on the 3rd floor above the the Bahnofstrasse and yet we could barely hear the trams going by. Triple glazed windows provide an oasis of comfort in the busiest part of town. The room was small but comfortable and the details....oh the details. Fresh fruit, water and a real orchid sat on a table under the window providing a picture of thoughtfullness we have rarely encountered travelling. Though we arrived by car, the train station is right across the street so if you are looking for 5 stars but want the ultimate in convenience, this is your hotel. There may be even grander hotels in Zurich but I seriously doubt you will enjoy any of them as much as The Schweizerhof and you'll save money at the same time.

Excellent service - fantastic hotel

After a terrible experience at a IPR guesthouse who cancelled our booking that we had paid for with no explanation, we walked into Schweizerhof Hotel off the street and were extremelly lucky - the staff were amazing and did everything they could for us. They were having a promotion and so were able to give us the most amazing room at a discounted price and even champagne to cheer us up.
The bed was probably the most comfortable I've ever slept on in my life!
Breakfast (including more champagne) was lovely, the whole hotel was lovely and the staff were even more lovely - I have never come across more helpful and friendly staff in a hotel.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and I can't wait to go back.
The location is fabulous too - right across from the station, though it's not noisy at all as the windows are triple glazed.

What a great experience! I only stayed for one night, wish it could be longer. I was by myself on business. First of all the location cannot be beat. Right across from the main train station, walk in and greeted very pleasantly - offered a drink. I asked for an upgrade and got a queen-room. My room was lovely - small, but so beautiful and charming. The furnishing is very nice, large windows but quiet, modern bathroom and a LCD TV. Internet costs 6 CHF per hour , which bugs me a little but it is still rare to find free internet access in Switzerland.

And wow - a heated towel rack in the bathroom!

I went shopping - the famous banhofstrasse is right outside the door and upon my return a lovely fresh fruit basket was in my room. Nice touch!

The next morning a champagne breakfast buffet was included - delicious! Breads, cheeses, hot food, fish, etc etc, Just great!

Finally it was time to check out and I received a little parting gift of chocolate.

Like I said I can't think of anything negative - it was a great hotel and even the price was right - 200 CHF. Quite reasonable considering all the positives.

If you like a charming hotel with outstanding location and service, stay here!

Top Local Tips for Zurich

Use the train The train station is right in the middle of the town. It's convenient and easy to get to and from the airport. And, it was convenient to go to and from Geneva for a few days. The train station is easy to navigate. The airport can be a bit tricker--make sure you know what check-in area handles your airline or you'll wander all over. The Zurich airport is huge and has a shopping mall and food court inside.

Where to stay Tray an investigate hotels in towns just outside of Zurich. many of the towns just outside of Zurich have excellent accommodation's for 1/2 to 1/3 the price and excellent train service into the main Zurich Station

Easiest way to and from the airport... Take the local train that runs between the airport and the main train station (known as the HB). It's inexpensive, quick (only about 10 minutes) and takes you direct from the airport to the central part of Zurich. Only qualification is if you're traveling with a number of bags, then you'll probably be more comfortable taking a taxi.
