Taxis Zermatt is very spread out the use of the taxis relieves the hassle and eases tired limbs

Great food and service except... Eating in Zermatt is great in quality and service. On the whole the food is great and the service great. The sole acception in our travels was the outdoor cafe/restaurant at the Hotel Walliserhof. If the service we received was any indication of their hotel, I would be very hesitant to stay at this hotel. Don't say I did't warn you.

It's cold in July! We were in Zermatt the first week in July and it was quite chilly. Fortunately I packed leather gloves for all of us - we needed them. We were on a 2 week trip (Paris, Zermatt & Rome) with two teenage girls. For the entire trip we each carried one suitcase & a backpack, so we packed carefully. I wore jeans or corduroy pants every day in Zermatt, an underarmour shirt, a cashmere sweater & then a waterproof windjacket , baseball cap and gloves. At the top of the mountain it was really cold & snowing (and yes, people were skiing). When we would get back down to the town, especially when we hiked, we would peel off layers & sometimes even wear short sleeves:-). People there dress in hiking clothes & sporting/outdoor wear most of the time.
