Although just across from the railway station there was no problem with noise and it was most convenient for getting out and about. Our room was well appointed and had been recently refurbished. On the third floor, it had a pleasant balcony with sun awning, which was essential as the room got the sun most of the day. We were half board and found the catering chaotic with very long waits (1 hour +) for service. The young staff were most pleasant but let down by lack of direction. The food was certainly not up to the standard of our hotel the previous week in Kandersteg. Complaints to the duty manager just produced "It's not my fault" or total inaction. We eventually decided to eat in the public restaurant and found it totally different, better food, swifter service and, needless to say, more expensive. I only hope that this was an early season blip as the hotel is comfortable, well sited, well equipped and clean.

Top Local Tips for Wengen

ageism Unlike other top Swiss resorts like Zermatt, Wengen appears to attract many of the ski set from the 1930's who appear to have been there since inception. Whilst this is a wonderful piece of primary source history, the resort is somewhat lifeless. The downhill course on the Lauberhorn denies the above, but such contradictions exhist throughout life!

Best Walk Take the cable car to Mannilechen ((2 mins. from hotel), take the Panoramic walk, about 90 minutes, round the side of mountains (almost all level), with the most incredible views all the way.

Travel To and In Wengen The train station is central to most hotels, so even if your hotel offers to pick up your baggage, just roll it yourself and avoid the embarrassment. You can stroll from one end of Wengen to the other in 15 or 20 minutes, so don't think about a taxi (unless maybe you're renting a chalet). Wengen is a car-free town except for a very few electric cars, but you will never need a car, so don't worry about being stuck.
