The hotel is great, its location is superb - 30 seconds walk from the Wooden Flowered bridge an all the attractions. The hotel itself is pleasant. The rooms are well equipped , price is fair and breakfast is more than enough. A small tip, parking is free on weekends so you can park your car for free near the hotel. Enjoy your vacations.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Ameron Hotel Flora

Very reasonable and convenient but beware of thieves

from travelWKids
We stayed at hotel Flora for a night with 2 toddlers even after reading some bad reviews about the hotel. It was a pleasant experience. The hotel is situated very close the train station and an old town. They provided an extra bed and a baby cot at no charge for our kids. Room was clean and of reasonable size. The hotel staff was helpful and friendly. The breakfast was good. The flip side is bad elements were wondering around in hotel lobby. My wife saved a purse of an old lady who left the purse on the couch and went to the rest room. Couple of thieves sitting in lobby area tried to steal it but my wife had seen the purse in old lady's hand and she told them that lady was with her. These guys left the purse there and ran away. There are many tourist groups staying at this hotel and some of them must become easy target of thieves. Be extremely careful with your belongings and hotel would work just fine for you.

Absolutely Wonderful!!!

Despite all the bad review we read about this hotel, my husband and I stayed at this hotel since everything else in Lucerne seemed to be way out of our budget. We crossed our finger and hoped for the best. As we reached Lucerne and walked up to the hotel - I thought there was a mistake. Could this modern, clean, glass doors, well uniformed security gaurd at the door, very welcoming reception be the same Hotel Flora we booked at? I was expecting a hole in the wall, small privately owned, dirty hotel after reading all the review.

So you walk in - there is a huge reception desk with very friendly, english speaking hotel staff who assist you in any way possible. To the far right is the restaurant/bar. The nights we were there, there was actually a beach party in the adjacent building which was amazing. Hotel Guests get in free. In the lobby there is a piano, huge seating area, and to the left are the elevators. I don't know exactly what previous posters meant by - stinky, smelly hotel and that they stayed on the top level - the 8th floor. They must be mistaken with some other hotel - because we were at the top level which was the 6th floor. The elevator and hallways were very clean - absolutely no sign of smoke (as someone mentioned). The room was VERY spacious. The bathroom was very clean. They provide all bathroom amenties, as well as a bathrobe and room slippers. The beds were very comfortable and clean. We don't have a single negative thing to say about this hotel.

We are in our late 20's and have travelled in many parts of Europe and therefore have experience with various European Hotels. We have stayed in everything from the worst to the best. This is definitely more than adequate for a stay in Lucerne. You are close to the covered bridge. It is by no means a resort or 5 star hotel - but it is definitely up to the 4 stars. If you are looking for a very clean, safe, comfortable place to sleep since you will be out siteseeing most of the day anyway - this is defintely the place to go for. Clean hotel, very close to train station

from nirajk
Despite the bad reviews about this hotel, my wife and i decided to stay there, because it was reasonably priced and VERY close to the train station.

We could not have been been happier with this decision, this was a great hotel in Europe, it had all the amenties you would need, a big room, very nice sized bathroom, clean bed, the only bugs in the bed were the Swiss Chocolate lady bugs that were left on our pillows as we checked into the room.

I do not have a negative comment about this place, it was a nice clean hotel in a nice clean city, the breakfast was an average standard European breakfast, nothing too great nothing too bad about it. Would definately stay there again if in Luzern.

What a disgrace!

My husband and I stayed here during March 2005 and was disgusted with this hotel! Our room was on the 8th floor and the interior of the hallway and passage was laughable. It consisted of an old broken cupboard and two very! very! old wooden chairs. The carpets were filthy dirty. I injured my knee during an excursion and went back to the hotel. As our dinner was included in our stay for that spesific night my husband asked the front desk if they could sent it to my room and explained the situation to which he only replied: No, sorry, but he could ask the kitchen to send me a sandwich and a cup of tea but we will have to pay for it. The next morning our breakfast were not served in the diningroom but in a seperate litlle room. The tablecloths were dirty and so sticky that we refused to eat there. (We were booked for continental only). They would not let us eat elsewhere. There were milk lying on the floor. There wer no saucers or teaspoons. We had to search for sombody to bring us some rolls and cold meats. To much to mention! Don't let them do your laundry! Euros 87.00 for 2 shirts a pair of jeans a blouse and 2 pares of pajamas!
Do not stay there! You will be so disappointed if you do! Lucerne is such a beautifull place. Don't spoil it.

