Public transportation in Switzerland I would not rent a car in Switzerland any more. It's not necessary and the high gasoline prices make it rather expensive. Public transportation is top notch all over the country. Trains go everywhere, are extremely punctual and utterly clean. There is also a postal coach service (yellow buses) which take you to every village where there is a post office. All cities have outstanding public transportation with tramways and buses at low cost. Ask for special season tickets when arriving a Zurich or Geneva international airports. Some of the Swiss mountain roads are very narrow. Sit back in a train instead of having the stress of negotiating steep and narrow roads - provided you are not used to this kind of thing.
