The hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was plain but plentiful. The owner, Urs, went out of his way to talk to everyone in the bar / resturant at night and was always ready for a chat if he saw you. We had a lovely time in Langnau and would definitely use this family run hotel again.
No great welcome at the Inn!

Hotel Hirschen or perhaps more accurately Guest House Hirschen has 18 bedrooms and the cost has recently been increased to 170 Swiss franks per night for a double room (I paid slightly less). The hotel is not quiet from 7.00AM onward as traffic noise really builds up when locals set off for work. My wife and I could not sleep beyond 7.00AM due to the traffic noise. Rooms are clean and spacious with traditional Swiss decour (slightly sombre) and corridors are rather dark. The toilet ventillator was not fuctioning in our en suite room on arrival and I had to report this on four separate occasions before a workman was called in to effect a temporary repair which left bare wires showing - a replacement ventillator cover was never fitted during my stay. The bare wires (although out of normal reach) would have contravened a health and safety check. Although I travelled all the way from England, neither the host nor his wife troubled themselves to make themselves known at any stage throughout my one week stay. Breakfast was repetitious with little or no fresh fruit and no meat - only bread, cereals, cheese and jam. The staff were very helpful and spoke adequate English. Langnau is not an exciting town but it served as a base for our explorations into the Emmental.
