Top Local Tips for Lugano
where to eat We went to the Restaurant at the Congress Center, which is 300 meters away from Hotel Walter. The restaurant has a nice view at the City Park. Food and service were very good. I ate sweet water fish and my friends ate salt-water fish and both were very fresh and very tasty. I also liked the dessert buffet, with superb choice of italian and international specialties, such as tiramisu, mousse au chocolat, fresh fruits, home made cakes etc. They have an excellent wine card as well. Prices were very fair for waht we got. (apox. 14 Francs for main dish). It is open for lunch and dinner.
Realy good fresh chocolate Don’t forget to bye some gourmet chocolate at MERCUR at the pedestrian area behind the Hotel, prepared fresh every day in many delicious tastes and combinations. Try the one with cranberries!!!
Swiss Pass From our point of view a Swiss Pass is great as it can be used on the lake boats, funicular up to and down from Lugano station to the center and the Lugano buses, saves an awful lot of leg work. We also used ours on the funicular up Monte Bre, although I am not sure if it can be used on funicular up San Salvatore. And of course a Swiss Pass can be used across Switzerland with up to 50% discounts on most private lines and cable cars etc.
