Swiss public transport is a joy and a miracle of engineering Swiss railways and buses, cable cars etc, are fantastic. They run to the second, are clean, warm and comfortable. The different transport modes all connect well meaning little or no waiting for connections. Look at the website for swiss travel system for full details. The Swiss pass gives unlimited travel on nearly all the public transport in the country. If you are from the USA you will be amazed at the quality and value for money. If you are from the UK the efiiciency of public transport in Switzerland will seem like a miracle, and you will weep on your return to the UK. I am a bit scared of heights, but I felt really safe on Swiss cable cars. The Swiss Public transportation network is truly a wonder of the modern world.

Train Pass Without a doubt, get a Swiss Rail Saver Pass. This will give you free travel on almost all trains, boats, gondolas except for higher elevations. On those you get 25-50% off the price and if you get a family pass (free), children under 26 travel for free! Weather varied from cool and rainy to sunny and quite warm. Be preaperd for changes in the mountains. An umbrella or rain poncho were a big help.

Lunch at the Schilthorn We arrived in Murren just after a period of cloudiness. There was a bit of leftover morning fog & cloudiness, so we weren't sure if a trip to the Schilthorn would be worth the cost of the gondola ride. There is a live television feed that allows you to see the current views from the top of the Schilthorn & the Jungfrau, which helped us make our decision to go. We're so glad we didn't pass it up. The midday sun created beautiful views. In the restaurant, we had our choice of window seats (which may differ in high season). We had a leisurely 2 hour lunch- we enjoyed relaxing & enjoying the amazing views. The restaurant revolved approximately 3 times during our lunch. I had a glass of red wine & Goulash soup which was hearty & delicious. My husband had a nice-sized local beer and sausage with fries. Then we each had a a scoop of ice cream, and I had a cup of tea. It cost about 60 Euros. We also enjoyed time on the outdoor observation deck & the 20 minute James Bond movie.
