Excellent hotel positioned in lakeside. Staff very friendly and helpful, particularly Irish guest relations lady whose name escapes me! Took a rail inclusive holiday with Royal Plaza Holidays guided by Yvonee.

excellent hotel and location, very friendly staff

This was our fifth stay at the hotel. Each time we get a fabulous junior suite with a large terrace overlooking beautiful Lake Geneva. The rooms are very spacious and renovated. The staff is always gracious and the breakfast buffet very nice. We look forward to going back again.

Nice hotel especially if you get a lake front room

I stayed here in July just after the Montreux jazz festival for business. I asked for a room facing the lake, which I got. Definitly rooms facing this side are better than the road side (which I had last year when I was here). if you get the lake front, you get a nice balcony and a great view of the lake and over to France. if you are on the road it can be a little noisy, and defintly not an interesting view!

Rooms are neat and clean and bed was very comfortable with nice pillows, and really nice soft towels in the bathroom.

Restaurant food was also nice.

Hotel is about a 10 minute walk (downhill) from the station, and right on the lake front.

Staff were friendly.

Only downside, was that it was after the jazz festival, so there was scaffolding everywhere, of which some blocked an otherwise excellent view of the lake!

Great hotel

This is a hotel I have stayed at regularly for years, perfect for a weekend break whilst traveling for business in Europe. I would recommend the junior suites, with balconies, that face the lake offering an uninterrupted view of the French and Swiss alps.

Hotel could use some renovations especially in the bathrooms.

Several good restaurants in the hotel, excellent for walks along the lake, 5 minutes from the SBB Rail Station and 5 minutes from the Lake Geneva boat terminal.

Watch out for the various music festivals as they impact, negatively, the peace and tranquility that normal exists in Montreux including the week before and after the events.

Great Location but Small Rooms

We had a 6 night stay here over Christmas, in the main the hotel lived up to our expections but the room for a 5 star hotel was very small and so was the bathroom. The food was first class and the buffets in particular were very good. We were told that the views from the lakeside rooms were stunning but unfortunately the fog followed us over from London. Public transport both bus and train were very easy to use and convenient to the hotel. Staff in the main helpful and efficient. All in all I would recommend this hotel although I thought that it was a bit mean for a 5 star hotel to charge 5 francs for a bottle of water which we thought was complimentary until we read the very small print

Nice hotel with a beautiful view

The hotel was generally really nice - the staff were friendly and helpful ad the rooms were good although slightly smaller than I expected for a deluxe suite. The balcony was lovely and the views of the lake were just stunning.

My only two slight issues with the hotel were the pool was very cold for a heated pool and the hotel is a bit sneaky. For example a water bottle left on your shelf invites you to enjoy it but then warns you will be charged if you do so! For a five star hotel that charges quite a bit I thought that was a bit cheap!

Overall though nice hotel but if you stay pay for the lake view it is just beautiful.

Great after 5 room changes

We won't dwell on the negative too much but please if you are booking this hotel, book a lake view. Room 520 is fantastic. The terrace/lake views are just stunning. The room was clean, tidy and well equipped.

The hotel apparently was full before we arrived and they offered non smoking rooms to smokers. Rooms smelt of smoke and for non smokers it was noticeable. The Duty Manager was an absolute disgrace with an appalling attitude and I hope no one else visiting the hotel has to go through what we did.

After these problems, we didn't bother to use any of the hotel restaurants. We would stay there again but ony if we were guaranteed that standard of room.

Please please visit the Palais Oriental restaurant about 10 mins walk from the hotel. Absolutely fantastic.

We definitely will visit Montreux again.

My stay there was during August and Sept. 2006. I enjoyed every single day of staying at that hotel and NO COMPLAINTS.

The staff was friendly and helpfull

The room was clean, spacious yet adequately furnished and maintained

The view was perfect(I booked the lake-view room 2 months before my arrival)

The location is excellant

The food was good

Mmmm..I coulnt wish for more

Lakefront with stunning views

I've stayed several times in this hotel, usually for customer events during the Jazz Festival. It's one of the few hotels in Montreux (has the Palace beaten on this count) that is located directly on the lakefront walk, no busy street between you and the water. The first thing that strikes you in this hotel is the lobby. On the one hand, it has some elements that whisk you unwillingly back to the 1980's, like the mirrory ceiling... but what an incredible view out onto the lake and mountains! Unforgettable. The hotel has been renovated since 2003, and the rooms with lakeview are terrific. Staying on the "mountain side" (i.e., overlooking a busy street and some uninteresting buildings) is pointless... stay somewhere much cheaper in town for an identical experience. I have found the staff consistently superb... friendly yet Swiss-discreet, and thoroughly professional. The meeting facilities are good, but during the Jazz Festival be ready to tolerate the beer scent hanging in the air from the nightclub they run for the occasion. The restaurants are very good, and it's a genuine pleasure to eat under the sun on their terraces just next to the lake.

5* holiday in a 5* hotel

We spent a week in this hotel in July 2005. The views over Lake Geneva were quite stunning!! The choice at breakfast time was absolutely overwhelming and the eveing meals, served in the Belvedere Restaurant were equally as good. The service by staff was second to none and we cannot fault the hotel. We will definitely return.

I was stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in mid January for a conference.

This hotel is right on Lake Geneva and you get the most amazing views of the lake and the mountains. But make sure when you book and check in that you get one of the rooms facing the lake - or you may find yourself in a room overlooking the road at the back. I have posted photos of how lovely the lake and mountains look in winter.

The hotel has a high star rating (5 stars) but I am not sure why. It is a perfectly good hotel - for business and the conference I was at. The rooms are small but comfortable and well equipped for the traveller who is not going to spend much time in the room - and has large desk to work at. Bathroom is pleasant but small. The hotel has wireless broadband but it is costly. The place is not that soundproof as you could hear all the noise as people came and went from their rooms. The rooms were very hot from the winter heating.

The food in the hotel is good and reliable with lots of salads - but not stunning. I feel the hotel is more four star.

Personally, it is not a hotel I would like to stay at for pleasure but for work it was brilliant.

Top Local Tips for Montreux

Trains discount Get a multi-day travel pass for the trains to make some big savings. Exploring the region by train is a great experience in itself, due to the stunning views - ask at the train station in Montreux, the staff are incredibly helpful.

Riviera card This card was given to me by a hotel for the whole duration of my stay. Really a value as you can use the bus for free and get 50% discounts to most of the local museums, like Chatau de Chillion, which is a must to visit if you are in Montreux

Lived in Montreux I very briefly lived in Montreux years ago and the city has changed as all cities do. However, it you want a nice relaxing holiday, I would recommend Vevey over Montreux.
