Loved the Adler
from sunflower7777Adler - great!
from dassieHave already recommended the Adler to family and friends, and will return there when next I'm in Zurich.
However, the directions to the hotel were not as clear or precise as they could have been. We were told 500 metres from the Station, a 10 minute walk. Walk if you must. But if you have heavy baggage take a taxi. I'm sure it's more than 500 metres, there are a few busy roads to cross and cobbled streets are not great for suitcase dragging.
Shuttle bus to the airport a bargain. Cheaper, and easier, than the taxi plus train alternative.
A great find
from Belmont94002I found the Adler to meet all of the requirements and more. The staff was very professional. The rooms had internett access for an extra charge. The hotel has a free internet computer in the upstairs lobby. The rooms were quiet. The location is central to the old city and close to the train station. The rooms were clean. Breakfast was very nice. The price was a bargain. The evening restaurant is lively and satisfying.
I would love to stay at the Adler again. I wish I could find a hotel like this where ever I travel. If I did, I would beat my budget and be happy for the experience.
Loved it. Great for leisure and business travel
from RetroKPros: Location, Location, Location. Smack in the middle of cafes, restaurants, shops, bookstores. Cobblestone streets, no cars allowed. Great rooms. Very clean, modern, comfy beds, murals of local landscape, wireless internet access (5US$ for 30 mins), free internet PC in lounge, nice bathroom with good water pressure, nice restaurant, complimentary breakfast (much better than expected, and serves awesome Swiss coffee), reasonable priced, very nice staff. Shuttle to Zurich airport costs 25CHF for two.
We had a room facing the courtyard, so it was quiet. We could hear some people partying outside one night, but it was not very loud.
We will stay here again.
Great value in an expensive city
from A TripAdvisor MemberI travel extensively on business in North America and Europe. Having stayed there for three nights, January 30-February 2, 2005, I can say that the Adler is one of the best values I have come across anywhere. I didn't see any tradeoffs for the great price.
location
Because Zurich is so compact, one can walk everywhere. The Adler is right across the tiny Limmat River from the commercial office district and a five minute walk from the train station (Hauptbahnhof). The Adler vicinity is actually more cafe and pedestrian oriented than the other side of the river, where most of the expensive shops line the Bahnhofstrasse.
facilities
The rooms are very comfortable, impeccably clean and modern. Even the smallest rooms have a good desk, well-appointed bathroom and a safe, which as a runner I really appreciate. There is a lounge on the first floor with comfortable couch and free internet terminal. I did not eat in the restaurant, but it has received good reviews elsewhere.
other
The staff is friendly and helpful. Other reviewers have commented on street noise. I heard none even though my room faced onto the square. This may have been because I was there outside the summer tourist season.
The breakfast merits special mention: cereal, yogurt, a variety of juices, breads fruits and cheeses. They even had the International Herald Tribune.
I will definitely return to the Adler and recommend it to anyone.
Great Location
from Terri EggemanThe Adler offered a nice breakfast which is a real plus since everything in the city is so expensive. We also had dinner at the resturant one night and the food was excellent. I recommend the veal Zurich style with the rosti potatos. Service in the resturant was very good and the staff at the desk was very helpful. I would stay at the Adler again if in Zurich.
Nice place and price!
from A TripAdvisor MemberBest experience in a 2 week trip
from LAgirl_in_LondonModern, central, and reasonable rates
from jkerouac110Friendly hotel, great location, free internet
from babygoonWe arrived early morning and did not expect our hotel room to be ready but when we arrived they asked if we wanted a smoking or non-smoking floor (which we were pleasantly surprised about) and said they would have a room prepared soon. They invited us to sit in the restaurant and have coffee (no charge). Our room was ready by around 9 a.m. so we were able to check in, unpack and have the rest of the day free for sightseeing.
We were given room 315, a small double facing the back courtyard. Nice room with minibar fridge, small safe, bright spotless bathroom with tub/shower combo. Breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant was a nice selection of breads, cheeses, fruit, yogurt and probably the best coffee we had on this trip.
One of the nice perks of this hotel was a computer in the first floor sitting room with free internet. On the downside, this area of town is noisy due to all the clubs and restaurants nearby. A live band set up in the courtyard restaurant below our room and the music was very loud until after midnight. However, the windows are pretty well soundproofed so by closing the window we could seal out much of the noise. We were there on a Friday night so I do not know if the party atmosphere takes place on weekday evenings
Top Local Tips for Zurich
Art buffs going to Zurich: Don't miss Wintertür's world class art musem I was blown away by the world-class art at this museum in a sleepy little town about an hour's train ride from Zurich. The Expressionists rank highly, and a Kirchner exhibit was on when I first went. At times I was the only person in a room, save for the random guards. I look forward to going back and spending another enjoyable afternoon among "friends."
Zurich Card Zurich offers a tourist card to visitors which, as well as including access to transport services of Zurich Public Transport in the greater Zurich area, offers free admission to over 40 museums. In addition, you'll receive reduced admission to the Zoo Zurich, a complimentary welcome drink in over 20 restaurants, plus a number of other discounts. The card is valid for 24 or 72 hours (approximately 15 - 30 CHF) and is available from tourist services inside Zurich Hauptbanhof and from many hotels.
Rhine Falls I recommend vising Rhine Falls, its only an hour from Zurich and worth the visit.