Adequate

from A TripAdvisor Member
Very close to train station so good for train travelers. Rooms are aqequate in size and clean appearing. We got lots of bug bites in room - not mosquitos and complained with no response. Restaurant OK for quick meals. Lucerne is a wonderful city, but this hotel is just adequate - especially for the cost.

just next to rail station

Very commercial hotel. If you want to stay at the heart of lucerne...hotel flora is the place to be...The corridors smell of tobacco... basic facilities lack kettle, ironing board....still a good place to stay

It is OK but expensive

from A TripAdvisor Member
It was all that it promised. But expensive compared to US standards and very, very expensive compared to Indian standards.
The Hotel was within five minutes walking distance from the Lucerne Rail station and Bus Station. The famous Capelbrucke (Chapel Bridge) was even closer, just 3 minutes on foot.
The breakfast that goes with the room was good and substantial. The place was clean and the staff friendly.
Switzerland is a lovely place.

I agree with the previous reviews. My husband & I stayed there because it was rated as 4-star hotel. The only positive point to this hotel is that it is close to the train station. Our room & bathroom seemed more of motel stay. And there was smoke everywhere.......will definitely not stay there again!!! I felt sorry for the tour groups that were staying there!

Disappointing

from gymfan76
I agree with the previous review. The hotel is close to the train station but otherwise it’s a mediocre hotel. It’s hard to believe it has a 4 star rating. Some 3 star hotels I’ve stayed at were far superior. The toiletries were skimpy and the hotel was crowded with tour groups. The rooms were tiny and the smoke smell was unbearable, even by Europe standards. We could still smell smoke seeping into our “non-smoking” room. The hotel lobby was so smoke-filled that I wished I had a gas mask.

The worst part of our stay was getting my expensive digital camera stolen at the hotel restaurant, just after checking in for the evening. We were tired and I let my guard down by hanging my bag (with the camera inside) on my chair before 2 suspicious looking men sat at the table behind us. They didn’t end up ordering anything but took the camera from right under our noses (at least they left the bag). The restaurant and hotel personnel were sorry but didn’t seem too surprised or overly concerned. The hotel front desk personnel could only suggest filing a police report which I did (at the police station a few blocks away), more as a formality since it was very unlikely they would ever find the thieves. When I talked to the hotel restaurant manager (a couple of days later), he had the nerve to just point to the signs on the walls which warned of pick-pocketers. It’s funny how I didn’t remember seeing the signs on the night we were there and the waitress didn’t warn us. In fact, looking back, it was surprising that the waitress even allowed those thieves to sit at the table behind us for over 20 minutes without even ordering anything before they left. We couldn’t even use the restrooms in some Swiss restaurants without being rudely asked to pay 5 swiss francs. They put signs warning of pick-pocketers, yet allow them to loiter in the hotel restaurant to prey on tired tourists. They kept the door to the street wide open (easy access for the thieves & flies) and seat them right behind us even though the restaurant was essentially empty. When we went back to the restaurant about 10 minutes after we left (when I realized my camera was stolen), the table behind us was noticeably much farther away from our table! Live and learn. Never let your guard down or hang your bag on the chair or eat at the hotel restaurant.

To add insult to injury, the food was expensive with plenty of annoying flies flying around (since the door to the street was wide open). I asked to simplify one dish for a child (just pasta with plain sauce instead of the regular pasta dish with spicy sauce and chicken) and they still charged the same price as the regular pasta dish, which was almost 20 swiss francs!

Simply disappointing

I stayed in Hotel Flora in May 2004. It has a very convenient location, just 2 minutes away from the station and a minute from the Chapel Bridge. That is where its charm ends. It is a hotel which is not touristy at all. The rooms are tiny, staffs are at best lukewarm and the breakfast is lousy. Being in the middle of a road, there are no worthwhile views. It was difficult to get any excusion ideas from staffs either. Honestly, it really doesnot do justice to its room rent or its 4 star rating. I would strongly advise tourists not to go for this hotel.

Top Local Tips for Lucerne

History Museum Don't bother visiting it: the worst displays of ANY museum seen anywhere!

Go to.... Mt Pilatus and take the highest cable car to the top. Take pictures and also take a snooze on the many beach chaises on the obervatory deck.

Alpine view You have to go up Mt. Pilatus if you stay in Lucerne. It is a 7000 m mountain that offers amazing views of the land. You can go up by cable car or train.
